If WWDC passes by without an upgrade, I don't know how I will handle myself.

If they don't deliver the goods, I hope I don't end up getting graped.

Couldn't agree more. The MacBook keyboard is awful.

Hm. I actually love the keyboard and typing on my partners 13 inch rMBP seems mushy, squishy and a bit archaic. I can type just as comfortably/quickly on this as any keyboard, and I much prefer it to the rMBP keyboards. You guys are cutting it up so bad without using it for an extended period of time. Once I got used to it, the other keyboards feel like garbage. Could it use more depth? Mmm, personally I don't mind the way it is now, but wouldn't be appalled by a bit more depth.

The only issue I have with it is the lack of optimization of some third party providersthat triggers this lovely message in the top right corner.

That's funny, I don't mind the MacBook keyboard, but you know that's so subjective. I think we will get some version of it.. I use the new magic keyboard at work and it's been a nice upgrade over the previous.

I just wish they had more of a click to them instead of so small of a break that I can't tell if I pressed it or not.

This is me typing on a regular mac keyboard

hs is me pin on a mcbok keoad

I need help with that small footprint

I don't miss any letters on my Mac keyboard anymore than I would with the rMBP keyboard. In fact, it feels snappier to me too. No matter where you type on the key, it all presses down (relatively) uniformly, so even if you strike a key on the corner of it, it will register the key.

I have typed essays on the keyboard before with no issues either. I take notes on it and my iPad Pro (and its keyboard is... I don't like it as much as the 12-inch). Preference!

So true, that first statement! In the tech world, although the newest, flashiest product seems the best, it's not always that way. Just hope that isnt the case for the new Skylake rMBP.

Which is why I got I on a contract with an upgrade after the 1st year It is a niche product for productivity [for me it is perfect] but I can see that it would be a waste of money for others/

Couldn't agree more. I really like the keyboard and is far nicer for me than the current pro keyboard

I just noticed mine saying the same thing! Looks like it skipped "Replace Soon" and "Replace Now" and just went straight to "Service Battery". My early 2011 MBP is almost at 900 cycles, and I have 76% capacity. It fluctuates between 75% and 80%.

Weird, I just had to replace my Early 2011 battery, and I've already had it replaced once. Went from good to dead in the span of like 2 days.

Please don't come with the "for the premium price it should include...". Using that logic, a Ferrari should include in its price someone to drive for you because it's hell expensive. Ok, jokes appart:

- It's a matter of thermal design, battery, point of failure (see all the problems with MBP's GPUs from 2010-11)
- dGPUs are not a must anymore, seeing how Iris 580 performs.
- If dGPUs weren't offered in the 13" when iGPUs were crapp (HD3000, HD4000...), they won't offer it now. I'd prefer to see increased SSD base storage instead, for the same price.
- You are not restricted anymore to having the same dGPU, now TB3 means eGPU with much more power (yeah, the ones supported, but I guess there won't be just 2-3 of them but many).
- There will probably be a dGPU option for all that want it: but it won't be a GTX1080m, it'll be an average dGPU like Apple used to use in MBP 15". And these average GPUs used will just perform slightly better than the iGPU. So I wouldn't consider it unless someone needs a bit more "mobile" GPU power. If someone needs raw power the eGPU is the way to go, and it will cost the same or even less than the plus paid for the dGPU option.

Conclusion: don't bother about it, Apple will do whatever they want to do :D

Sorry if this has already been covered, but are there are any clues Apple may make my dreams come true before WWDC? I think I configure rMBPs at least once a week now and I stil get a thrill. I remember reading recently that some OS X code references an early 2016 MacBook which implies a pre WWDC release. Has any one found any references to a 2016 MBP?

This is a myth perpetuated on the internet. It eminates from a very small number of users. Most users don't notice so the designers have done their job.

Personally, I'd like to see a keyboard option. Already there are language options. Is a mechanical type/travel option too much to ask for?

I actually like the MB keyboard.

This isn't really that accurate, unless you constantly have the dGPU activated.

Oh, so a dGPU isn't needed after all. HPC data centre far better (cheaper and performance) for all day processing.

This would clearly depend on the card, but it's very far from a universal truth. Particularly with the Polaris/Pascal cards coming out.

Like a conspiracy theorist, you saw universal truths that aren't there.

You have any source for that number?

No, but I see a lot of users who think they're the centre of the universe and that an NVIDIA GPU will solve all their problems. It doesn't. Even when you do get performance improvement, a lot of the time it's only marginal. A very small set of problems benefit from GPU processing. The MBP is a general purpose machine. Leave the dedicated stuff in the data centre. Even there, the new Intel architectures and large software overhead and extra hardware costs make GPU cards unjustifiable except for exotic problems.

Or YOU could choose to buy a unit without a dGPU and not impose your personal needs on everyone else.

That's for the design team. Most people don't know what's good for them.

What is that warning and is it good that I've never gotten it?

It's the 12-inch MacBook taking on an "extensive" load. I use it to watch a movie and Skype with my partner on movie nights when I'm not home as FaceTime drowns the sound of iTunes out.

- the upcoming new dGPU from AMD and Nvidia are focused on low-power / great performances.
- Iris 580, while very good, still perform like a class 2 GPU
- dGPU on 13" won't ever happen, in fact I hope dGPU for the 15"
- yeah, TB3 means this and it's great, but there aren't yet many eGPU solutions out there. The only two "official" are those from Razer and from AMD. Still not very much. I believe we'll have to wait more to really see them.
- it won't be a Nvidia because Polaris, from what we know for now, has great performances + low power consumption.
If you look back at the precedent dGPU Apple used for MBP, there was always the constraint of power. This time Apple has really no problems at all on putting a decent GPU. Nothing.
Still...

...don't bother about it, Apple will do whatever they want to do :D

That's definitely true, but I'll still hope.
:)

i wonder how will they justify a 2500+€ laptop without dgpu, probably they'll have to stop offering a laptop at that price alltogether?

also, what do we know so far about polaris? are all the praises based on real benchmark tests or only marketing claims? what's the % gain over hd580 and at which tdp?

They're Apple. They'll find a way to market a $2500 laptop without a dgpu.

What if Apple dearest did something crazy:

MacBook - 12 inch - Core M processor
MacBook "Air" (but with Retina display) - 13 or 14 inch - Dual Core i5/i7 processor
MacBook Pro - 15 or 16 inch - Quad Core processor

But then again, is it that crazy? :O

The 13 inch Air and 13 inch Pro are relatively similar aside from a few things (screen, processor, etc.) but if they were to join them and make the MacBook Pro 13 inch as thin as or maybe even thinner than the Air, designate that as the MacBook Air line. Then the larger (15 or 16) MacBook is designated for professional (ahem, prosumer) user.

The only issue I have with this is compromise. What processor would they use in the 13-inch Air/Pro hybrid? Would it include Iris 550 or something lower?

Count me in as one of the "very small number of users" then. I really have a hard time with the MB keyboard.

I'd like to see the MB keyboard technology with deeper travel.
