I think it's the best way for them to avoid losing sales. If they announce that new computers are coming next month, they can give up hoping to get rid of current models unless they radically drop prices.

Ah, now I see what they are doing, but on the other hand, don't they want the new model to sell crazy?
But again, it is Apple, they will have an exact plan for what they are doing..

I just checked, last time a MacBook was introduced at wwdc was in 2013 the macbook air. Last time mbp was introduced on wwdc was in 2012 the retina mbp. Curious if Apple will do that again or fit in another special event. Just hope they do not wait until september..

I didn't remember it.
That would made a lot of sense for a WWDC presentation.
I can already see Tim Cook on stage:

"In 2012 , we introduced the MBP. A laptop that revolutionized the idea itself of the laptop.
Then in 2013 we presented a new amazing MBA, the best MBA we've ever made.
So today, we introduce you..."

"...new 16 wristbands for your Apple Watch!"

"Joking, here's the new MacBook Pro Plus. Shaped like Air, powerful like Pro.
It's really the best laptop we've ever made."

"We think you're gonna love it"

Who wants a Macbook Pro Plus with 17" 2400p and those intel xeon cpu with Geforce 1060M or Amd equivalent ?
i think they can sell around 500.000 17" MBP worldwide, i think there are users who still use the 17" or want to come back to 17".

Macbook SE Plus: The best Macbook SE Plus we've ever released! Three screen sizes: 9", 12.7", 27". Starting at only $1099 for a 16 GB version. The ultimate computer that isn't iPad Pro. Jony Ive explains the thought process behind its super thin, port-free and fan-free design.

(Actually after the iPad "Super. Computer." introduction I keep on thinking they're going to stop producing Macbooks altogether. It seems an insane move, but indeed a lot of people thought removing floppies and CD-ROMs was insane too.)

Do apple ever radically drop there prices?
I'd buy a current top spec 15 if it were £1.5k...

I think that's s fair price...considering the dell XPS 15 was down at £1.7k the other week.

Maybe in 10 years yes. But they need to fill the gap of screen real estate, since their vision is a wireless one, compute power, apps etc but not early than 10 years.
Remember after 2010-2013 with insane ipad sells The mac is now on par with ipad, and i bet based on their wwdc mac lineup updates, the mac will be again nr 2 after the iphone. And apple see this,so they cant stop MAC

I actually want a 13" or 14" mbp. Had a 15" but it is too big for traveling in my opinion. At home I just use my stationary workstation. But I guess there would be a lot of customers for the 17". Especially those who only have a MacBook as their primary device.

from 1 generation to the next one the biggest price drop apple ever made i think was the Macbook Air gen 1 vs gen 2
i think was a $300 price drop

yes but it seems that polaris or pascal will be out around September. so i guess it will be only for imac..

Mobile Pascal is Q4 2016/Q1 2017.
Mobile Polaris is June/July 2016 depending on the market.

Apple could release the non-dGPU rMBP right after WWDC, and then release the laptops that do have a Polaris dGPU, somewhere in late june / early august.
But that's only if Apple decides to include a dGPU, which is questionable.

Also the barely fitting release schedules of the suitable Polaris dGPU's and the new rMBP is also a reason why they might not want to include a dGPU. So they won't have to wait a few more months. But like I said, they could introduce the new design with direct availability and announce that the the laptops with a dGPU will be shipping early August.

Amd only confirms that they are releasing Polaris before back to school...so before September? so it can be in June or July or August...so WWDC is risky since its in June. So i guess the Macbook pros will be only with Intel iGPU

Or the wait with the mbp's until september :/

What are the odd's of a 17" Pro with dGPU ?

Slim to none i'd say yet I'm still sat here on my 2011 Early 17" Pro in hope Apple surprises me with a PROPER PRO machine in June.

When the inevitable happens on 13th June and my dreams are shattered I need to start looking at another Laptop and go back to Windows :(

The 17" was a great computer, but not something I brought with me. It usually stood at my desk connected to a display 99% of the time.

Yea I am thinking about that too, for me a Dell XPS would do the job, but of course I'd prefer a mac.. Not because of the OS (I use a PC at home) but of the build quality. On the other hand I would probably wait again till september..

Am I misreading this (I guess I am) or are you suggesting they do two updates within two months?

Haha I was trying to say that at WWDC, at one event that they will announce the redesigned rMBP (which will probably be available off the bat) and they might mention that the dGPU version is coming early August or whenever. :)

Gotcha. I would say there's no way they will do that but since iPhone SE and iPad Pro 9.7" I am fully expecting them to introduce Macbook Pro and Macbook Pro Plus (and Macbook SE Mini).

Been lurking on here for wayyyy too long (since 2007 lol).

Anyone see the news about Bash coming to Windows 10? (http://arstechnica.com/information-...dows-10-preview-with-bash-support-is-out-now/)

I've been waiting for a MBP update for quite some time, but this kind of changes the landscape for me. I'm gonna try out the preview to see how it all goes, but having Bash will certainly make windows feel less crappy for the development of web-ish things. After all, I should now be able to brew or wget from Windows and that's pretty huge. A unix command line is what really tied me to mac, but if my dev won't feel second class on Windows I might be a convert.

Just food for thought.

Sweet. Yes, terminal was thee app I live by (iterm specifically). I'll have to seriously give win10 a look. Though having iMessage/FaceTime on my desktop would be tough to give up its not entirely impossible.
