So looking into my magic eight ball i would expect the next thinner 1gen. pro will be slightly underpowered and then we´ll see performance upgrades according to the tick tok model over the next five years.

They are not going to release new MBPs without a quad core; and not less powerful than the existing ones. They are more likely to expand the rMB with additional models, and once they can reduce the price of those, they will discontinue the Air.

As long as we don't end up with a couple more versions of the crazy thin MacBook, with some not actually pro pro feature, I'm happy to wait. And I suppose that if they do, these models will get cheaper again so happy days

I asked Siri that question last week, and somehow ended up navigating to the middle of a desert. Now she won't talk to me and I'm really cold. Guys, I don't know what to do here. I have no food and I can't get home without Siri's help...

My advice: stop asking...

I also fear that this might be the case. And given Apple's track record of introducing a hardware fault of some sort (serious or not) on their 1st gen product of a new design line, I might hold off one generation despite the long dreadful wait...

That's why I'm worried, I was one of the victims of the first retina iPad aka iPad 3.

My birthday is on the 11 of June so Apple better give me a rMBP 15" birthday present ;) E3 is also near my birthday <3 winning.

Depends if they allow us to upgrade our MBP aftermarket or they solder everything as a final, closed product.

With even the Mac Mini all downgraded and soldered, upgradability will be non-existent. Buy baseline if you want to sell and upgrade each cycle or maximise your configuration if you want to hold unto your computer for 3+ years. With the rather slow upgrade cycle and Intel moving away from desktop and laptop processor, it is worth noting that buying a rMBP to last a long time may be a good investment as development of new components are no longer the main focus of Apple's suppliers. iPad Pro could probably cannibalise 90% or more of the current rMBP users. If rMBP users are willing to change is the pressing issue...

Yes. My main post was kind of a wishful thinking in part of upgrades being possible once again. I bet they won't be.

If it's upgradable then 16GB and 256 SSD

If it's not, 32GB and 512 SSD.
You can always upgrade the ram, asking your local authorized apple service to do so, but yes if you know from the begining you keep your mac for the next 4-5 years you should buy it max out from the start

Mac mini can be a portable device, maybe they shrink it down the weght also
They should release a Mac nano. The same hardware from the rMB in the size of an iPhone. 2 USB-C on the back, 1 cable can be used to connect to a USB-C display for screen and power. $499 for 128GB version.

I compleatly agre with you of course Apple Will release a quad core. But Apple loves the wow factor!! and making an interesting presenting while introducing a new product can't be done just by explaining performance numbers.. "We made it paper thin and kept just as fast as the competition" and "you can get it in four colors including pink" is the usually selling points and can be understood and remembered by the less tech savvy (which is 90% of the global market). As someone mentioned in this thread there isn't any 13 inch quad cores on the market, at least not with a sleek design. Perhaps Apple will make a 14 inch quad core then.. But anyway 1 generations always have issues remember the introduction of retina screens, the first rMBP were very laggy even on normal websites and pdf's..

Sent from my iPhone

Yes but since 4k is the next mainstream res, they need that the mac mini support that, but i guess they can make usb-c with thunderbolt 3 to run 4k@60hz

Are 1st gen products as bad as people imply on these forums? It's getting me a little worried... I need a new laptop so so bad my 2010 models hard drive failed and I can't access the osx partition. I've been getting by just using bootcamp because I can't justify buying the old model when I've waited this long and I'm hopefully nearly at the finish line! Earlier this year I did buy an xps 13 which lasted a few days before i sent it back so that and Using boot camp full time has reassured me though that I couldn't use a windows only laptop!
