I got a feeling Apple is dropping ports on next MacBook Pro for USB-C, not sure how I feel about that considering we are probably still 3-4 years away from USB-C being standard

Didn't stop them dropping FireWire for Thunderbolt. Availability and cost of USB-C adaptors and hubs will mean this is not a significant issue.

Depends what you mean by "dropping ports." I wouldn't be surprised to see USB A ports replaced in equal number with USB C ports. I'd be shocked if they actually "drop ports" on the rMBP.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, rMBP are coming in October!!
http://www.engadget.com/2015/09/01/intel-skylake-family-launch/
Intel's 'Skylake' CPU family includes an unlocked laptop chip
Hate to be a party pooper but all of those HQs and HQ Xeons have the Intel HD530 (AKA GT2) meaning that Apple isn't even remotely interested in using those. The only way Apple is launching one in October is if they have a custom or unreleased and unannounced chip from Intel.

How's this ?

Intel Skylake processors launched at Ifa tech show

Well if you've been waiting for Skylake Processors those are them.
The problem with those models is the lack of the GT3/GT4e Apple uses in the current Haswell rMBP. If they were to use those processors listed on those articles then the next rMBP would be a downgrade in terms of graphics performance.

Those models are the Skylake CPU's.

This thread is called Skylake..

Have fun.

Well, I was wrong earlier and Intel announced its mobile lines.
This link especially mention 28W parts with Iris GPU, it's very interesting!
Here is the official document from Intel : http://download.intel.com/newsroom/kits/core/6thgen/pdfs/6th_Gen_Intel_Core-Intel_Xeon_Factsheet.pdf

Yep, those 28 W parts are coming with the Iris Pro but in 2016 according to Intel's slides just posted by Engadget. Very useful link btw, really gives us insight into the pricing of the mobile Xeons.

So can someone please translate the news for me? What is the likelihood of a 13" Skylake rMBP release in 2015?

Realistically, should we except it in early 2016?

Also, is Skylake really worth the hype?

Yah i want to know the answer to this too.

With what we know now there's no possibility for both 13" and 15" (Im not ruling out apple surprising us though with the 15). The question now is "when" in 2016.

But why? Endgadget said the Skylakes have been released.

Yes, Intel has indeed released Skylake, but the parts that Apple uses (the ones with GT3e/GT4e Graphics) weren't, they are coming in 2016. That was just the first wave of Skylake. Their lamest CPU's are released first just to be followed months later with the worthy parts. I really don't know why Intel just doesn't release ALL of them at the same time.

I can't believe we have to wait another 6 months? Wtf

Did no one see my post two pages back about the two NEW Skylake U 15 watts GTe3 CPUs with unconfirmed names and release dates? Could be the ones being used in the 13" if Intel releases them in 2015. They would then use Xeon and HQ for the 15". This would make an October release for the 13" and 15" possible.

If they were to release that GT3e 15W CPU this year then a 13" update would be possible. In my case it's the 15" that I want and seeing there's no CPU suitable for it, a 2015 update for that one is impossible.

The U-series CPUs without Iris graphics should be available to OEMs now and will begin shipping in systems soon, but Intel says the 15W and 28W Iris chips won't start shipping until early 2016.

The more powerful 28W versions of the U parts have always been rarer unicorns than the 15W versions; Apple's 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro is one of the few computers that has used them consistently. If Apple keeps using them, the next version of the rMBP should get a nice boost—all four of the 28W U-series chips include Iris 550 GPUs with 72 EUs and 64MB of eDRAM.

The low-power chips are where Intel is devoting most of its attention these days, but the company is also announcing some quad-core chips aimed at mobile workstations. These chips should all be available by the end of the year, but we'll have to wait until early 2016 for high-end versions with Iris Pro GPUs.

So it looks like the 13-inch and the 15-inch won't updated in 2015, but at least the 13-inch is a getting a nice igpu upgrade.
