Is it possible to somehow run OSX on a Razer? I think I will be buying one of those if there is no significant update at WWDC.
Highly unlikely. While there are Hackintoshes, those highly depend on having hardware that work with OS X. Even then, it's never flawless, and I've seen all sorts of unexpected issues even after a successful install.

This thread with almost 12000 posts has now overtaken the "the-i-just-ordered-bought-got-my-new-refurb-mbp" sticky running since the year 2009.

Does it mean there are more people waiting for skylake than bought a MBP in the last 7 years? :)

There are at least a lot of people not happy with the "non development" apple took.
But over the time I recognized the step to the new modern Windows 10 pro and the new silent, touch enabled, 4k, beautiful Windows Laptops as not that difficult.

I ask myself why did I thought MacOSX was superior to Windows ?

I have been wondering the same for quite some time now. I imagine there would be issues, I enjoy the challenge or sorting those out though. However, It would not be possible to get the trackpad on the blade to act like a trackpad on a MacBook (especially the ones with force touch, but the ones without too). And that is a major deal breaker for me.

Wait, is Iris Pro 580 going to be for the 13" as well, or are we only getting Iris Pro 550?
Iris 550 for the 13" macbook. There isn't actually an Iris Pro 550 part, the Pro moniker designates the highest class available.
This is right but there is something to add - a big nuance. Up until Haswell non-Pro Irises had no eDRAM so pretty much they were named Iris being just top HD-series iGPUs. Since Broadwell (and including Skylake) they do have eDRAM as well as Irises Pro and they have enough of it to actually make a difference, they're naturally distinct from the HD-series now.

What I'm trying to say is the difference between Iris and Iris Pro for Haswell is much bigger than for Skylake.

Because:

1) Windows 10 Pro isn't THAT a big innovation in the first place, compared to Win7. (And I tried it.)
2) Touch-enabled screen is overrated and only marginally useful (unless the laptop is a convertible).
3) 4K. So what, when most apps don't scale and even some parts of the OS itself can't scale for that resolution.
4) Beautiful Windows laptop. Yes, there are nice ones but unfortunately, most of the them still have terrible trackpads and/or keyboards.

And for the record, I use both and I'm still waiting for THE quality Windows laptop that I would gladly purchase to replace the existing one. (Yes, yes I have looked at the Dell XPS, supposedly the best Windows laptop out there; but it still doesn't cut it for me -- while the hardware is great, software still has lots of rough edges.)

So for now, I still enjoy using my MBPr much more than my Windows laptop. I have been using Windows since the Windows 3.1 days. I appreciate its eco-system, it has served me well but now, for sheer enjoyment of using a computer to do some web programming, I use the Mac unless there is some technical reason for me to use Windows.

I'm waiting for the New MacBook Pro 2016 with skylake.... Anyone here like me?

Yes, I'm waiting this release so I will get the macbook pro retina 2012 version in the best offers, lol. Waiting for something is happy.

I didnt find a win oem laptop to be as balanced as a mbp

Yes, I think this is totally true, I am no Mac fanboy (Android user, no iphone for me thx), in fact I think macs are a little expensive for the hardware that they have. I have been tempted by the XPS 15, but I know I will not be satisfied unless I get a new MBP. Once you go Mac, you never go back.

Of course it all comes down to use case and personal taste,
but for me, I tried over a month long, windows 10 is nowhere near Mac OS X when it comes to usability and stability. Also that privacy-gate of Win10 is a real sour apple to bite into - if you wanna put it that way.

1) but it nice and easy to use, with a lot of software
2) that's what I thought before I had it == now I love it on my XPS 15 9550, from time to time I accidentally touch the screen of my late 2013 15" rMBP -> frustration, resizing is much more precise using the touch screen
3) I don't see a scaling problem with apps I use ( Office, Sublime Text 3, Kindl.app, Onenote -- the killer app- much better on the PC, Visual Studio ...Linux VM in virtualbox)
4) the Trackpad on my XPS 15 is not worse compared to the rMBP --

Have to agree the keyboard and trackpad on the XPS are god awful. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy to have to deal with those keys..

? do we really speak about the same XPS 15" 9550 Skylake ?

until now I thought keyboard and trackpad are great ... but while I think about it ... I realize the sound of the TAB-Key is a little bit disturbing /s
[doublepost=1463399449][/doublepost]and the 2.5 TB of internal SSD's inside the XPS way to much, and to inexpensive because I could use old Parts ... /s

Yes I think that's what this thread is all about. Either that or I have been following the thread for almost a yr now for no good reason.

I'm speaking from XPS 9350, I understand it's a year older but afaik the key board and trackpad are the same. I admit the keys have a nice jumpy feeling but the layout is terrible and getting used to it takes a while. As for the trackpad...... It's the most dust attracting, hardly reacting, awful feeling 'track pad' (in comparison with rMBP) but for Windows I guess it's ok..

OMG, 4 weeks until WWDC. I will miss this thread :D
It will most likely be updated to 'waiting for Kaby lake' or equivalent :p

Ah, the smartass comes in again ;) I like how your previous useless comment was met with my reply, and you have yet to respond to it. Are you just trying to save face at this point by making another "snide" remark and giving yourself a high five?
I didn't see a need to respond to you. If you want to be trolled, then have at it. I don't feel obligated to care about Serban's temper tantrum, so I didn't.

How about making some actual contributions
Uh, I've been in this thread before you were even a registered user. Calm it down, whippersnapper.

instead of acting like a college student who thinks he's part of a pro market because he uses a MBP at Starbucks?
Oh, presumptuous and pretentious. Don't let anyone tell you that you aren't a pro multitasker.

However, of course I've run into the problems that many have in that Apple has already initiated a program for the 2011-2013 retina MacBook Pro's for the video issues. So even though ideally it should be an even trade-off, there's clearly something wrong with how Apple is designing a computer that is clearly not designed for a mobile GPU stuck in there.
Saying you've run into problems with you GPU is a silly reason to say Apple should abandon them. Plenty of people have bought Macbooks or iMacs with dGPUs, including me(funny how anecdotal evidence works), and haven't had any issue with them. There have been recall issues with displays, magsafe, and even USB-C chargers, but they don't automatically signal some institutional issue with their production. If you don't want a dGPU, then don't buy one. But it's absolute nonsense to say Apple should stop including them altogether, particularly with the large performance boost that Pascal and Polaris will bring.

Ok lets talk about dell xps
  • Coil Whine while on AC power. This squeaking noise is most pronounced while cold booting the computer, and is less audible on battery power.
  • Fan while charging: While charging the battery and until it reaches around 90%, the fans run at high speed that is very audible. I do not have express charge enabled in BIOS or Dell Power Command, and have optimal as the fan setting. This has been reported by other, but not all, XPS 15 owners
  • USB-C Powershare: it does not charge when the laptop is off as when using the type-A USB ports. Powershare is enabled in the BIOS, and the phone does charges after logging into Windows. The latest Dell Thunderbolt 3 firmware was installed with no resolution.
[doublepost=1463404170][/doublepost]If you don't use 32GB SSD cache drive or RAID, remove the Intel Rapid Storage Technology in Control Panel and install only AHCI drivers: 1)
[doublepost=1463404224][/doublepost]
  • the CPU throttling after AC -> battery -> AC
  • the "NVMe related SSD Sleep bug - performance seems to be cut in half after Sleep" -> happens only in RAID mode, not in AHCI
[doublepost=1463404326][/doublepost]WD15 docking station with XPS 15 and after a while mouse stops working.
[doublepost=1463404418][/doublepost]like i said a more polished and balanced Windows laptop like mbp does not exist.

PS: so sad to see degrade in synthetic benchmarks in Skylake vs Haswell (maybe it does depend on ram 8 GB vs 16 GB respectively)

So HD 580 is 10% slower than desktop GTX 750 Ti in Dirt 3 with similar settings. Not bad, at all.

The score from review for HD580 - 54 FPS.

Same. It has everything i'm looking for in a laptop (except the OS). If Apple disappoints at WWDC, i'm hopping on the Razer bandwagon.
