Doubt they will... They're big and take up space they're trying to fill with battery
Really? It's too early to get rid of them as so many peripherals use them and USB C isn't mainstream yet. Their own Lightning cables use USB A so you would need an adapter just to be able to connect an iOS device to iTunes. I would be happy with even one USB A port and the rest USB C.

Sorry but they sell USB-C to lightning cables now. Also the newest AppleTV has a USB-C slot in the back. You need USB A? Buy an adapter.

That may even be true, but you (Apple) can't seriously believe pros out there (musicians, video/photo editors, etc..) can use an iPad (whichever model they get) for their daily tasks!

I don't believe Apple could be so blind to believe that just with a marketing move they can convince millions of creatives to turn to an iPad instead of an i5/7.
That would mean they've completely lost their route and so deserve what will come next in this case.

I can barely get my mixings done with an i5 MBA that performs almost like a MBP (just falling slightly 8-10% behind in benchmarks). And I'm not even using Nebula (a sound rompler that replicates the harmonics/behaviour of hardware audio processors), which I plan to do soon like many other do and which obviously doesn't exist in iOS. I can't imagine getting this work done on an iPad, plus doing it without a mouse, having to connect an audio interface throught a camera kit, lacking most used VST's/AU's, working only with native toy-tools of the iOS DAWs, etc.

A computer is a tool, an iPad is another tool, but a computer will get 100% of your work done, while iPad will get just a fraction of that work done. So an iPad it's just an additional tool to your work kit, rather than a must have tool.

I just took a look back to the previous Apple keynotes for MBP and MB.
Based on that and on the rumors we had so far, and considered that I haven't seen yet a sort of precise sum up, I've made by myself a prediction of the 2016 MBP.
At least we have some kind of FAQ.
Feel free to correct it!

- When is it coming? Hopefully WWDC, 13 June 2016 Yes
- How will it looks like? Based on rumors, shaped like the current MacBook Air.
Sure with full-metal hinge like the MB.
- Display: Improved Retina display, based on the larger pixels of the MacBook, or even supporting P3 gamut, based on the new techs of the iMac. 13" and 15" Yes about technologies. Screen 13.3"or 14" and 15,6" or 16"
- Price: You don't want to know that... 1.500-3.200$ based on configurations
- Processor: Skylake quad-core CPUs
15" / 2.6 GHz Core i7-6770HQ, 2.7 GHz Core i7-6870HQ, and 2.8 GHz Core i7-6970HQ
13" / 2.9 GHz Core i5-6267U, 3.1 GHz i5-6287U, and 3.3 GHz Core i7-6567U Yes about 15". Nope with 13" (It will carry 15w processors).
- Memory: 8/16 GB of 1866MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory Nope. 2133Mhz DDR4. Up to 32gb in 15" model
- Storage: 256/512 GB PCIe-based flash storage 1TB option in 15" model
- Size and Weight: Thinner and lighter, of course. Based on the current 13" MBA:
Height: 0.11-0.68 inch (0.3-1.7 cm)
Width: 12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth: 8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
Weight: 2.96 pounds (1.35 kg)
- Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 550 for the 13", Iris Pro 580 for the 15". Maybe AMD Polaris dGPU for 15" Iris 540 for 13"
- Camera: 720p FaceTime HD camera
- Connections:
New MagSafe power port? Based in smart connector? I think It will have usb-c power cord like rMB
USB-A? Yes
3.5 mm headphone jack Sure
USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 support Sure (hopefully...)
- Wireless: Wi-Fi 802.11ac wireless networking, Bluetooth 4.0 wireless technology
- Audio: Improved speakers and microphones
- Keyboard: Full-size improved backlit keyboard with butterfly mechanism Or redesigned scissor mechanism with less key travel like magic keyboard one
- Trackpad: Force Touch trackpad
- Battery and Power: Improved battery life with terraced batteries, up to... 10/11/12 hours?

495 pages, 21 days left to the WWDC...and still no leaks but a bunch of speculations

That's my point. They can keep saying the iPad is the device of the future and that in a few years nobody will be looking for a laptop anymore (I seriously doubt it) but today some people still need the power of a machine such as the Pro.

Apple knows that, so I don't think they are going to abandon Pro line anytime soon.
More realistic, they're trying to switch back to the good old customers division between pros and regular, with the rMBP and rMB respectively.

What really bothers me is the price tag of the latter. The only chance we (regular customer) have to stay in the market with a brand new Apple device is a price cut for the rMB after the rMBP announcement/release.
Otherwise, the rMB would way overpriced for an "entry level" machine

if apple can't make the rMBP thin enough to be forced onto USB C while simultaneously offering a power/battery increase, USB A will most likely make a reappearance this year.

Hey guys, I need some advice.
I am going to the US in July. I want to buy the new rMBP there. It will save me alot of money and I will have the US keyboard layout.

If I wanted to buy a rMBP here (Holland) with a US keyboard I'd have to wait at least 2-4 weeks. So I would be able to get the rMBP for a lot cheaper and have automatically have the US keyboard. Win - Win.

But I am concerned about bringing it back through the airport.
Could you send me a message if you know what I could do safely bring it back to Holland without trouble?

I am planning on buying Apple Care and a european charger here when I come back from the states.

Didn't really want to start a new thread for this question

Thanks! I think I'll just slap a few stickers on it and get a sleeve for it so it looks used. I'll keep the receipt and papers in a book or something :)

Asus has quietly put a UX306 on their site, with backlit keyboard and usb c. Looks pretty nice, hope Apple announces new Macs, because the windows options are getting better and better. (Dell xps, HP spectre, etc)

Let's wait until fall for new rMBP :p No rumors, no leaks and 3 weeks until WWDC :/

Still not thinking like that. In Products like iPhone/iPad/apple Watch are way more people and external Manufacturers (cases, wristbands, accessories..) involved which makes it lot more easier to get informations about new releases than MacBooks/iMacs etc.

We will see new MBPs very soon - I'm very confident about that. They will deliver us great products as they did with the Mac Pro some years ago.

Naaaaaah I don't like the asus, dells and so on..... With apple REALLY would rebranding their OS and switch from "OS X" to "macOS" would mean, that they still got some focus on these kind of products!

Totally agree. What happened was:
1. People bought iPads to replace old laptops thinking they could do everything with it = iPad sales highly increase
2. People realised iPads were good for content consuming, but not for getting work done, so they bought a Mac/Laptop for working, again, or just used the old one = Laptop sales
3. When next iPads generation came, year after year less people bought it since they already had one which was OK for what they did (some web browsing, fb, and some videos) = iPad sales stagnating more and more

So here we have lowest iPad sales ever since first iPads generations, while Macs despite being "outdated" continue selling similar numbers they used to.
That, plus the rMB, is why I think Apple will come back to the regular computer customers, focussing only on iPads and forgetting Macs would be crazy.

But the UX306 is more comparable to MacBook than MacBook Pro.
Nonetheless, the ZenBook Pro UX501VW is really tempting.
15" 4k display, Intel i7, NVIDIA GTX 960M, lot of ports (included USB-C/TB3), great speakers, 6 hours battery life, 512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, 2 kg weight.... all for 1499 $

Apple, your move now.
Give us once again "the best laptop you've ever made".
Please.

Agreed, and iOS was a really bad choice for iPad.

What Apple should have done, imo, was to make a new tablet OS with support for something similar to WinRT (implemented much cleaner than what Microsoft did, of course), with existing OSX apps gradually shifting to this interplatform API like how they did it during the PowerPC->Intel transition period. Then porting apps between x64 & ARM would be a breeze, making it a decent production platform for those who do need to replace their computers with iPad.

With iPad as it stands currently sharing iOS that's really only meant to be used on a phone, iPad will never be the device that Apple imagines it will become one day...

As one of the few that uses an iPad as main device right now (iPP 12.9) I can corroborate that for the most part it can replace many functions that a person would need from a laptop. the iPP is more than enough to replace the rMB for example. BUT that said, I'm still in this post waiting for a rMBP because there are just certain tasks that it cannot do.

Media creation - for the basic user iPP is enough to create short projects and sometimes it can be quite easy.
Devs - well.. yeah.. the main choke point of why iPP, in its current iOS form, cannot be a 'pro' device. You can most certainly write code, but can't test or publish projects. Devs are obviously better off wit a laptop.

I agree that Apple is going for the casual - pro division, with product lines that are only separated by the 'pro' moniker. I think the upcoming iPhone will also be divided as iPhone and iPhone Pro, as the iPad lines are and the soon to be simplified rMB/rMBP lines will be.

What annoy me the most about the current MacBook Pro lineup is that they try to make it as thin as other Mac laptops 0_o MacBook Pro should in my opinion be a computer designed for power users and some gaming :)

I would love to see a better graphics card in the next generation MacBook Pro. I currently have a 2010 MacBook Pro 15" with a Nvidia GeForce gt 330m, which needs to be replaced by a new Mac with discrete graphics (I am not a big fan of "Pro" computers with integrated graphics). My current MacBook Pro have served me well, thanks to the discrete graphics card :)

I agree with you that's why the iPad sales stagnated but I wouldn't agree that its a foregone conclusion that iPads are not replacement material.

The second point that you make is true in the sense that it's good for content consumption, but I would challenge the assumption that it can't get work done. It requires a lot of effort from the consumer side to make it work, yes, but the possibility of iPad being real productivity contenders only came with the iPP and by then people had already made up their minds. It is definitely doable to replace laptops, but it does require a lot of effort.

For the time being they certainly will focus on both Mac and iPad but in the long run vision of the next 5-10 years in mind, there will probably a shift towards mobile devices with cloud computing (similar to Chromebooks or HP Stream) with a beefier 'docking display' for heavier tasks. I just think that with Apple doing everything to optimize software to run great on minimum specs and investing heavily in Cloud, something is bound to change. Besides Macs aren't the only device/services that need an update, have you seen iCloud recently? the web apps are horrible to use and the interface is unusually laggy.

It's a tough balance. The Air/MacBook lines are not nearly powerful enough for my uses (software development, data analysis, video editing and the like). The current MacBook Pro's work great for me. I feel your pain, but the last thing I want is to have to carry around an 8 lb slab so that you can have a mobile gaming powerhouse.

Those of you using a RMBP for Lightroom/Photoshop would you settle for the 580 IGPU or option for any DGPU that likely will be offered as well?
Or you might ask if the IGPU be good enough for this usage ;)
