Which type of tasks would having a dGPU be better than an iGPU, and which would there be no noticeable benefit?
I will throw in my 2 cents.
While the mainstay programs in my field of work (Revit, AutoCAD, PS, and Sketchup) all can run with an igpu as some are more geared towards CPU power... the ability to offload the graphical work to a dgpu is noticeable for me. Even if it is only for the minutia of minimizing laggy input. AutoCAD especially.....

but like OSX7 said... time will tell and we will see.

It's looking extremely likely for me that I'll be picking up a 2015 rMBP. Not only will I save a couple hundred on the price, I'm in Montana for 7 more weeks so I'll save on sales tax as well. Would love a Skylake instead, but I'm sure I'll be more than happy with this one after having my 2010 MBP for 6 years now.

This is like waiting for a Stone Roses album to be released.

So what about this story on replacing iPads with Macbooks on the Mac Rumors main page? I like this quote:

One teacher wrote in the survey that iPads "provide no educational function in the classroom. Students use them as toys. Word processing is near to impossible. I applaud this change."

Apple has apparently acknowledged that MBs (and hopefully MBPs) fill a niche that cannot be covered by iPad Pros.

No kidding. I have always accepted that certain people can take an iPad and actually work on it but for most people, working on actual laptop is so much more efficient for the general tasks.

I think Apple was browsing on here when they read my post a while back. Make the iPads great, and make the laptops great. Stop making one of them into the other.

I imagine June 13th going something like this:

All iOS, OSX related stuff and watchbands had been revealed, the conference seemingly nears the end as Timmy prepares to head off stage, the forum starts to riot, then suddenly.... Timmy turns around and says "one more thing", a familiar but slightly different silhouette appears on screen.....

one can dream
And then he says MORE WATCH BANDS!!!!!!! And then the audience rushes the stage.

I'm an iOS developer... Not currently doing game development but might in the future. So mainly I'll touch photoshop or sketch for now. Would a dGPU be be an asset for game development or is an iGPU good enough for that?

I think the Iris Pro 580 will handle game development in Unity/UE just fine if you are planning on working with simple 2D/3D games (probably not Infinity Blade kind of graphics).

As a future first time Mac user, seeing the release of the new OS X in addition to the MBP will be like getting two products in one. I'm also pretty excited about iOS 10; we haven't heard much about it so I'm hoping we get some cool features.

I don't know, man.I would love to say "Why yes of course! More power and it's only money!"
My gut would say probably not.... especially if you are questioning it. have you checked around other websites for other developer's inputs for the recommended hardware?

I guess by sketch you do mean sketchup?
If so I would say you do not necessarily need one... as long as you manage your model well (every computer will buckle eventually).
Though, I would say you may want to look at 3DS or Maya for modeling. Learn it! It will pay off... though you will need to bootcamp into Windows to use those.

This is all from a 0 to null ;) experience with game development.

Use at your own risk.

Even if they don't release anything no chance I will buy the current (outdated) version, i'd rather buy a XPS or another high-end windows laptop...

You say "outdated" just for the Broadwell?
Right now I would have buy a Windows laptop again (and I'm typing from one).
I'm absolutely a fanboy whatsoever, but if the line is just between Broadwell and Skylake, I don't think you need an Apple laptop at all.

Same here. If they are not going to release a new rMBP in June, 2015 13" model would be just fine to me.
Then, I know they'll do something in Fall and that I'm going to love it but still, today's Broadwell model more than satisfy my needs and is proved to be a reliable machine
[doublepost=1464031646][/doublepost]...and guys, whatever happen on June 13th, I'll be more than glad to be part of this thread!

We're making the history of mass marketing, mass paranoia and disillusion all together

Cheers

I agree on Serbant. Apple is famous for ditching still widely used protocols/technologies, and this time it wouldn't be a ditch but a connector replacement, USB would be still there but much better. I don't see Apple keeping USB A just for the sake of being common now, while in 1-2 years almost everything will be released in USB C and this is a redesign for the next 4-5 years.

The thing is: if Apple releases them with USB A, people will complain they don't risk/innovate. If they release them with USB C, people will complain that they have to use an adaptor/cable meanwhile more USB C devices aren't comming yet.

If that what happens, I'm sending Tim Cook my therapy bill and possibly suing for pain and suffering.

It's about a principle. I refuse to pay 2500 euro up for a laptop with old components, end of the story. But apart from Skylake (and the gpu), it's the entire design that feels outdated compared with other laptops currently on the market imho.

I also won't probably buy it, if they just update it with Skylake and Thunderbolt 3. Needs to be something a bit more innovative than that.
