Agreed. There will probably be another event in October, with the release of El Cap.

Here's the history of events:

2013:
September 10: Apple announced the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S
October 22: Apple announced iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display, also upgrading its MacBook Pro lineup

2014:
September 9: Apple announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, as well as Apple Watch
October 16: Apple announced iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, iMac with 5K display and new Mac Mini

This sounds reasonable:

2015:
September 9: iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, iPad Pro?
October ??: New iPad Air and iPad Mini, Some new Mac

Lot of little birdies out tonight in San Francisco. The consensus is that there’s only going to be one Apple event this fall, and it’s tomorrow. So if there’s an iPad Pro, it’s coming tomorrow, no matter how much or how little sense that makes.

Just a couple more hours to find out. Me personally hoping for October event.

Almost three quarters of the way through and they've only just got onto the iPhone. Safe to say I don't see anything Mac related being today.

Ooh look the iPhone 6S like the iPhone 6 only slightly better. #Dull

I'm wondering if Apple has ever done 4 events a year?
Since we had the March, June and September events, I'm beginning to doubt there will be an announcement in October.

I'm still hoping for a big surprise this year though!

Well there was no word on mac from what i remember. The only thing was a "email" from an on stage demo where it said that el capitan will be released on 30 sept which can still mean an separate event.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but was there any osx release without any new hardware ?

I am really looking for buying a new macbook pro with skylake and the update of airport time capsule ....
no word from today event...

any ideas???

Guess we'll have to wait until the spring event.

Given that the iPad Pro now has more pixels in the display than a 15" rMBP I can't wait to see how the redesign of the MBP will look.

5K?

Apple is really pushing it. It's not coming this year because it's going to be great and I'm completely fine with that. My wallet wasn't ready anyway :p.

I have a gut feeling we might still get a October event for Mac because the iPad pro doesn't ship till November so it would be great to sell the macs before iPad pro is released and butchers the mac lineup. Just my 2 cents.

Nah, usually Tim says something like:"Enjoy the demo's! Stay well. We'll see you back in October!".

That didn't happen this time.

Announcing new rMBP's especially when the iPad Pro will begin shipping in November would overshadow the iPad Pro.

I think Apple wants to avoid the redesigned rMBP from stealing thunder from the iPad Pro (especially considering the small price difference between the most expensive iPad Pro and a possible base model redesigned 13" rMBP). If you think about it, seeing how much the iPad Pro improved there's no telling how much better the new rMBP's will be.

There certainly appears to have been a great deal of effort put into the Apple TV, iPad Pro and iPhones. Hard to tell if that would impact an rMBP redesign.

Share the opinion that the launch of a radical redesign of the lower end models of the rMBP and/or MBAir prior to the November launch of the iPad Pro could cannibalise sales.

It's all making a Spring refresh look more and more likely.

I agree with you. They would not announce a new MBP so soon after the iPad Pro. The iPad Pro was the main event today, followed by Apple TV, then Watch OS, then finally 6S. How come every time I need to upgrade my phone its on a loser version? :)

Timing is everything.

But there is a pattern with iPhones, the second version of any model has tended to be the better option.

So if we're talking 2016, there are two questions really:

1. When?
I think March.

2. Complete redesign?
Maybe, but probably not. The current retina design has only been out 3 years. The original MBP was released 2006 and retina 2012 so that's 6 years...Also the Powerbook (MBP predecessor) was released 2001 and sold for 5 years. I think we're talking a redesign 2017 the earliest.

MacBook Pro: 2006
Unibody: 2008
Unibody v1.5 (builtin battery): 2009
Unibody v2 (Retina MBP): 2012

A complete redesign is pretty much guaranteed.

But as always: Be careful what you wish for! ;)

IMHO the current rMBP design is still one of the best notebook designs on the market and I can easily think of more ways they could screw it up than ways they could improve it.
