Pros remember the shortcuts they constantly use, they don't care what's printed on the keys.

as long as they have keys.
true statement.
like saying: pros don't look to the keyboard while typing: for sure my fingers can find the right key without looking at it, but what if there are no more keys under your fingers?
this remind me the physical key to touch screen transition.
after 3 months i was able to write an entire text message with one hand without looking to my n70 screen using t9 (i even learnt the different alternative words offered by the t9)
after 6 years on an iPhone i can't write 2 words without a typo if i don't look at the screen.

What do people think the likelihood of them keeping the current rMBP around, perhaps with upgraded specs like they did in 2012? May appease the people who want to keep the legacy design and ports.

Personally, all the rumours sound brilliant. A bit thinner and lighter, TB3 and USB-C, with TouchID and a fancy new OLED bar?! Count me in. I definitely think the OLED bar could be a lot more useful than the current function keys, especially if it's open to developers.

So are all these Q4 rumours having some substance?

If so this is massive loss for Apple, by Q4 Kabylake is going to be coming out and the new Macbooks will be already generation old lol  And while Kabylake won't have much in terms of speed, it is gonna be leaps ahead in graphics department, so if someone is buying Mabook without discrete graphics card they should really consider their choices.

Yeah but that's because that's how the world worked then, Apple could very simply make the process easier by adding customisable keys that are within a fingers reach.
You can customize all existing keys no matter what label they have. If you want to change the label it would be better to use keyboards with displays in all the keys, which have been available for years for PCs, because feeling the keys has its advantages, as old fashioned as it might seem.

Kaby Lake also has advantages for Thunderbolt 3 which is why I'm nearly expecting Apple to skip Skylake.

I was thinking about this q3/q4 thing. Kabylake is expected to ship by the third quarter. This MacBook Pro is rumored to begin shipping by fourth quarter. (Yeah yeah i know the difference between solar and fiscal).
What if at wwdc Apple will present this complete new lineup and starts shipping it by the end of the summer and updates the current lineup with speed dump and price drop, keeping just the integrated gpu version and without cto options? Damn i really need something new to thinking about...

This is actually more possible than you think.

seriously, do you guys think to a programmable oled bar as a "pro feature"? well i don't.
Wouldn't be Macrumors without someone saying they're too professional for a feature they can only speculate about since they've never seen it.

There. Will. Not. Be. Kabylake. Chips. Suitable. For. Macbook Pros. Until. The. Same. Time. Next. Year.

Yeah problem being these keys require combination of key presses as opposed to a single tap. The other keyboards you mention often tend to be a novelty item and are a proof of concept at best since they tend to be massive and clunky. Razer might be the only one that kinda had it right ish but even that turned out bad

wouldn't be a forum without someone presenting his idea (with some reasons behind his statement) and someone else quoting him just for the statement without adding nothing new to the discussion.
i'm not even near to be really a pro at the moment (IMHO pro=someone making money out of this tools) but, i use my mac to create contents with advanced tools.
IMHO, again, there's a lot more to work on instead of adding a gimmick oled touch bar on the top case and removing a full row of keys. for the kind of usage that i currently do, i can't imagine to not have an ESC physical key, or some of the F keys.
than again i would be happy to redeem myself IF apple will present this new feature AND it will be really useful, at the moment I can't see any potential in a thing like that, but i'm no one except someone who care more in getting a more reliable machine instead of new things that will probably increase the complexity of the final project.

thank god some confirmations...
so bold, so much emphasis...

A lot of people felt the same way when Apple removed buttons from the trackpad. I think you're being very quick to dismiss a feature we know little about. You're calling it a gimmick without fully assessing the possibilities.

you're right on this, my bad. let's wait and see.
in any case I'm way more interested in what there's gonna be under the hood.

(new cargo of refurbished on the store, they're a lot)

For instance, if they ship this product Q4 they are going to build in Kaby Lake.. Maybe they will also drop a early 2017 version auf rMBP?

Who's fourth quarter is Kaby Lake shipping by? Apples? Intels? The calendar year?

The rumours say Apple will be launching the new MacBook Pro in the fourth quarter, now if this is Apples fourth quarter then that starts in July as it ends in September. So it is very possible Apple will launch the new laptops at WWDC next month and they'll be on sale in July.
Now considering just how long Intel took to launch Skylake processors that the MacBook Pro could use, I doubt very very very very very very much that Intel will be shipping Kaby Lake processors in time for the new MacBook Pro to use.
I would be very surprised if Intel managed to ship them this year at all. It always starts with a select few processors first.

So I'm stoked we get Skylake, I want a new model MacBook Pro now, not wait endlessly for that next processor Intel are working on.

It is frankly ridiculous to 'wait for Kaby Lake' because you may as well wait for the next one, or the one after that or the one after that.....

And as I said I doubt very much Intel will be shipping Kaby Lake processors that are suitable for Apples entire range of MacBook Pros by last month or the month before considering manufacturing time.

Exactly, people just don't seem to get that fact. But hey we may as well just wait for the next model after Kaby Lake right? Or the one after that, or the o.......
I just want a damn updated MacBook Pro!

For ****'s sake not again.

I would say the exact same about everyone posting on here stating Apple may as well wait for Kaby Lake or that they WILL be putting Kaby Lake into the new models.

We don't have enough material to make an educated judgement.

The idea doesn't sound intrinsically bad. However it could either be a well executed one that turns out to be game-changing, or a total disaster...

Or, like most decisions made in life, it could be something in between a game-changing or total disaster event...Bell curves fit most things in life- my hunch is this touch bar willl fit in the bell curve as well.
