This and: iPad Pro
Yup, also add in the rumour that there could be a price drop with the new model and Apple would end up with warehouses full of rMBPs that nobody wants to buy.

So they keep quiet until the very last moment. The majority of the public either accept this or are blissfully unaware.

I agree while this is a very sound tactic for keeping MBP sales up before the announcement of the update....i thought the public and consumer while planning to purchase a machine with premium, they would research and fact-check the current model's spec in order to ensure they are getting what they pay for.... I just don't like how Apple treat its customer charging premium with inferior hardware while branding the machines like they were cutting edge technology.

Just letting out how I feel right now....my macbook pro mid-2010 is having Kernel Panic more than 5 times a day. I really need a good laptop but I wouldn't accept buying the current model.

Still rocking my 2008 MacBook (unibody aluminium), working well with Yosemite. However don't think I'll upgrade to El Cap would rather have a new machine.

El Capitan out on September 30th.... maybe an upgrade?

I would go with the blissfully unaware type. I just found out Skylake for desktop were launch earlier last week. It is so silent nobody would have known. I wouldn't too if I hadn't googled for Skylake yesterday.

I guess you haven't been on any tech sites the last 6 monts then.

You can say so. I guess I burned out after I bought the 13" rMBP early this year. I was so glad that the waiting has ended. It was really fun reading new stuff until I realize I needed to upgrade and I know the new one is incoming 4-5 months down the road. It is hell.

January ???? I don't want to wait that long.

well, last week intel announced skylake chips of which only the ones traditionally destined for the 13" model has iris pro graphics.
if you look at the current 15" models, they either come with iris pro or with iris pro + dedicated card.

this driving me nuts. if i can produce skylake-u chips with iris pro, i can do so with skylake-h chips as well. my opinion is, intel is trying to make partners happy and drain stockpiles of old **** at the same time - at the expense of the end user.

i for one will not buy an 15" mbp with the crippled crap intel just released. that's why i think that, if there is an event in oct, they won't update the 15" model.
but i think there's enough stuff left to announce for an oct event: ipod, mba, 13" mbp, imac, mac pro (might lack skylake xeons as well).

remember, the pc market is in decline and i imagine intel having ********s of haswell/broadwell chips in stock they want to sell first...

btw, the iris pro 580 is 50% (!) faster than the previous generation and (by my estimation) about 3-4x faster than the 330m in the 2010 mbp.

since we're at it, does anybody know how much faster the iris pro 580 will be compared to the hd 530?
intel is creating just too much fragmentation.

Can you please cite your source? I really want to believe you, but first I need to know who exactly has the guts to go up against every other rumor out there.

listen to atp (no, the source is not one of the three hosts of the podcast). as with every rumor: take it or leave it.

but it starts to make sense for me given the source and the ******** intel is doing.

The iPod was updated already, the Air is at the end of its lifecycle with the Macbook out, 13" and 15" Pros are still labeled as new on the website, not sure how much of a demand there is with the Mac Pro and they haven't released an updated display to go along with it so I don't think they are too concerned. iMac can be a silent update if they're going with Broadwell.
ElCap is known to be released on 9/30, so they have no intention of doing an event centered around what it can do since some things were already mentioned at WWDC.
I'm guessing March event with redesigned Macbook Pro and updated iPad Air 3 with a lot of what the iPad Pro has.
Just guessing though.

I don't believe for a second that there will be a price drop. Sounds insane to me. Especially when the rMB is a more expensive and weaker version of MBA.

Having said that, I'll welcome any price drop on any Apple products any day:).

Damn... Talk about the struggle being real...

Keep riding that baby sport! Stay strong brother.

It was just a rumour and like many of the rumours posted on forums is most likely based on 99% blind speculation and 1% fact.

If Apple want to increase the volume of their Macbook sales price will be the biggest influencing factor. They make huge profits on just about everything that they make, so they do have the scope to make an adjustment if they choose to.

With the introduction of the dubiously named iPad Pro they may decide to completely change their lineup of laptops and with that the pricing.

What we aren't going to see are huge price drops, not Apple's style. We are most likely looking at $100 or $150 off some models if it were to happen. Given the fact that components like SSDs are dropping in price I don't think it's particularly 'insane' to hope that some of those cost reductions are passed on to loyal consumers.

You're right in that it's not entirely out of the realm of possibilities. Especially if they're dropping dGPU's.

But still, I can't see Apple doing it. The current 12" rMB and the13" MBP are already too close in price. The price of the 15" is a non issue because those who need it will shell out the cash for it.

Like I said, it's a welcome development for me but I don't think it's that likely.

If it's one thing Apple is milking, it's SSD upgrades.

Because it would kill a large chunk of sales between now and the release date.

Why do it with other products then? They're already allowing retailers to offer discounts as compensation for those that want to buy now so people must know why. We all know it's coming soonish. Might as well give us a bit more info.

Really does depend on what you mean by soonish.

Based on component availability we could be looking at March 2016 onwards. Is that soonish?

Do Apple even know what the products are likely to be? I'm sure they've got lots of prototypes but have they actually got a clear picture of the actual products to be launched?

BTW What other products do Apple reveal details about in advance?

No October/November is soonish. Apple TV for example.

Based on component availability we are looking at next year.

The Apple TV they announced is a new product to be sold in parallel with the existing Apple TV.

It's effectively a new product.

I think a big, perhaps the biggest, part of why they don't tell people when products are going to be updated is because it results in 100s of millions of dollars of what is effectively advertising.

Announcing ahead of time causes some chatter in the tech press. When it arrives you'd probably get a lot of "nothing new" to the marketplace (even when there are new elements) and a lot of meh, blah and yawning. "Events" are huge. Its talked about and discussed just about everywhere.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be one of the RAM slots - the one closer to the keyboard was faulty and having any RAM stick (either third-party or stock) would eventually cause the machine to crash and reboot. Try removing one and then the other and see if that helps. You can get 4GB on a single slot and that's still being sold as the lowest memory option on today's machines.
