Its either new Macbook Pro or first ULW windows notebook with a polaris/pascal GPU attached for me. I like Macs, but in no way do I need one, and I dont mind Windows.

Your move OEM's.

The front page is not helping our cause...

From the front page :
DisplayPort 1.3 has increased bandwidth, but Skylake-based Macs with Thunderbolt 3 will not support the spec and Intel's next-generation Kaby Lake processors on track for a late 2016 launch will not as well. Apple could opt to release a 4K Thunderbolt Display instead, but supply chain considerations make this unlikely, so the company's exact plans for the future of its standalone display remain to be seen.

What ??

I thought skylake MBPs (if ever released) would for sure be able to drive 5k diplays on a single TB3/USBC connection, not the case ?

  • #3 Stop arguing about dGPUs. Apple have allways made their PRO models for PRO users, and the Iris Pro in FinalCut will still make shorter renders than Adobe on any windows machine. If Apple wants to leave dGPU, there is still no point leaving Apple if you claim you're a "PRO" user.
TLDR; Shut up, and Apple will do what Apple wants!

Excuse me but dGPU is a thing as for example programming in CUDA wouldn't be a really nice feature for a MacBook Pro. You can't achieve anything similar on an Iris Pro.

Yet again we end up equaling "pro users" to photo and video editing only. Stop with that everybody already, please.

Unless you're a true gamer that plays AAA titles.
There are far more uses for dGPU beyond gaming. That's another cliche that must die.

This thread is incredibly hard to keep up with all of the time. I wake up every day and there is always six more pages!

Recap: the note from Ming Li Kuo was referring to calendar fourth quarter of year, so we suspect a possibility of MBP release in september/october.
Except for that, no big news.
Oh, and tons of people debating about "Kaby Lake in the next MBP!!!!1!", too bad it won't happen.

Kuo also predicted the retina MacBook would be released mid 2014 instead of early 2015. So is information seems to be accurate just not the dates. Is it possible he's talking about a 2017 product? Which computer is more likely to first adopt this touch OLED bar and Touch ID the MacBook or the MacBook Pro?

The Kaby Lake Chips releasing in 2016 will not be suitable for a Macbook Pro. Intel does not just release every variant of a processor family all at once. Skylake chips started coming out last year, but suitable chips for Macbook Pro have only been available for a few weeks. It is extremely likely that the same will happen with Kaby Lake.
I liked your old Avatar better. But your posts are still good.
