there's no banana fo scale to say how thin or thick this chassis, but remember that the display lid and the bottom case are still missing.
so it could be even thinner than the current model.
design cues from the 12" well, only usb-c ports and wider touchpad...and again, the display is still missing.

From the image that has the 3.5mm headphone jack (pending that is what the circle is) the top of the chassis is the top of the circle and the bottom of the chassis is the bottom of the circle... and from looking at my iPhone 6+, I'd say the new MBP is thinner than an iPhone 6+. And looking at the USB C ports in the images and comparing them to the 12" Macbook, it looks like the new MBP will just be a hair thicker than the Macbook.

@nicovh What's wrong with the first creature?!
It has a beautiful smile!

And don't forget, even Panda can be rude...

Everyone always freaks out and crucifies Apple for removing things (floppy, old Apple IO, optical drive) but years later we are all happy and realize what a good decision it was. I think dropping USB-A on notebooks will be similar. It honestly doesn't bother me much. I'll just get an adapter. Adding it to the cost of an over $2000 computer is immaterial.

Agreed. The adapters are already available for $14 (that I have seen) and that price will only drop as more third parties start producing them. If you have a USB-A hub, one adapter is all you'll need.

i'm trying to study as best as possibile those leaks.
first thing other than the big things, the space for the hinge, we may suppose that this chassis has been designed with the macbook's hinge in mind.
second thing, i've tried to scale the first picture to an actual size, usia the keyboard keys holes as reference, obviously it can't be really accurate since the pic is little grainy, but in the end it seems to be smaller, especially in the wide dimension, almost 1,5 cm less, so goodbye display frame?

That would be so nice if they really minimized the display frame!

I just had a thought and I think it's an interesting one. Apple it known for dropping things from their computers way before their competitors, and often times before their consumers are ready for such actions. So, why the hell are they still selling computers with 5400rpm spinning disks, especially when it's old tech and we are all ready for it to go the way of the dodo in our computers? This move just seems so anti-Apple when you consider all of their previous moves. I mean, it's not even like flash storage costs a lot anymore.

DEATH TO HARD DRIVES!

Yeah the hinge is for sure the same as the MacBook's hinge. As to guess for the besels, it's either as thick as the MacBook's or thinner.

And why is nobody talking about the colour of the chassis. Maybe its because of bad lighting, but to me that looks like Space Grey :) :) :)

Disappointed no SD Card Slot. Im curious if they have it on the 15". Otherwise pretty much what I would have guessed. Ill need to try the keyboard. I do not like the rMB's.

I certainly didn't "freak out". I am happy about it and applaud it as a brave decision.

It will however cause inconvenience. It isn't comparable to DVDs or even floppy disks. Virtually all peripherals being sold in 2016, things that will be used for a good few years, use USB-A. It will take time.

The cost issue is, as you point out, neither here nor there. It is the convenience factor though. If you are planning to interact with others, work in a team or deal directly with customers then you will, almost 100% of the time, have to carry an adapter just in case. You'll get some very funny looks when having to explain to a customer that their USB-A device and cable (99.999% of devices widely in use as of 2016 and it will be 90%+ of devices sold in 2017 at least) can't be plugged in because you left your adapter at home. That is an unusual thing really and will be inconvenient. That's the nature of design decisions though; not always simple or easy and no perfect answer.

I do think though that it perhaps needs such a bold move from Apple as otherwise USB-C just wasn't going to catch on in the mass market as it has a rapidly shrinking window of opportunity before everything becomes wireless. Hopefully some other manufacturers go all in too. It might be thanks to Apple that USB-C truly catches fire. If only they could use it instead of lightning.

Don't forget everyone, monoprice has USB-C to USB-A female adapters available and ready to ship today. I suspect these will be in short supply once the masses hear of the new design come the 13th. I have one, looks nice kinda stiff but I can't do anything with it lol.

i think that the part i will miss more will be the magsafe...i mean, even after 10+ years the magsafe is still a super idea and saved my mac many times.

I am curious to know what others here think will happen to TB1 and TB2 devices, docks, drives etc. Will they suddenly become very cheap as it has effectively been abandoned? It might be good for bargain hunters. Or will they keep on being used?

I have a TB2 dock and it has been great but unsure what I will end up doing when I move to TB3.

I agree. I still think it's possible though that it will be available via USB-C -let's see what Apple has come up with. Perhaps the "break point" will be in the connector at the end of the cable etc?
