Just suddenly wondering, will we have revamped wireless keyboards & trackpads some time soon to conform to the new sets of interface standards for OS X (smart function bar & TouchID)? I'm guessing they'd be bringing these to iMac some time soon which means we'll be having new keyboards & trackpads?

I don't know man...until I don't see that bar in action, I can't really say I "like" it. As of now, I'm just hoping that they offer a physical key option - that is until WWDC, where perhaps they will blow me away with it. But just until then, I'm very skeptical about it.

Congrats to those waiting 2+ freaking years for today , not only skylake but a redesigned MBP to go with it. Obviously the official reveal and having it in our hands will be the ultimate win but today was a good day. Chips are in the wild, chassis be leakin'. Our waits will be worth it.

I guess that I can't say that I like it either because we haven't seen anything from Apple. However, knowing that there are things that they could potentially do with it that I would like is reassuring.

I've been giving this OLED touch screen some more thought. For volume, they could just have one symbol. If you tap it, it will mute the audio. If you put your finger on the volume symbol and swipe to the left it will lower the volume. If you put your finger and swipe to the right it will raise the volume. The further you swipe, the higher/lower the volume is adjusted.

They could use a similar idea for screen brightness and keyboard backlighting brightness where each just has one symbol. For instance, if you tap the screen brightness symbol, it will turn the display off, and if you tap it again, it will turn it back on (and remember your setting). If you put your finger on the symbol and swipe to the left/right you will decrease/increase screen brightness. It would be the same for the keyboard backlight. Tap to turn on/off completely and swipe on the symbol to decrease or increase to your desire.

Play/Pause, Next Track, and Previous Track would each have their own symbols. However, if you tap and hold the next track and previous track it will activate secondary rewind and fast forward functionality. The longer you tap and hold the symbols on the screen, the further back/ahead you rewind/fast forward.

I'm omitting the Mission Control and Launchpad functionality because it's not very useful on the keyboard in my opinion, and it's far easier to activate these features via trackpad gestures. Perhaps Apple would make these customizable for the user where you can add things like Wifi and Bluetooth on/off toggles, or maybe they would add a Siri button in 10.12?

Perhaps these ideas of mine are really bad, I don't know. I am just trying to think of what Apple might do to make this an innovative, useful feature. I can't imagine you would just press/tap on them as if they were physical keys. That would make no sense.

Working on the leaked photos and I have found some intriguing details:
1. The trackpad is obviously larger, but seems using a different force touch mechanism from the previous NMB and MBP,
2. The hinge seems to be a bit wider (photo delusion?) A 14" display?
3. Slimmer, MacBook Air style cooling vent (evidence for a 15W 6x60 series?)
Nothing else significant have been found yet.

Other than that(feature recap):

Bigger keycaps(12" MacBook layout)

Dual Speakers, also 12" MacBook style

Empty space for touch bar(potential Touch ID capacitive sensor intergrated with the power button)

Edit: there is a stamp of Cult of Mac on it so it should be okay...

Redesigned Taptic engine? Seems plausible with the rumours suggesting apple is revising their Taptic engine.

Nice mix picture! My guess is that the larger trackpad is for Apple Pencil support.

From the other photos it looks like the keyboard will be as shallow as the 12" rMB. We can't tell for sure how deep the travel will be precise but the construction looks pretty much the same.

WOW!
Saw the news on the front page :)
Went to my favourite fred and *bang* 10 pages overnight, where there had been 'only' 5 on normal days ;)

Very exciting news. Although I don't quite know what to think about the absence of the normal usb ports. Until now I don't have any peripheral with usb c...

So, I guess this means that the bezels around the display are going to stay the same size unless they move to a 14" screen?

No based on what I saw happen to bezel size as computer display sizes grow, the bezel shrinks, obviously. The current bezel on the 12" rMB is thinner than the bezel found on the 13'" rMBP. So the new rMBP bezel will be significantly thinner than the rMB, considering they're using rMB display technology, which I'm 99% sure they will. Therefore the new bezel will be significantly thinner in comparison to the current 13" rMBP as well. Now I do not know if they will keep the same size for the computer, and instead put in a 14" option, or if they will retain the 13" option and instead decrease the laptop size.

Here is my thought to the 4 USB-C ports on the leaked photos: I hope apple truly jumps onto the Thunderbolt 3-USB-c ship and never look back.
OEMs have been shipping devices with Thunderbolt3 for about a year yet the majority of the Thunderbolt devices on the market are still Thunderbolt 1/2 compatible. Unless there are more prephrials out there using TB3 and sold at a lower price (until TB is natively supported by Cannonlake), the industry can not move forward. This is what Apple should do as the biggest Thunderbolt supporter and first adopter.

what if... this is the speculated 13" (or 14") rMB and not the Pro one?
Very unlikely, but hoping for Magsafe and SD slot on the new Pro. If not, it's probably good bye apple :/

The trackpad might look bigger just because the whole thing might be not as wide as the old MBP 13. Just assume the keyboard and the key caps have the same size as the rMB. That wouldn't leave a lot of space for bezels around a 14" or even 13" screen.

Okay. I wasn't sure because Dean Yu's photos above show the two placed on top of one another and they looked like they were the same size. Obviously I don't know what kind of image manipulation was used, so I wasn't sure.

However, it seems as if the computer itself is the same width, right? After all, each keycap is 17% larger and they managed to add speakers on each side of the keyboard. Knowing this, is it definitely possible for the dimensions of the MBP to shrink? I mean, it would have to, otherwise the only way to decrease the bezels would be to go up to 14".

No, it's not a wedge shape and has a different design, so it's definitely not a MacBook.

No worries, thought you meant I was freaking out. I am excited anyway!

And yes, that is the big risk with going all in for USB-C. But if nobody goes all in then we will never get economies of scale going and it will end up like TB1 and 2, i.e. niche devices. USB-C and TB3 should finally marry the best performance with the widest compatibility. It is up against the fact that most people don't like spending even a few dollars on a cable. Note that the 2016 flagship Samsung phone has stuck with micro-USB. So USB-C has a fight to get going but I hope it does.

Well, I'm freaking out!

..not over the ports mind...

Pretty obvious. The rumoured one is significantly larger even considering the keycap sizes are the same.
