If Apple has any good idea about a new feature, it has to spawn iOS and OSX in my opinion.
If the hardware would enable some new interaction between a possible MacBook and an iPhone, it makes sense to show them both in September.

The problem with iOS and macOS is the story they want to tell at WWDC.
Without the hardware it might be hard to have an interesting story to tell.

Look at the first Apple Watch introduction and the time that passed before it was available.

They have to be able to tell an interesting iOS and macOS story regardless of the hardware.
If the want to show something HomeKit related, it might be a tvOS feature, but even that would not be all that new.

They could introduce an Alexa kind of device that would be HomeKit, Siri and possibly something that interacts with Apple TV.

It has to be something that does not make the Apple TV obsolete and can be used with or without your TV/AppleTV combo.
This would also justify new API's that simply don't really fit in a TV or a phone.

At least this is what I think.

I don't think it is reasonable to expect them launch phone, watch and MBP at the same day or even month. What do they do after? Watch their stock lose cost with a year of no releases?

i also would love a new MBP, but apple wants that the new hardware to be compatible only with the new macos, otherwise they should release a beta El capitan by now for the new oled pad

if they dont have big updates for ipad....they make another august event with just 1 h long just for MBP? like March?
[doublepost=1464971453][/doublepost]or maybe they have big plans for the rest of mac...like mac mini and imac and mac pro , in this case another separate event will make sense !!

They could be waiting for Polaris. This seems pretty likely at this point since rumors are indicating that the new 15" will include it.

Agree with Polaris, but that doesn't mean they can't present them in June and start shipping once they got enough yeld, like they did with Mac Pro.

I'm not gonna quote your rest of the post, but in general yes, it's a terrible benchmark but people tend to use this "thinking method" instead of looking for other specs. And iGPU did change quite a lot from 5200 Iris Pro to 580, adding 50% more core units, and giving the 550 eDRAM which the 13" MBP lacked before, and that's a huge boost. Now let's talk about only 13": if they released it before 15" last year, why don't they do the same now? It can be a decision of showing a new design all at once, but again it has nothing to do with yelds or availability, since 13" doesn't have dGPU and Skylake-U has been there from January.

To your: "The idea that Apple is just being lazy, or doesn't care is a kneejerk reaction though. It's more likely to be a supply issue, development and production issue, or manufacturing issue."
My answer:
"As long as we cannibalise [ourselves], it’s fine"
Tim Cook

And another one:
“Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones,”
“I think if you’re looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?”
Tim Cook

And yes, by PC Cook means all kinds of computers/laptops, Macs included. That's why they are trying to make iPad Pro so "pro" for working, despite failing at that matter. So is it really a kneejerk reaction to think Apple has stopped caring so much about Macs (despite continuing updating/redesigning them), and really focussing only on iPads/iPhones/cars? Look at Mac Pro, they redesigned it, and its almost 3 years without an update, where they are far behind their workstations competitors.

iPhone 7 is potentially a very minor update. Makes sense to support it with decent additionals.
Also, watch interest has gone very cool recently. Not a big enough product yet.

I think there will be something else related to personal assistants and HomeKit.
I have no problem if the introduce macOS and iOS in September.
There's not really much they can change to justify a WWDC event.

Another piece of hardware with completely new API's would be interesting however.

The watch is not happening, in my opinion. It would not be better even with GPS and GSM.
Look at what Pebble did with their separate module.
THAT was smart.
A huge watch change is not.

If they do announce it at the iPhone event, I really hope it ships immediately - waiting that long for an announcement and then waiting even longer for a release would drive me crazy.

I honestly can't wait until the 13th to find out the truth. I can't go until September/ October without a laptop or justify spending $2500 on the current rMBP specs. It's either WWDC or another Windows laptop for me :(
i think based on the upcoming macbook +macos is worth the wait...
