The non-retina version is abysmal and absolutely not worth buying. The macbook air is a better buy if you want an inexpensive laptop. Otherwise, current retina macbook pros retina are perfectly fine despite an imminent refresh.
@Aditya_S If you mean the non-retina version, then it's not a terrible computer for 1k, but you would almost certainly want to replace the hard drive with solid state. If that's the kind of computer you really want then there's no harm buying it now since it will probably be discontinued in the near future.

Edit: I hadn't actually looked at it in a while, it hasn't received an update in almost 4 years, so I can't really recommend it, again it is likely to be discontinued soon.
I was talking about the retina model released in March of last year, not the 2012 model.

Yep, it's still a great computer, and it actually has a more up to date processor than the 15 inch model at this point! It'll still last a long time, though it might be worth waiting just over a week, just in case Apple does announce something at WWDC.
I'm not sure the 2016 model is for me as it doesn't have USB A or HDMI.

the 2015 model 13" is good for 99% of uses (even some medium level gaming). For me USB-C isn't a problem. I don't mind spending an extra 80 bucks for an adapter. Frankly, the current laptop is awesome no matter which way you look at it.

you have to adapt, because this is the future, i mean if the 2016 is not for you, then not the 2017..2018 etc will either

Yeah, not only are they letting people spend thousands of dollars on outdated hardware, but I'm also personally quite annoyed - free Beats wireless headphones would be really nice, but the offer will have expired by the time I can buy the 2016 MBP.
They obviously do it on purpose to encourage buying old hardware, the new machines would sell nevertheless.
Still, in my opinion they don't deserve selling any macs until they update. A year and a half since the last update is simply ridiculous and absolutely not serious for any hardware house. **** headphones.

I'm fine with software updates. Just give me something to look forward to in iOS rather than new Apple Maps features. Give us some of that sweet multitasking that the iPad has on iPhone. Give us some control center customization, redesign messages, something that we've been seeing in concept videos for years.

I don't own an Apple TV or Apple Watch yet, but I'm hoping the new software gives me even more of a reason to buy.

As for OS X, if we do get the MBP in the fall, I look forward to getting two brand new products in one at the same time. I'll wait.

Despite reputable sources saying otherwise, I'll be very surprised if there's no Mac hardware announced at WWDC. Just way too long between updates, even for Apple.

Also, with the leak we had last week (if legitimate) seems to indicate that nMPBs are already in production.

I guess we'll see in a few days!

If there's no Mac updates or announcements at WWDC, then it will be pretty clear the direction Apple is going. I may just get a 2015 15" with a killer deal from a 3rd party reseller then that will probably be my last Mac. There's simply no excuse with their vast amount of resources. Instead of building a fancy mothership campus they should be focusing on regularly updating and improving products. The fact is, Apple seems only worried about iPhones, iPads, and Watch bands. It makes no sense that manufacturers the fraction the size of Apple can regularly keep their computers updated but Apple can't.

You know it's bad when, as a person who owns two damn Mac computers, I can't recommend buying any new Mac right now to family and friends.

Coming from a PC background, how buggy are Mac design changes i.e. first year models?

Apples v1 products aren't more or less buggy than v2 products. However...

When Apple releases a v1 product, everybody is amazed at the new technology and can't find faults with it. But then Apple releases a v2 update with minor tweaks and improvements. Reviews inevitably say that the v2 is what the v1 should have been. Recent case in point: The 2016 rMB is little changed from the 2015. However, the small increase in memory speed has an outsized effect on benchmarks.

I'm glad I don't always post exactly my replies to this thread with regards to how the rumors affect me or are currently making me feel. It seems a huge amount of my posts would have been cleaned up :p

Anyway. I wish the machine I was on right now was a Retina, that would make this a lot easier to gauge for myself the ability to use my current machine even longer. I'm most likely to pick up a ThinkPad T460p and then whatever the new rMBP is down the line.

yes the 2016 rMB with the small memory speed, more battery life..but i think with canononlake will be the perfect ultrabook since even tb3 is by default

Anyone recall those reports of the macbook pros having a staggered launch? I still think they'll introduce the 13" and just have the 15" come later like last year.

Makes sense given the higher probability of the parts needed for the 13" being available for manufacturing. This is not the case for the 15" which depends on a steady supply of polaris GPUs from AMD.

Gurman was pretty sure about no new hardware (

Damn, it's hard not to get discouraged when Gurman says new MBPs aren't announcing this June. He's been pretty spot on and like he says on the interview, he doesn't release info unless he's sure it's true.

I'm in a pickle with a 6 year old MacBook Air. Been holding out for the new Pro's. So tempted to just give up and buy a current MBP.

With the rumours of an audio jack-less iPhone, are we likely to see a lightning port on the new MacBook to connect headphones or will the new iPhone be USB-C?

What if they do a spec bump of the current MBP's at WWDC, followed by the redesign in September?
It's not unprecedented: They did a similar thing when the retina's were released. Then the old unibodies became the 'cheaper' option (which they are still selling now....)

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that they won't have updated the MBP's for 16 months if the 'no MBP's at WWDC' rumours are true.

Wouldn't that be a bit sneaky though? People would hear that they released a new Macbook, buy one and then only a month or so later realise a somewhat radically new one has come out.

While it is very tempting to go another route at this point, I'm holding out. To remain string I must ask myself a couple of questions. Do I want Windows 10 at home? (I use both Mac and Windows daily at work) I can easily answer "no" to that. Do I want to give Apple 2016 dollars for their outdated machines? Nope!

Certainly there are many that require their own self-purchased machine for work, and for them there might be no option. And in that case it isn't a wrong decision to buy now.

I'll just slow down my heartbeat until my blood is as cold as Jony's aluminium stare, and play the waiting game.

I can't keep up.

No offense but this thread has turned into a cluster**** in the last couple of weeks. There use to be a much friendlier tone here. I think I'm just going to take a break from here until after WWDC.

Everyone just relax, get in touch with the universe, wait for june 13.

In my opinion, I don't care so much about Skylake. But I'm looking forward to TB3, thats the reason why I'm waiting. Possible I would rethink my opinion if Apple would offer the 16 GB version and 512 GB SSD for a more competitive price. But Apple as a money machine will never do that.

Yep, TB3 and possibly a refreshed look. The OLED strip sounds like a fun little thingy, but just like the new touchpad that tricks you into thinking it moves it sounds like it'll have little practical use.

I'm with you. I am currently using an updated (SSD and RAM) late 2008 13" unibody machine and have been waiting to upgrade for a while now.

I'm seeing what's on sale this coming week and if nothing stellar, I'll order the 2015 rMBP on educational discount after the keynote if no announcement.
