If no new rMBP is coming out in WWDC, I may be jumping ship, cannot wait until october to get a new laptop. I may even jump on the rMB.... Pleaseeee anounce the new rMBP!!!
I did that, I got the rMB. If you need to do anything CPU-intensive for work forget it, otherwise go for it. Personally I love this little machine, but compile times in Xcode are killing me.
If Apple doesn't release the new ones now, I'm getting a 13 inch MBP now with the intention of selling it when the new ones come out. I can't afford to be less productive anymore. It was a mistake not getting a Pro when I got the rMB.
And it's the 2015 version. But man I love this form factor (Yes, even the keyboard).

Haha, nice troubles. I have the same problems, I prefer a 15 inch MBP but the current one is really overpriced. In addition, I thought about the rMB, but the 12 inch display is too small and the performance is equal to zero. The MBA is not really expensive but the screen is killing me. I don't want to waste money for such a machine :( As a developer I have to wait for the new rMBP 15' and I am sure that I will be really satisfied.

One week away, let the countdown begin!

meanwhile, on MacRumors Buyers' Guide...

retina MBP: 384 days without update
non retina MBP: almost 1460 days without update (weee!)
MacBook Air: 455 days without update
Mac Pro: 900 days without update (weee!)
Mac Mini: 599 days without update

and last but not least...
Thunderbolt Display: 1726 days without update!
Other than the Air and the non-Retina, which are effectively dead product lines, the rest are a disgrace. Look to add another 100 days if we see nothing next week.

I know that; still it's seriously weird that they are still there, confusing users and costumers.
That's one of the biggest problem with Apple right now. It seems like not even they have a clear idea on where their product line is going...

The back to school promotion ends September 5, 2016, odds on new rMBPs before then?

I'm not optimistic. I originally thought B2S would bring new MBPs to life. But given that they are literally giving away $200 headphones, I doubt they would run that same promotion for brand new MBPs. Of course, they could still introduce the new MBP and just exclude it from the promotion.

I think it is possible that all the MacBook hype will have to wait until September and will be a special release that incorporates some iOS functionality.

Maybe Apple will just introduce some other device category for HomeKit that connects to your Apple TV and has voice recognition.

This would justify new API's for WWDC without actually changing the Mac lineup or the iOS features.
The iOS part could simply be delayed until iOS 10 is avaiable to incorporate the functionality of using this new device with a phone.

Wild guess: No MacBooks, a new HomeKit Assistent device, no visible iOS changes until September.
Maybe they use NFC for other things and this is the new feature Tim Cook meant to talk about.

If you can, look for a used one. Just picked up a 2014 rMBP for a smashing price, and equally I saw a maxed out 2015 model for around half the RRP whilst only being a few months old.

I'd like to do this but I'm not feeling it with eBay or Craigslist. Is there a thread on here somewhere that deals with the best way to get a quality used Mac? Everyone's always talking about resale but a lot of us are clueless on how, and how not to buy a turkey.

Here's what I don't get - you have retailers like B&H doing some big price drops on the 15" MBP. I wonder if it's just graduations or maybe countering the headphone promotion or they know something will drop? I'm kind of torn - they're selling cheaper than Mac with edu discount... Which doesn't make sense. Why would you allow a retailer to undercut you?

Those price cuts have been around since at least january. the retailers are just as much in the dark as we are - hence, they drop prices in the hopes of killing their existing stocks in time for the new models to show up, should they show up.

It's be hard to delay announcing the changes, even if they're just cosmetic, to iOS until September. Even design refreshes need a long beta-testing period, and it's unlikely that an update wouldn't be accompanied with new OS features for developers to integrate with their apps, which would also need to be updated and tested.

They may well announce an expansion of HomeKit or even a new 'hub' which controls it, but almost certainly not at the expense of announcing iOS 10.

So assuming the nMBP gets the OLED bar which, probably, will be the visual component for Siri (and more).
Then again, OS X tends to become MacOS with more iOS features and stuff.

So my conclusion/idea would be that Apple releases a complete new lineup in a September event (nMBP, apple Watch and iPhone) with the new OS together.

Something like: speak to the watch and say "write a new mail on my computer to..."

Maybe there is a possibility of having a brand new event in say august exclusively for Macs? It would seem sensible since there wouldn't be much time in the september event and would still be in the back to school period.

How far in advance does Apple announce events?

Apple show off the new version of OSX at WWDC, which if it includes Siri and Touch Id, etc would need new hardware. I don't think they'd leave it any later.

It reminds me of back in March when we were all excited about the possibility of new MBP's... but instead we got the worst Apple live event of the decade. Big expectations for WWDC!!
Because of my work schedule I have never been able to watch one live, until that event......wanna talk about disappointment...
