I'd like to do this but I'm not feeling it with eBay or Craigslist. Is there a thread on here somewhere that deals with the best way to get a quality used Mac? Everyone's always talking about resale but a lot of us are clueless on how, and how not to buy a turkey.

Yeah im also interested in this. Im done with craigslist and ebay trying to sell my macbook. hell ebay takes around 13% cut from a sale. Anyone know of a good site to sell my perfect condition macbook pro locally?

Do they have proof of this, or is this just an echo of what we have been hearing for months?
I believe they do. They do not have specifics, apart from the information about the GPUs in laptops and other hardware from Apple.

>cMBP
>rMBP

Can we stop this stuff?
Why don't you just type it fully.

There's not much of a reason to say rMBP anymore. In the off chance you're talking about the non-retina version, just say so, or say classic MBP.

I never understood "nMBP" either. It should be pretty clear from context if you're talking about a future model. If not, just say new MBP.

The back to school promotion ends September 5, 2016, odds on new rMBPs before then?

If all the reports are to be believed there will be no hardware announcements at WWDC, which means the Ming-Chi Kuos comments were likely referring to the fourth quarter of the calendar year which puts the release dates as October or later.

So assuming the nMBP gets the OLED bar which, probably, will be the visual component for Siri (and more).
Then again, OS X tends to become MacOS with more iOS features and stuff.

So my conclusion/idea would be that Apple releases a complete new lineup in a September event (nMBP, apple Watch and iPhone) with the new OS together.

Something like: speak to the watch and say "write a new mail on my computer to..."

If Apple announces a new computer at WWDC, but it will not release it until 3 September, Apple can expect sales figures on rMBP near to zero units.

You see the irony of asking for local websites without specifying your locality right? :D
There might be a Facebook "buy and sell" group for your area? You could search on Facebook for "<<your town>> buy and sell".

@golosin2
Agree, they won't advertise new computers AND not sell them immediately.
But I was talking about the september/fall release possibility: announcing and releasing at the same day or shortly after.

Because of my work schedule I have never been able to watch one live, until that event......wanna talk about disappointment...
TBH March shouldn't be even dignified with the title of 'event'. It was meant to be a momentous moment of paying homage to the old campus and awaiting the opening of, what is essentially Steve's biggest legacy: the UFO campus.

A Mac announcement to mark that momentous occasion along with the upcoming 40th Bday and 10th anniversary would have been great. But instead they filled it with product sub groups and watch bands..

I found it disgusting to see the smug execs sitting in front row clapping like seals.

I don't think this can happen, as they would miss the opportunity to sell new equipment to students.

But, talking about Apple, anything is possible.

I was actually struggling to remember the point of having that event...errr I mean rambling press release. Then it hit me the revolutionary iPhone SE was unveiled to a similar applause by the crowd

Turn the telescope around. Are most students going to hold off on buying a MBP until the new one is released? And miss out on the chance for free Beats? I don't think so. Apple is perfectly happy selling them older product at lower margins.

The sound of 1 hand clapping.....

How cheap will they be on eBay when the grownups start selling them to recoup the money that they overpaid for the computer?

During the March Event, I always had the sensation to be like this, just changing "hypnotoad" with "iPhone" or "Wristbands"

All glory to the iPhone SE!

I'll try and make a thread soon, obviously I can't be held accountable IF anything does go wrong, but my few golden rules are to always take someone with you, meet in a public place, check serial number against machine and then applecare, ask for receipt and if everything looks ok, pay cash, shake hands and enjoy your new mac!

Are there any numbers on what students prefer to buy? I don't think most of them would go pro.
It's a question of money and their needs.

September 13...

What kills me is that I am not a "pro" user in any sense of the word, I update idevices regularly but computer on an 5-8 year basis. I cannot justify the purchase of a device that I will keep for that long that will not drive a 4K display with a single port at 60 fps.....I also refuse to purchase a device that contains a spinning drive, so iMac is out given a minimum $500 for a "reasonably" sized ssd. The rMB would have been good if it came with TB3, but while the processor would be okay for my needs, it is not a 5 year device. My 2008 MB is experiencing the symptoms of a dying computer. I am at the point where I don't use it if I don't have to because I can feel it's days are numbered. Finally, I refuse to spend 2k on a rMBP that is outdated and therefore woefully overpriced.

Unrelated, besides all the nonsense of some regular posters who I won't mention since they are currently unable to reply, my favorite part of this particular thread is that I have learned A LOT about the internals and how they work in concert with each other for different needs. I also probably am driving myself to the point of insanity from this thread, I think my friends and significant other are to the point where if I say apple or computer they immediately zone out. Thanks for that guys.

Fingers crossed for WWDC I think, like watching sports, I won't watch live to increase the chance they announce something good and I miss it.

btw I live in Chicago.

Can't we not just cancel this thread? It's all the same here. Maybe we start over after August. I'm out for now. See you later this year! Cheers!

September 13...

Only anecdotal evidence but the only students I know have Macbook Pros (some retina some not). None have just a standard MacBook.
