P.S. I'll start. My bet is on March, or WWDC.

I would bet on Q1 2016 for an update.

Even if 1 year (Since the last update) could possibly feels like a decade (Thanks Einstein) for someone in need (As I am).

But, but..by 2026 we will have BurgerLake in a 1 Angstrom process node (0.1nm, remember that physics don't matter in this forum), which will be vastly superior to Skylake. Apple is DOOMED if this is the case, and Microsoft will dominate the world with its entirely *innovative* Surface Book. /s

The question of if there is going to be a skylake rMBP this year was answered at IFA Berlin last September (hint: the answer is no). [...]

Sadness. This is the worst wait ever.

Don't be sad. You'll get over it, don't worry. In a month you will be over this tempestuous stage and proceed to the next one. This next stage is called: Not giving a f**k (That's the stage im currently in). Get distracted with with something else. I have heard Macramé is nice. Im just certain about one thing, when the Skylake rMBP gets announced, the credit card will be ready.
We should form like an AA group to help those in delusion and struggling with patience. Or at least refer them to a shrink, that helps too.

So, is it pretty apparent that we'll see an event in Q1 2016 for: rMBP, MB, MBA, Mac mini, Mac Pro, and the Thunderbolt Display? With a $300 price difference and the absence of so many ports, I can't see the MB taking over for the MBA for a few years. I'm hoping the MacBook Airs and Pros get a nice re-design/refresh with Skylake, color selections, new keyboards (a better version of the MB one), and Touch ID. I'm also wondering when Siri will be introduced to OS X.

For me, it's really one of the worst wait of everytime (well, except that for Half Life 3...).
I'm actually working with and old 2009 MBP 13" Intel Core 2 Duo, that still does its job, but it's getting really hard working with heavy stuff.
I'm looking forward to buy a new Mac, but at the same time I don't want to buy a computer with a 2 years old CPU, which is going to update in 4-5 months.
C'mon Apple, do the magic and release a new rMBP!
i know, it's not gonna happen...

Edit : I almost forgot.
Where is our friend bfreek that claimed that he had a source inside apple, (conviently named *the source*) claiming that they were releasing a skylake rMBP this month. LMAO. *Oh and remember that everytime you want to add credibility to your statement you HAVE to use asterisk as parentheses*

Well, you know the answer - hopefully you knew the answer back when he was pulling that nonsense out of dark and unsanitary places.

One positive from the iMac refresh is that they at least have started using Skylake CPUs, and the MBP is likely to get the screen update from sRGB to DCI P3 too. Apple Cinema Display 21/27" update not likely till a TB3 mac comes out i'd imagine.
So MBP or Mac Pro - which gets the update first?

I did know, I just enjoyed teasing him :D. His best post was this one though:
next week, folks. don't buy.
That was last week. LMAO

On another note, it seems like many here are waiting for Skylake to replace their 2009 laptop. I also have an already dying 2009 core 2 duo notebook with a 5400rpm spinner hard drive (50MBps read and write speeds) .
Skylake 14nm down from 45nm,
PCIe NVMe SSDs >2GBps, ~2500MBps
Increased battery life,
Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps USB C ports with eGPU support
Cooler, thinner
Retina Display
AC Wi-Fi 1300Mbps
Bluetooth 4.2
and many other features that I will omit to keep the post small.

This one will be one hell of an upgrade. We 2009 owners will see MASSIVE increments, many in the triple and 4 digits percentages. On the storage side alone I will see a 50x speed increase, and don't get me started on the CPU and GPU. This is the reason why I don't upgrade that often. CPU advancements have slowed significantly after Sandy Bridge (2011). The wait has been long but it will be worth it.

Don't know.Ok we have Skylake's cpu on Imacs but without Thunderbolt 3 or ,at least, one usb-c,that's why i'll skip this refresh.I'll do the same with Macbook pro if lacking with Thunderbolt 3.

One thing not mentioned often enough: even if the update (whenever it will be) will not bring some of the features or not the performance boost one hoped for, it will still make the "old" machines available for less money (Not from Apple directly but from the resellers). So if you are not in desperate need of a new mac you win either way, either by saving money or by getting a better value for about the same money.

resellers (from my exp. in Poland) want to earn extra cash and make small rebates (4%-12%) from the price which is equal to apple.com or a bit higher. Not worth to wait...

Signs you've been waiting a while - when your iPhhone has a better benchmark than your MBP...

Last time RAM was replaceable?
Maybe they'd make 32GB as an optional extra for the 15"?
If they can make a buck out of it Apple will offer it.

As long as the components are available and they can fit, the options for memory are likely to extend to the maximum possible. Now that users don't have the option to upgrade memory themselves it would be a mistake not to cover all the available options.

This. It's nothing to be proud of, but you know you need an upgrade when your iPhone/iPad scores better in several benchmarks. The current GPU on my laptop scores 25.6 GFlops in compute while the iphone/ipad is now around 230~290 GFlops (iPad Air 2, imagine the iPad Pro with the A9X). The Iris Pro GT4e is expected to have 1152 Gflops in compute performance. So on the GPU I will experience a 46x increase.
Apple offering 32 GB will depend on what memory they use. Strangely they decided to use DDR3 on the latest 27" iMac with Skylake when Intel specifically said that DDR3 might damage the CPU and only DRR3L and DDR4 could be use because of their low voltage. If they use DDR4 they could offer 32GB of RAM. The new Dell XPS 15 offers 32GB in only two modules. Correct me if im wrong but I think the rMBP has two modules worth of soldered chips on its logic board. If they use DDR4 then its very well within the realm of possibility to offer 32GB given the higher density DDR4 has compared to DDR3, and if they get rid of the thermonuclear reactor (dGPU) they might even have more space to play with.

Wanted to ask you all this I've never had a MAC and wanted to try the Macbook Pro. Wanted to be able to load Windows on it and do some light gaming. They have a refurbished macbook pro 15" with M370X for $2119.00. Will the price for the Mackbook Pro 2016 Skylake be more? Should I hold out and wait? $2119.00 isn't bad of a price just don't want to wait for Skylake and find out its 2500+. In your opinion should I wait or purchase the refurbished? Also, I found the mid 2014 model with the 750m for 1849.00. Just wasn't sure on which one I should get or if I should wait.

Me personally I would get the mbp with M370X. Just because its new and support for external 5K monitor and force trackpad.

And most of everyone guesses, the skylake mbp would be in feb/mar next year, if you can wait then wait. If not the AMD mbp is a powerful machine too.

Thanks Tankmaze for your honest opinion if I do wait will it been a significant price difference?
