We need to start a campaing to get the word out that the expensive Macbook Pros are more than a year old. Maybe go around to random Apple stores and tell the customers about the old hardware? #oldhardware on Twitter?

Or start a petition on change.org and get people to sign

Nothing anyone does will change anything now. I wouldnt expect the books unless Sierra releases.

Yeah, if that keynote showed one thing, it was that Mac is "second" (more like 4th) to iOS (not that we didn't already know that). It makes sense for Apple to place more emphasis on mobile tech, considering that's the future, and laptops and desktops are not. The iPad Pro shows the extent to which they tried to create a laptop/tablet hybrid (albeit without the desktop OS). I wonder if Jobs would've wanted that--he certainly seemed to be virulently opposed to a stylus for the iPad at one point. But that at least showed an attempt at maybe "weaning" some users off the laptops.

Though with talk of the MBA being retired, it's interesting to me that people are now implying there will be two laptop models (MBP and MB) and three desktop models (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iMac)? Why have more models of the least relevant computer form? That's why I still partially expect the Mac Mini and/or Mac Pro to be dropped soon.

He was opposed to styluses being used a primary input method (as stated during the original iPhone intro at Macworld 2007), but I don't think he was opposed to styluses in general because they have their uses, especially for designers.

"Because Apple is not meeting my needs, they are doomed as a company and I'm going to pick up a XPS/RAZR/HP instead!!"

Bleh. My wife and I will bother be getting new 13" MBPs when they hit the market, but overall I'm happy with the keynote. This was a huuuuge update for iOS and macOS. Siri looked pretty damn useful on PC, and Apple Watch unlocking your macOS device just makes me want to use them all together. We don't know what a new file system means just yet, but I assume there's a benefit over what we have now otherwise why bother? Maybe one day devs will be able to easily port their iOS app over to macOS with Swift. That would be killer. There's a lot of new possibilities that came with this, but it's up to 3p developers to make it happen. Apple just gave them some awesome new tools.

Apple doesn't need another Jobs in charge - a my way or the highway center of everything in the company. That's needed to turn the company around, not maintain and move forward when successful. Cook is a visionary like Jobs, but seems to let his talent make decisions and bring better things out of them. Long term growth cannot be sustained under 1 person's direct control like with Jobs. They both seem to want to make lives better with technology, which is the important part. I think the Breath app is a great example of this. It's simple, not really a huge selling feature, but will enrich a lot of lives.

The girl I spoke to in an Apple store in the UK told me she wouldn't buy a MBP now either, d'oh.

As far as I understand it, there are two types of Mac users here:

1. Those who use the Mac primarily for hardware. They can take or leave macOS (for the most part).
2. Those who use the Mac primarily for software. They still like the hardware, but macOS is their priority.

Those who fall into Camp 1 can switch to the XPS because the software is not their priority. Those who fall into Camp 2, of which I am a member, might buy an older Mac, but most of us want to wait for the new one.

I thought many of the updates announced were pretty good too, just some of them were gimmicky and they spent far too much time on it. MacOS seemed more like a footnote.

"With raw performance somewhat comparable to a GT 940M, the Iris Graphics 580 is generally unable to play most games in 1080p at high quality settings. Users will have to settle for 1080p on low settings or 720p on medium settings for decent frame rates on modern 3D titles.
Newer and more demanding titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider are essentially unplayable on anything but lower resolutions and settings. RTS players, however, can enjoy the fact that titles likeDOTA 2 and Starcraft 2 will play well on higher graphical settings while maintaining averages above 30 FPS.

Note that certain titles would not launch at all even after upgrading the graphics driver. We tried running Batman Arkham Knight and Doom, but both would crash immediately before even hitting their splash screens."
Told ya ;)

"Because Apple is not meeting the needs of 10 million of their customers and is not upgrading by long time his entire computer line, instead focusing over Minnie Watch Display, Emoji 3X bigger and making a demo to show dumb users for 45 minutes how to send messages, they are doomed as a company and I'm going to pick up a XPS/RAZR/HP instead!!"

I've made an agreement with myself. If the MacBook Pro (€1649) gets a price drop that makes it cheaper than €1500 I will most likely buy it...
The XPS 13 is so tempting, but with siri coming to the mac I really want to try it!

and waiting, and waiting, and waiting... . . . . .

Im hoping they come sometime this summer, with the Barclaycard no interest summer offer for 18 months.
At least I still have a very functional computer, although the person I am selling it to isn't being nearly as patient.

Or stop being ridiculous and find a worthy cause to start a petition about?

Looks like this new is going unnoticed, but it's really interesting.
For those expert: any chance we could see Optane in the next MBP?
How could we find hints of it in the MacOS release?
If the next MBP will sport Polaris, TB3, Skylake HQ, terraced batteries, a better display and Octane technology...
well, that's going to be really a monster!
Please Apple, make it happen.

...but that would require some kind of waistband device in order to be wearable...icummerbund anyone?

Polaris 11 GPU has 16 CU's(1024 GCN cores, and more than 2 TFLOPs of compute power). The core clocks are remaining to be confirmed.

Due to be released later this month (June 2016)

AMD Radeon RX 480M Performance Benchmarks Revealed – Polaris 11 With 35W TDP
AMD also showed us a glimpse of their Radeon RX 480M laptop GPU in the presentation. According to the slide shown by AMD, the Radeon RX 480M is a very efficient laptop chip with a rated TDP of just 35W. Benchmarks posted by Tweakers show that the Polaris 11 chip scores 4070 points in 3DMark Firestrike against 3500 points of the Radeon R9 M280 (82W). In 3DMark 11, the RX 480M scores 7200 points against 5700 points on the R9 280M.
