680MX = 2012. So, faster than a 4 year old computer...I'm unsure if that's something to really be proud of? >.<
Well it is. It was desktop 28 nm 1536 CUDA core monster otherwise known as GTX 770 on desktop. The architecture was Nvidia Kepler.

So yeah, there is a lot to be proud of.

Err, scuse me, but why do you think UK law is any better than EU law, quite the opposite from observation: nearly everything in the UK is sold with 1 year warranty, whereas all the EU countries have 2 years.. (inc. by default now, due to EU law inheritance, Switzerland)

I'm not really a legal expert but I heard of people making claims using the UK consumer rights act which goes far beyond the default warranty in the UK or EU. I wasn't aware of the 2 year default warranty in the EU but consumers in the UK still have the option to request a claim through the consumer rights act which gives them 5-6 years from the date of purchase depending on the region (Scotland has 5 years).

http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/

Obviously this doesn't equate to the same level of 'no-questions-asked' service that one may receive through Apple Care or the default warranty but it does seem that the window of opportunity to claim for faulty hardware is much wider than EU.

Also remember that your statutory warranty is with the retailer, not the manufacturer (though that is the same if you buy directly from Apple).

Yes! Thank you, this caused many confusions for people buying through eBay :/ even so, I heard the process is difficult but I guess it's better than nothing?

Are there any solid alternative to 15" Skylake MBP in Windows world? Apple disappointed so much, been waiting for this from Jan. Looking at the current Apple software bugs, I feel Apple needs to adopt to release software quickly as they would anyway have bugs - it will at least minimize wait time.

I think there is the Dell Precision workstation 5510 that comes to my mind that's Windows.

I'm considering these alternatives to the 15" MBP:

  • Thinkpad P50
  • HP ZBook Studio G3
  • MSI WS60

On the Thinkpad and ZBook I can get a Skylake Xeon! I doubt this CPU be used in the new MBP.

I can also get matte displays (can't stand glossy). User replaceable parts. 32GB RAM (64GB on the P50). An Nvidia dGPU so I can run CUDA. OpenCL is a nice but it doesn't have support in machine learning. And they all have better cooling than the MBP.

The MSI WS60 is what the BOXX SLM is based on.

My workflow used to be MBP + Xserves, but with Apple discontinuing the Xserve I had to move to Linux servers. Switching now from my MBP to Linux will be much easier. Thanks Apple.

An anorexic laptop in this class is not important to me because I use two laptops: one powerful and one light (MBA). I would be so happy with a workstation class 15" MBP the size of the PowerBook G4 but that's not going to happen.
Thinkpad P50 does not and unfortunately will not have configurations with Intel Iris (Pro), yes it has dGPU but Iris (Pro) is not only the best iGPU, it also helps CPU perform better. Also it only has 1 Thunderbolt 3 port.
HP ZBook Studio is, from pure theoretical POV, the best spec possible. It's very small, allows Xeon with Intel Iris Pro, has 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports. However allegedly its fans are noisy as hell. :( I've not yet visited a brand shop to check this myself but unfortunately this info is throughout the internet.
Also consider Dell Precision 15 7510. Its weight is awful. I mean it's quite ok considering its power but comparing to rMBP or P50 or and even more - Zbook Studio - it's awful. But specs are good - Xeon with Iris Pro. Don't know about the noise.

We have 5 years in Norway, but that doesn't cover things like batteries or things bought alongside the computer. However, if the hard drive goes bloopy after 4.5 years I only have to make a call to get it fixed. Shipping is usually paid for, and if they can't fix it I get a new drive or a new laptop. (Usually a new drive, far cheaper!)

claimed he had a *source* who had information about the MBP during September of last year.

i still have that *source*. and the *source* was wrong because, oh my, there's more departments involved than just engineering. the mbp was signed off by engineering early this year. whatever is going on and why apple is delaying the launch is as puzzling for me as to everybody else - especially, knowing they sit on it with skylake chips. if they'll release in sept/oct, it'd be an old chip. i don't know what the **** is going on.

btw, the "oled touch bar" is a real thing.

Well that is a bombshell. Any other exclusive revelations ?

I guess a 14" non pro MacBook is still possible pre-fall since it doesn't require the Sierra specific OLED stuff. Still seems really unlikely though.
Why would Apple need to wait for Sierra to release a MBP with an OLED bar? They didn't wait for the next major OS X release when they introduced the MBP with Retina display or Macs with Force Touch trackpads.

Apple was too innovative with the retina MacBook pro released in 2012, if that makes any sense. Having a computer with that aesthetic and power in an ultrabook-like fashion led Apple ahead of the curve. At the same time, the company seemed so extremely lazy with

Wanna verify that your source is credible with the mods? Or are you Serban 2.0?

He said there was a whole load of stuff coming at the March event that never materialised. Thunderbolt Display being one of them IIRC

Anyone else who was disappointed with iOS10/macOS offering? It is almost tempting me to go back to Win10 laptop/Android phone, which although have their shortcomings in some areas, seem well ahead of the curve than Apple now.

Seriously considering just waiting for th Zenbook 3/transformer pro 3 or the Surface Pro 5 / Surface Book 2 now.

Don't even try having him verified, actually, Serban is his offspring.

Doesn't hurt to wait and compare those laptops, even if/when the new MBPs come out. Options are always good.

Otherwsie knows as gtx 770 desktop monster (lol :D ) has 1.45x higher clock than 680mx ;)

So it's pretty much official, they're not going to launch new macbook pro until after back to school. They're giving $300 off and free wireless beats headsets. They're making this event a liquidation and an incentive not to return for back to schoolers (sale goes through Sept 05). So new release has to be some time after October 05 (for 30day return policy).

Makes sense. Credible rumours were saying Q4. Release a few weeks after announcement at mid September iPhone event presumably.

For the old-timers --- dontcha just miss Kormac sometimes?

Serban himself probably!!!!!
[doublepost=1466226748][/doublepost]So the last time I took my laptop (non-skylake) I noticed that after the repair the auxiliary port wasn't aligned correctly. So I took it in and they had to open it up and re-align it. Now that it is re-aligned one of the screws that they put back in on the bottom of the bottom case is too long, they keep on screwing up. What's up with Apple lately?

Well, my Skylake MacBook Pro Watch is over. Westeros will never be the same. I just picked up a Surface Pro 4 (i7 / Iris 540 / 512 SSD / 16GB RAM). So far I'll digging it quite a bit. The hardware has matured and from what I read the software drivers have improved nicely as well. That hybrid cooling system is pretty cool and seems to work perfectly. Plus now I can draw on the go in Adobe with excelent mobility. I'll happily wait for a redesigned MacBook Pro 15-inch in this awesome device. Then I'll own both, an ultra portable and a workhorse, which is actually a pretty ideal setup. Apple can now take all the time it needs with Skylake MacBook Pros - all the more time for me to save up for a killer 1TB configuration.

In my case I wanted both a Surface Pro and a MacBook Pro. Normally I would buy the bigger 15-inch MacBook first. However, even though I know Haswell isn't that far behind Skylake power wise, I just could not generate purchase enthusiasm for the older tech. I was like, "well I can just buy this first and wait it out."
[doublepost=1466230424][/doublepost]Indeed I was tempted by the 2016 MacBook, but personally I know I would want more CPU power than that. Also, I feel the the Surface Pro 4 had a much more usable webcam and a better screen aspect ratio for a smaller screen.
