I can wait until September or if is necessary until october and then start to study with a new MacBook.

The only option, if you really want new Macs, is to wait till then. If they don't release it by October, I'd consider buying another laptop (not a Mac one). Not only because you already need one to work with, but because Apple will have confirmed they don't give a single f*ck about Macs anymore.

I still have some relative hope and pacience , because i really want a new mac and the possibility of a redesign is a great chance to get a machine for years. I understand your angry final words hahaha, believe me.

All of you people are delusional. Apple isn't waiting for Kabylake... they're skipping it and going straight to Cannonlake.

No way. Its AMD Zen or bust!

This waiting is freaking me out. I'm a college student and i need a new laptop because my 2010 macbook pro 15 died a few months ago (it can be use for some very light tasks, but most of tasks made a random reboot). I don't want to but the current model because of the overprice. I can wait until September or if is necessary until october and then start to study with a new MacBook. I just want a laptop for the 5-7 years to come!

If you really NEED something, you just gotta bit the bullet, man. Cut your losses and buy a refurb/used, then flip it once the new model comes out. You'll certainly eat $$$ in the process, but at least you got a functional computer in the meantime. Say you lose $100, that's nothing compared to months of agony using a nearly completely broken computer.

I have tapped out after waiting around 6 months and bought an XPS 9350. I am not sure I will get the new MacBook when it's out if I am honest and might just skip to the Surface Book 2 once it is out (or a new XPS13). Despite the spying hysteria, I think Windows 10 is at a good place for all around use, performance and Dev work so will maybe switch away from Apple altogether and just use Win10/Linux. Personally Sierra looked pretty dull so don't feel I will miss macOS too much.

My quest for the ultimate USB-C USB 3.1 Gen II enclosure continues.

OyenDigital comes out with their offering, suspiciously no single drive solution (I suspect that'll happen later this year) but an intriguing bus powered dual drive solution riding USB-C. I suspect this is the first of its kind, atleast that I can find using their ASMedia chipset to achieve over 800 MB/s read/writes (812 MB/s reads and 862 MB/s writes) using two Samsung 850 SSDs.

For $99 bucks+ssd costs, that's amazing. What a time to be alive.

Im seriously considering buying the current 13". It still has

Magsafe
USB-A
SD-Card

Now the new one will feature (based on leaks etc)

no Magsafe
no USB-A
USB-C ports
Oled Bar instead of function keys

So, no idea if that Oled bar is going to be a killer feature or yet another gimmick. From a performance point of view, i don't think Broadwell/Skylake will be that major game - save maybe for the upgrade iGPU.

With the Beats (i qualify for student program), the current one will be even 200 Euros cheaper (resale value, don't need these).

Someone convince me why i should stay in this waiting thread :)

Please don't do this to yourself. We've both been in this thread since early on.
  1. You've waited this long - at least 10 months, probably more. There's likely 3 months to go. Is giving up now really the smartest thing to do?
  2. You'd be paying top dollar/euro/etc. for outdated tech, that's about to be replaced by something newer for the same price. USB-A is fine, but the future is USB-C. If you want a future-proof device, you need the redesign. Also, once the machines are released, your machine will be old and will have cost you money (because if you'd waited, you'd have gotten a much newer/hopefully better machine for the same price).

Is it sad to say that I'll be slightly disappointed if Apple doesn't introduce these SSD's in the new MacBook Pros?

If I'm waiting this long, I want a speed demon :D
IMHO it's more likely they'll take PM971. The gains from further doubling SSD speed are quite negligible at the moment (and we haven't even seen QD1 performance and latency stability for SM961 yet) and we all know what Johny Ive wants... Anyway, even if they take SM961, they will solder it.

have you tried cracking up the fans to 4-5000rpm with smcfancontrol? mine lost his first life due to overheating, the only way not to make it crash was that (then changed the whole logic board at an apple store for 400+€). it may not be the most pleasing to use, but it could make it trough, 15" 2010mbp are tough guys :)

edit: i still control the fans by myself, i have the lowest rpm set to 2400-2600 and i raise manually to 4-6000 when i'm at heavy tasks because i don't trust apple's thermal management anymore, it's too damn conservative!

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm pretty much torn my self, I'm working off an old Asus with win10 right now and it's really not that bad...

I feel like macs are like Mac and cheese, you know no matter how you make it it always tastes great and it always reliably fills you up.

But Windows is like a gourmet dish, it has potential to be absolutely amazing if you know exactly what's you're doing and have the exactly the right ingredients, but if you don't then it's just 'meh'

Which brings me to the point... Do I want a 'good' reliable experience or do I want to take a chance for a potentially great performance that's something I haven't been able to answer so far :(

Kinda hoping for a Microsoft branded laptop, like a Microsoft XPS

To me Macs are like pizza. Even bad pizza is better than no pizza. And pizza is ESSENTIAL to life.

You get this huge plate with a tiny portion posing in the middle, then you try it and discover that those five French words that describe it all mean "goat cheese".

1. Get a MacBook second hand from Craigslist/feeBay
2. Use.
3. Read Macrumours and when Apple has an upcoming Mac event (it must considering how long they're taking), then sell to the oblivious eBayian.
4. Buy Previous Mac.

You might like a Surface Book.

Ahh, the infamous NVIDIA GT 330M. Apple had a partial recall program for that, but it has now ended. See this article for some tips that might help the situation a bit.

Yeah, it was the same exact chip that was available elsewhere but just custom sized. I'm pretty sure Apple paid a nice fee to get that done though. I doubt Apple would be getting stock KabyLake procs before others, especially with the volumes that Dell/HP/Lenovo sell.
[doublepost=1466534572][/doublepost]

What's ample time? The relevant (Skylake with P580 gpu) ones were recently just made available, and we don't even know what kind of quantities they're available in. Truthfully, I'm not mad about the lack of Skylake Pros, but am disappointed that Apple skipped Broadwell and continues to maintain the same price point for a system with a 2+ year old CPU.
Skylake with P580 would have been made available to manufacturers, like Apple in the form of engineering samples so they can get hardware ready.

The fact is, other manufacturers have been able to release Skylake processors, while Apple flounder, and concentrate on making iMessage for teenage girls.

No one is doubting that Apple has machines with Skylake/580 installed. But those are for testing, not sale. They need large quantities for sale, and they have only recently been released.

What laptops are being sold with P580? They're existing machines with a new proc thrown in. Apple is putting it in an entirely new chassis so I expect/hope they due additional testing to ensure WE aren't the guinea pigs.

Had zero interest in purchasing a 2016 MBP until my 2015 13" rMBP was stolen last week (SO MUCH FUN!)

So here I am. In need of a new machine. Joining in on this waiting game.

I could possibly wait until September, but the struggle is real to not just pull the trigger on a well-spec'd refurb 15" rMBP model right now. I definitely want to go 15" for the additional power this time. This is a work machine. They're paying for it. I don't really have the option to buy now / flip when the new model comes out so I buy now, and I'm stuck with it for a while.

So I wait.

Or do I?

Arg.

What pushed me to buy now was, besides the long wait, the rumor that the next MBP will only have USB C. I really like magsafe and HDMI out and all my devices are USB 2/3. I just couldn't bare the thought of getting dongles for all those devices and having to carry them everywhere with me.

I could also fear that Apple will change the keyboard to something with less travel.

Totally agree with you:
I am quite reluctant to buy a quite overpriced 2015 MBP with a 2 year old processor, but I am also very worried with the apple's recent tendency of releasing cripple hardware (MacMini 2014...), price policy (+100$ on iPad pro 9.7), and lack of connectivity (rumors about no SD slot and only USB-C on next MBP, and persisting rumors about the headphone jack on iPhone 7).

The more I think about it, the more I am to buy a 2015 MPB to not have to re-think all my workflow in a hurry, but also get ready to pass to Win for my next years if apple persist on that path.
