When did you get your first Mac?
This'll be my first.

What's your current machine?
2010 Dell Studio XPS 1647; 8GB DDR2 RAM; 320GB HDD; Intel Core i5 M520 2.4GHz

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
Many things, but mostly it's slow in rendering and editing photos. It weighs 6.4 lbs and is 1.34" thick. It only has a 141PPI screen and USB 2.0. It also gets hot enough to burn my fingers while playing Diablo on low settings.

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
I'm actually looking forward the most to the new design, hoping we get color options. All the tech and ports will be miles ahead of what I have now, no matter what they put in it. I'm also looking forward to using macOS for the first time, and exploring integration with my iPhone.

Assuming models and options stay similar, what are you going for?
Most likely base 15" and praying the upgrades are more affordable, springing for a larger SSD if I can afford it.

What will you be using the new MBP for?
Photo editing in Lightroom primarily but also Blizzard gaming and occasionally Premiere and InDesign. I don't have a tablet, so this'll be my go to machine for everything.

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
I'd go with a 21.5" 4K iMac.

Listed my MacBook Pro on eBay and Craigslist. I've had 4 people backing out on Craigslist and 7 on eBay ditching and not responding to me FeelsBadMan.

Don't waste your time, IMO. Just use something like Macofalltrades. I just sold my 13" MBA to them and the process went extremely smooth.

They offered me $815 for a maxed out 2012 rMBP and are selling a base 2012 rMBP (with the only upgrade being 16G of memory) for $1200. You're better off just under valuing on eBay/Craigslist.

Seems like a huge rip off. Top of the line MBP 15" for $1300? Yikes.

I think it depends on the model. I got about ~$200 less for my MBA than I would have on eBay. But when you factor in eBay fees / hassle of dealing with deadbeats & scammers, that discount was worth it to me.

Agreed. Perhaps for older computers having to go through the hassle and such may not be worth it. But for the latest computers that can relatively sell easily, I don't think the site is worth looking into. Even with fees, the lowest I would sell the computer on eBay would be around $2000-2200. Understand that it's a business and all to buy/sell, but that's way too low for a computer like this.

When did you get your first Mac?
2006. Intel made me switch.

What's your current machine?
iPad Air 2 and Hackintosh (i7 4790k, 32GB ram and 760 GTX)

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
Would like to maintain a single computer/device.

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
Thinness, quad core and a cool dedicated GPU. Quiet operation.

What will you be using the new MBP for?
All my computing needs. One computer, one desire. Developing web apps, casual browsing and occasional games of FIFA.

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
MacBook 12 with M7 and 256GB SSD.

When did you get your first Mac?
2012. Retina display had me oozing. But that dGPU was a no-no.

What's your current machine?
2015 15" rMBP

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
Battery life and so-so dGPU

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
Better battery life, better screen, a little bit lighter, same keys (Perhaps the feel of the rMB but the distance of the other Macs), big trackpad, slightly improved speakers, smaller bezels, MagSafe

What will you be using the new MBP for?
Need a computer with the 15" real estate. Can't really use anything smaller after. Also would be nice to play current games.

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
Sell the computer I have and go with a 2016 base rMB and spend the rest on a PC.

I don't understand what the big thrill is about the Macbooks. I gave up and picked up a 2015 rMBP yesterday. When I was in the apple store, I browsed the Macbooks. It looks like you're working off one of the 10" ATOM machines that we all grew to hate very quickly. It looks like a toy.
I may as well answer just to keep myself in the thread:

First Mac: Jan 2015 - Mac Mini replaced my 7 year Dell XPS that I basically was having a hard time getting some parts for. I miss the Raid 1 that I had in it.

Current Machine: 2015 13" rMBP

Biggest Problem with it: I didn't buy enough storage for it plus it's a bit small. I'm passing it down to my daughter for college.

Must have features: Current technology. Basically, since my refresh cycle on laptops is long, I wanted the latest/greatest. I probably could have gotten away with a 15" MacBook as long as it had 16 GB (I run a few VM's) - but I didn't see that on the horizon. AppleCare was a must - I would have love to have bought used but then no applecare and I'm suspicious of buying used/refurb. I've been burned before on a refrub laptop.

When did you get your first Mac?
2009, MacBook Pro 2008 unibody (in my sig)

What's your current machine?
Same as above

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
Slow to even load webpages. Struggles on heavy content based webpages. Can't play YouTube videos properly. Fans blast at full power all the time. CPU (2.4 dual core) struggles on pretty much anything now. The worst has to be I have no battery in it as it bulged and affected the usage of the trackpad

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
The new features like force touch trackpad, retina screen, smaller and lighter body, new colours (I'd be tempted to a gold one!) the correct version of Bluetooth for continuity features and of course to run MacOS Sierra as my current laptop cannot run it

Assuming models and options stay similar, what are you going for?
I don't like changing computers. So it'll be the top of the range, off the shelf version. Paired up with a potential ACD or I'll get one from DELL

What will you be using the new MBP for?
Mostly content consumption with heavy VM usage for my IT Security work

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
I'd go with a 27" iMac for the screen estate.[/QUOTE]

When did you get your first Mac?
When they had 128K of RAM

What's your current machine?
15" Retina 2.8/1TB/M370 refurb ($500 off) - gave up Waiting for Skylake (plus an iPad Pro for travel and writing)

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
Nothing much - would have liked 32 GB of RAM because Adobe applications are pigs, but that fast SSD goes a long way in remedying that

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
I would have liked 32 GB and possibly a wide-gamut display, realized 2 TB SSD wasn't coming when I saw that none of the brand-new PC redesigns had it (without using 2 slots, which Apple won't do).

Assuming models and options stay similar, what are you going for?
I would probably have bought exactly what I did - the top configuration.

What will you be using the new MBP for?
The power goes to photography and some video editing - but I also use it for usual e-mail and web tasks.

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
Just bought it - and I'll be surprised if the new one is that much of a net improvement. We'll get faster graphics, but pay for it with every dongle in the world :) I also worried about the stability of a brand-new model...

Uh oh, we've reached the survey stage of the thread. By the 900s I better be seeing nothing but pages of memes...

Anyway, here are my answers to the latest survey:

When did you get your first Mac?
In 2006 when I was 8. My dad bought me a used one. No internet. Just playing educational computer games :p

What's your current machine?
I have no current Mac :(

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
The fact that it doesn't exist.

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
The main thing I want is a decent dGPU and an improved display. I want to see a wide-gamut display akin to that of the iMac and the iPad Pro 9.7". Also wouldn't mind if it were less reflective. This is the main reason I cannot get an older MBP.

Assuming models and options stay similar, what are you going for?
A 15" maxed out to the max. My dad is paying for it :D

What will you be using the new MBP for?
Photo-editing is my main "taxing" use. I will use it for everything except gaming, though.

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
An iMac. I refuse to buy a PC laptop or a previous generation MBP.

Damn, you're willing to spend almost $6000 on 2 laptops within a year?
[doublepost=1467079160][/doublepost]This is so sad... Nowadays news on the front page of MR is speculation on the color of the upcoming ****** iPhone. MAC rumors.

Haha I think we've gone crazy because of this wait. I can't resist though, here's my answers:

When did you get your first Mac?
February 2015. I was in need of a new laptop and as an app developer, I needed an apple computer to be able to launch my games on iOS.

What your current machine?
Late 2013 13" model with 128gb SSD and 8gb of Ram. Got it off of craigslist for a great price and so far it's served its purpose but some of my task are taking it to its limits.

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
The lack of space. 128gb just isn't enough space if you plan to use your laptop as your main machine. Hopefully the next MacBook Pro will have 256gb as standard. Power is another big concern especially when it comes to 3D modeling rendering.

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to the most for the new MBP?
Better CPU and GPU for the 13" version (something powerful enough that it can run a modern game on low-medium settings smoothly). 256gb SSD standard. More color options. Possibly offer a DGPU option on the 13".

Assuming models and options stay similar, what are you going for?
As an App developer / 3D artist, the 15" would probably be the better choice but I like having something light, portable and a little cheaper. I'll most likely go for a mid range 13" version and upgrade the ram to 16gb.

What will you be using the new MacBook for?
3D modeling and rendering, iOS and android app development, architecture, general web surfing and word processing.

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
- If money is not a factor: Full spec Mac Pro or 5K iMac along with a 256gb SSD for my current MBP to hold me over.

- Realistically: As much as I hate windows, I would probably go for the Razer Blade or the Razer stealth. They have decent enough power, a nice look and I would have access to programs like Revit and 3Ds Max which are not natively available on Mac OS (still getting used to the new name) without using bootcamp.

Bonus Question: what will happen to your current machine when the new MBP launches?
Going up on Craigslist or taking it to the Apple Store for their paid trade in service (I think the current value for mine is around $500).

When did you get your first Mac?
2005 iMac G5. Glorious.

What's your current machine?
2010 iMac 27" with upgraded SSD

What's the biggest thing about your current machine that's holding you back?
Not wasting my money on a old laptop

What's your must have features / what are you looking forward to most for the new MBP?
Just the new one

Assuming models and options stay similar, what are you going for?
Probably base

What will you be using the new MBP for?
Jerkin

If you had to buy a new machine today, what would you go with?
probably a windows laptop. Theyve come a long way. The razer looks nice.
