Have been using Macs since the IIe. First one I personally bought was the original 12" PowerBook G4.

I wouldn't say it's THAT bad for the Mac (especially for the MBP line) as there have only been non-stop improvements ever since the original release of the MacBook line (a decade ago). The latest refresh was the only one that messed up by not including broadwell. I believe it's because they're setting us up for something spectacular with the 10year anniversary of the MacBook line.

Gonna go back to my corner and cry now.

I'm concerned about the longevity of these early OLED panels though...
There's nothing "early" about OLED panels anymore. Large OLED TVs have been on the market since 2012 and smaller devices with these displays even longer. The technology is fully developed and mature. The early problems with the selective bleaching of the blue OLEDs are long overcome, so that you won't notice any degradation within the normal lifetime of a TV or computer display. The main problem is still the price: the displays are difficult to manufacture and hence relatively expensive, although the prices are coming down.

Well my friend is selling his 21.5" iMac with 4K...I'm gonna get it. I always did kind of want a Mac desktop. Doesn't change the fact that I'll still want the Skylake laptop when it comes out, but this means I at least can have a Mac for the summer and for starting college. Not portable, but the iPad will be for taking notes and everything.

So I didn't "cave" technically, because my dad is still going to get me a Skylake MBP if or when it comes out, and this iMac I'm paying for myself. It's maxed out and he's asking $1000 for it (I think he paid closer to $2000 for it). I was over at his house yesterday inspecting it and playing with it...hard to resist -_-

Damn, you're willing to spend almost $6000 on 2 laptops within a year?
[doublepost=1467079160][/doublepost]This is so sad... Nowadays news on the front page of MR is speculation on the color of the upcoming ****** iPhone. MAC rumors.
No, I won't upgrade to the first generation of the new one... I decided that the possibilities of 32 Gb and/or a better screen weren't worth an indeterminate wait, a bunch of dongles and the possibility of the MacBook keyboard. Who knows about the second generation - Moore's Law has failed completely enough that I may run this machine into the ground; or I'll upgrade in a few years when USB-C is a help rather than a hindrance.

2 3/4 year old thread. Wow. Have the Intel HQ Skylake acPU actually all arrived now, and all Skylake that will be coming out now out?

Yes, they've been released, but in sufficient quantities? Who knows. Either way, seems that Apple is waiting on the new Polaris GPUs for release.

State of play: 9to5mac without Mark Gurman saying basically - we think it might come in the next 6 months, according to a report from some supply chain sources.

ZBook Studio G3 ships Xeon E3-1545M v5 (w/ Iris Pro P580) parts as soon as.....7/12/2016, for only $825 extra dollars (LOL).

Obviously it's highly doubtful that Apple will go with these parts unless they have a strange desire to throw in ECC ram on the Macbook, HP charges $650 bones for their 32GB flavors, so Apple would be atlas $1200 (lol again).

Anyway the more relevant point is that there are more P580 parts that are/will be in the wild soon, hopefully the 15" Macbook Pro will be one of them.

Sometimes I check Apple.com just to see if they have silently updated the MBP to Skylake.
Of course, I'm always disappointed.

Every day.

"Apple is annoying people who want to buy its computers"
http://qz.com/717846/apple-is-annoying-people-who-want-to-buy-its-computers/

When this thing finally drops, demand is going to be out of control.
Quote from the article: "Neither the Air nor the Pro have been updated, or dramatically gone on sale, since they were last updated." Journalism at its best. I would love to meet those investigative reporters who figured out they had not been updated since they were last updated.

There is a seller in Amazon UK that puts the base rMBP 15.4 for 750 pounds! I have seen it 3 times the past 24 hours.
He has 6 items and they disappear in under 5 mins.
The problem is that he states that item is NEW but if you click on the description, it says "almost as new, used it for a few weeks and put everything back in the box".
I wonder if it's worth buying it!

All these roundup articles are incredibly annoying. A dozen paragraphs and hundreds of words basically saying nothing at all. Clickbait articles.

That's a really good price. Is he a new user? Either way, I would go for it. If you find that there are some flaws that are inexcusable, Amazon is good with returns.

I wonder if there's actually any revenue in those articles. I'd imagine that anyone looking into such things is fairly tech savvy and likely has an ad-blocker installed.
