Polaris 10 debut http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/RX_480/25.html Very dissapointing performance/power consumption ratio (on pair with 2 years old gtx 970 on 28nm and this new radeon is on 14nm).
I wonder if Polaris 11 will be a disappointment in the perf per watt as well. Even though on paper it is rumored to be a big improvement over the Cape Verde chip in the current MBP, I wouldn't be surprised if the new MBP dGPU is only marginally better than the old one.

I also would not be surprised if Apple used a rebrand of the old Bonaire chip (rx m470)...Apple doesn't usually use cutting edge GPU's

It won't be.
Right now, there are good chances that Apple will go with the RX 480M which is cheap, slightly faster than the GTX 960M and with only 35W.
I could be really satisfied with it.

I just had a thought. What if another reason for Apple to wait on the rMBP redesign is because they're adding a female Lightning port to it?

If all these rumors about dropping the 3.5 headphone jack are true, then it only makes sense for Apple to update all their Mac products so they can use Lightning headphones. And because they want to announce this at the iPhone event in September, the Macs will need to come later i.e. October.

Except we already saw the leak of the chassis. 4 USB-C ports and a headphone port. Nothing else. Don't really want a female lighting port anyway. The last thing anyone should want is a proprietary port.

Speaking of ports, does anyone have a recommendation of a solid USB-C hub? I'd like one to be able to handle some usb-a connections, sd, power, and one 4k monitor. Is that even possible?

Well, that's hardly definite. Could be an early prototype, could be for a different laptop, (unlikely) could be an Air and not a MBP, could be something someone made for fun...I suspect the leak is what we'll get, but anything could happen...

After polaris10 debut I really doubt that 480m will consume 35W if it's faster than 960m but we will see.

I requested factory sealed package and I got it for 900 pounds which i consider a steal. I'm still not convinced that I got this deal and that there should be a catch but I don't have much to lose I guess since I can still return it.

"1 of: Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display, MJLQ2B/A, 15.4" Intel Core i7, 256GB Flash Storage, 16GB RAM (UK Model - UK Keyboard)

Interesting...I've been checking Amazon uk out and can't find that item...'Jolly Retail' don't seem to have anything in their storefront either:

The google link seems broken somewhat...

"With these scores the card is slightly faster than a Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M.
[...]
This performance level means that modern games like Overwatch, Doom or Mirrors Edge Catalyst should be playable in high details and full HD resolution. See the pages for the GTX 960M or 965M to see more gaming benchmarks for this performance level.

Due to the relative low TDP of 35 Watt, the RX480M can be used in "smaller" gaming laptops. E.g. 13-15-inch could with a slim form factor."

Wait for real benchmarks and not just leaks :D On leaks polaris 10 should be on pair with gtx980 and consume less than 150W

So?
Just because it's an AMD declaration, it's obviously fake or overstated?
Just because today is polaris 10 debut(with reall benchmarks and real power consumption results) and its performance per/w its not better than 2 years nvidia card on 28nm. Thats why I have doubts in 480m 35w and performance over 960m(which is like 60W or more?).

I don't get you.
- RX 480M is a Polaris 11, not 10
- Notebookcheck is a trustable source of informations, so I don't see why we shouldn't trust them
- 960M is about 60 watts
- Why should AMD fake benchmarks and power consumption? Sooner users will get them. I don't think they can write "35W" and then after just say "oh yeah sorry, our bad, it was actually 50W, not 35W".
- also Videocardz confermate the benchmarks

Based on AMD's history with press releases, they might do this ;)

I am an AMD fan but they often over promise when it comes to specs

The said it will be 2.8 per/W increase on polaris 10, where is it ? You are very naive ;)

You have to check constantly. They usually have 5-6 items and they go down in 10 mins.

I have doubts about that leak. I think we'll either see a revised MagSafe or Smart Connector in that blank space of the chassis at the very least. With that thought, they could cut out a spot for Lightning in place of 3.5 headphone jack. (All speculation because EVERYTHING is speculation at this point.)
