Mark Gurman seems to think it's happening.

I bet that the Touch ID for macOS using iPhone is just a compatibility measure for older hardware, and not the main thrust of the feature. Just like how Apple is now working on Force Touch alternatives for older devices. Obviously, they will not pre-announce macOS with support for built-in Touch ID without hardware to go along with it.

I think the same goes for Siri. Clicking a dock icon seems a tad clumsy; it takes you away from the content. Tapping a button on the touchbar would be better and more seamless.

Kuo and Gurman, both extremely reliable, believe that TouchID will be making an appearance on the Mac. To add even more fuel to the fire, weeks after they discussed this, code references for TouchID (along with USB 3.1 support) were found within the macOS Sierra beta. So yeah, it's happening. Mind you the references that were found were not related at all to the Phone+Macbook combo you speak about.

Good to know of those sources. I guess we'll see if I stand corrected come...October?

Absolutely no chance Apple introduces Touch ID for unlock and Apple pay and doesn't implement the actual Touch ID sensor into future Mac hardware. The iPhone feature is purely for older hardware imo.

Wouldn't actually surprise me if its the Touch ID integration which is holding up the new MBPs, Apple will want it to be as secure as it is on the iPhone.

You can already set a keyboard shortcut for it. First thing I plan on doing is remove the dock and menu bar icons.

This thread has gone on for so long that every possible topic seems to have cycled and repeated at least once. First there's hope and speculation, awesome home renderings, disappointment after the latest Apple keynote, despair leading to "I gave in and bought a 15" rMBP", discussions about alternatives (Razers, Dells, etc.), discussions and arguments about what should or should not be in the new MBPs, baseless rumours from self-proclaimed insiders, mocking of said insiders, arguments about why Kaby Lake is or is not possible leading to the inevitable "look at ____'s signature" or "have you not read the last 700 pages of the thread?!", random GIFs, "I want to believe" photos, sporadic kitten pictures, hopeless despair, then more rumors leading to hope and speculation...

Rinse and repeat. Boom. 767 pages of "Waiting for Skylake MBP".

You know what else has been repeated? Posts about how everything has already been repeated.

And posts replying to posts about how everything has been repeated to point out that posts about how everything has already been repeated have also been repeated. {cue theme from the Twilight Zone}

I think Apple already knew everything.

Yes you did, Apple.
Yes you did...

How about we do cocktail recipes now? I think we all need a drink.

May I suggest you folks a good ol' Old Fashioned?
"Dissolve a small lump of sugar with a little water in a whiskey-glass;
add two dashes Angostura Bitters,
a small piece of ice, a piece of orange - peel,
one jigger whiskey.
Mix with small bar-spoon and serve, leaving spoon in glass."

Little do you know of Apple. They'll include TouchID functionality via iPhone/Watch just to sell more devices.

Will skylake in a 13 inch rmbp whenever it gets updated be able to drive 4/5k screen at 60 frames?
no not yet
[doublepost=1467917864][/doublepost]will wait for late 2017/2018 model, and please dont use the "dat dumb OLED bar" its weird,peeps already make it in 2014 X1 Carbon,its confusing,and people need to adjust their keyboard use, i love the 12' Macbook keyboard design ,hope that design on macbook retina with more travel (after use on 13" rMBP,try on 12" its damn short travel keyboard) and i hope the DDR4 will be there, also hope Iris 550 & Iris Pro 580 make the way, and get upgraded DX12& Metal support,AMD gpu

This thread is too hilarious. I'm laughing out loud as I glance at this thread at work. Having been looking at forums for 30-40% of my 22 year life, this thread easily goes into the hall of fame.

Unless Apple gives us "Hey Siri" as in the iPhone 6s and that would eliminate touching the dock.

The sad part is that the only people who are really screwed are the people who need a MacBook for their work and are forced to buy an old machine in full price.
The saddest part is that Apple doesn't care.

Second Tuesday/Wednesday would be Sept 13/14th. Ah, Least there's Intel IDF in August beforehand - that and the earnings call (Intel and Apple) that I hope at least one analyst asks about lack of updates.
