Actually if Intel follows the Skylake pattern of CPU/GPU layout in terms of TDP it's 99% certain because early CPU releases use weak GPU parts and habe a very small thermal envelope
So it will throttle most of time if you actually start to stress the CPU and/or GPU.

Not like this hasnt been discussed multiple times in this thread already.

Then again - not like we have anything better to discuss either
Again,
No, it's not and Maybe we have nothing better to discuss. Just opinions. Full stop.

Kaby Lake is nothing special. It's an exception to Intel's "Tick Tock" releases of smaller microtransistors and new microarchitectures, opting for neither. It adds USB 3.1 and piles on more DRM (whoop de do), that's about it, it's a minor refresh.

Not worth postponing a new MBP for, and no need to feel like Skylake is suddenly chuggy and obsolete.

Yep.
Also, one of the bigger improvement of Kaby Lake is supposed to be the iGPU.
Which could not so important, if Apple will use (hopefully) a decent Polaris GPU.

Back To School is on until 5th September. Chances of new MacBook Pros within that time frame? They did it once before.

So in September, they'll introduce the new iPhone 6se, 6se plus, 6se pro and show new features of iOS 10.
Then Apple Watch 2 and new features of watchOS 3.
Then the new iPad Pro 2.
Then they'll introduce a complete overhaul of the Mac lineup with updated Mac Pro, updated Mac minis, updated iMacs and lastly the new MacBook Pro showing of the new led bar and the features of the Sierra.

Either they'll have an all day event to show all these products or we'll just get new iPhones and iPad Pro 2 and wait for march 2017 for the new MacBook pro since the September event is the third and last event for Apple for 2016.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of...

no new watch this year. not with the upgrade the software is bringing the current watch. 2-3 new things could happen in september event.

How's this sound?

Buy student custom rMBP with beats deal 5th September, takes about a week to deliver so that's receiving it around the 12th but don't open it.
Within that time there's either been a presentation or will be within the 2 week return timeframe. If no new rMBP, keep the rMBP, sell the beats and enjoy shiny new laptop.
If a new rMBP is announced, send back order and beats and reorder the upgraded rMBP.

Anyone else considering this? Anyone see any flaws in it apart from the 2 year old processor nonsense?
If they do release a new rMBP but drop the price of the old one, will the original price be honoured if it's returned?

Usually(edit-ALWAYS) with things you buy and have the receipt for you get what you paid if returned(especially unopened). 2 week return policy so still not worth it if they do launch in october. just wait geez

My hunch is we'll see a mid-October Mac/iPad focussed event, as in 2013 and 2014, even though I'd obviously prefer September.

I feel like it's more likely that we see an announcement at the September event, with the relatively minor updates to the iPhone the keynote will look stronger if they have new mac hardware to show off. That would allow them to start shipping the 13" immediately and then the 15" in October.

My guess is that all of it will be at the September event. iPhone, iPad Pro 2, MacBooks.
They can keep the MacBook intro short, they just have to show the OLED bar.
I think they know they have to show something.

As for the avaiability, I would thing it will ship end of September.

I do keep my fingers crossed for a MacPro update, with GPU's and USB-C / TB3 / HDMI 2.0
That's basically all I would need to buy a MacPro. I would go as high as 6000 Euro.

They just have to show the OLED bar? rMB had twenty minutes with a reveal and a design video. Ming-Chi Kuo said the MacBook Pro updates are the "most significant upgrade ever undertaken by Apple."

This baby is getting some serious stage time.

I am expecting a trailer for a 90 minute making-of documentary that will premiere at Sundance 2017.

What really pisses me off is Apple don't have the courtesy to even inform their customers that they are even entertaining the idea of a new MBP in any month/year/decade they just don't communicate with their customers until they start blabbing out the hype in a keynote about it being the best thing since..... well the last time.

Other companies explain their roadmaps on products and give timeframes for new releases even with specs and such.

Apple are so ignorant to their customers.

Yeah I'm a little tired of the secrets. It isn't cute anymore.

As I've said before, we all know when the new iPhones come out; it's been perfectly predictable for years now. But why all the secrets about the MBP?

Basically you have to ask yourself if it's worth a pair of headphones instead of a new MacBook (which for me is hell no), you don't want to be sweating bullets if the keynote is later than expected or the new MacBook launch is maybe late sept or October (not speculation, just an example). Plus the hassle of returning it. if you think you'll be annoyed if you end up "stuck" with it then I would just hand tight.

Narrated by Morgan Freeman & 4K.
