I don't get why LTE is wanted. It is clear that Apple encourages people to use their iPhone as a hotspot for LTE if needed. They explained that in their design video for the new MacBook.

Yes, and if you buy one of these mobile hotspots, you can connect multiple devices without even using your iPhone's battery. In addition, no drivers or software required.

does it use your tethering plan on your phone? still on grandfathered ATT they won't let me have tethering.

"after eight months of pretty constant use, I’ve found the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with its Smart Keyboard, an effective replacement"
horrible articles

And there is still no international version out for this keyboard. Almost 1 year after it being released to the public. Were they surprised that international people would prefer an international keyboard layout supporting all their special characters?

Sometimes i really wonder what they are doing over in Cupertino beside counting money.

Wow, I just checked it because I couldn't believe it. That's insane.

After seeing alot of switching from Apple to Windows based laptops, I am starting to see why comments like this are written...

"I think we can stop worrying about beating Apple, since they've been beaten a long time ago. Tech wise and bang for your buck, everyone's just trouncing them. Whether or not you like other OSes, the tech of Apple is crap. OS is a preference thing, though I like getting what I pay for and Apple's value is not comparable to the price they demand for their products. The OS isn't doing anything crazy, the quality isn't there, the parts aren't there. There's just not any real justification to Apple anything other than you're used to it."

Yep, Apple was dominating from 2012~2015. Apple products were expensive, but they were worth every penny from software to build quality .. To track pad etc. HOWEVER ..Now Apple is just expensive and has nothing unique to offer, in fact it LACKS a lot of features compared to the market.

Macbook Pro 15? No thanks, i'll take the Dell XPS 15/Razer Blade 14.

Macbook Pro 13? I'll take the Razer Blade Stealth

iPad Pro? Surface Pro 4 for sure.

iPhone 6s+? Maybe instead of paying Apples $1549 for 128gb iPhone, I can pay $500~800 for a OnePlusThree / HTC 10 / S7 Edge.

iCloud? Try out Google Drive, One Drive, DropBox, universal applications like Chrome. Not limited to one OS.

I can go on for about every other product in their line up.. You get the point - There is good competition out there now.

They all offer MORE features and still cost LESS. Software on MacOS is no longer unique, it is just a taste of personal preference between Windows 10 these days.

What does Apple sell now? a TKL non backlit keyboard for $179 AUD, a $129 AUD silicon case with a battery strapped to it. Want to upgrade the ram in your iMac? Sure that will be just $265 for our 30 seconds of labour work to swap out that 8gb of ram to 16. Want to buy our non-retina MBP last updated in 2012 for just $1549 AUD? It features 4gb of ram and a 500gb HDD with a 720p display.

Apple make great products, but for the price they are asking for now is RIDICULOUS. I remember joining this thread MONTHS ago, back then I had a full set of Apple gear, now I don't own a single product. I'm sick of paying so much for such limited hardware and a dull OS.

If you are going to charge me $3799 AUD for a "pro" 15" machine I'd expect it to have something not laughable like an M370x or a 4th gen CPU. Jheesh, I think I might just save the money and go with a 6gb 970M on the Razer Blade and a current skylake CPU with usb-C bla bla bla you get the point.

It's funny to come back to this thread and read empty promises and fake hope of people assuming things like an external GPU support like Razer currently has for the Blade line up or MSI/Alienware for about 2 years now. The most you guys will get is a 10% + increase in price, a new slimmer dumbed down laptop line up and a $49.99 adapter for your new iPhone 7 to listen to music while charging at the same time.

"Form over Function". ~ Apple.

I have a multi SIM which basically uses the data allowance from my main contract.
It's not tethering but simply counts against the data tarif associated with the SIM in my phone.
If this is what you were asking...

Just to point out (again) a few numbers...
it make me really sad to see that not only every Apple computer has the "don't buy" sign fro MacRumors, but also they are outdated by more than a year:

retina MacBookPro: 440
MacBook Air: 511
Mac Mini: 655
Mac Pro: 956
c̶o̶m̶m̶o̶n̶ crap MacBookPro: 1512

I don't even know why anyone looks at the non retina MBP. It's DOA. They're going to pull it (like those that were waiting for an update in storage on the classic click wheel iPod). Apple seems to like to dangle obsolete technology around for a LONG time after it should be pulled from the shelves.

Classic MacBook Pro isn't going to be updated again, so it's pointless to post how long it's been since an update.

MacBook Air has likely been replaced by MacBook.

MacPro is a cool idea, but the outrageous cost drove consumers away. It's a sales failure. Don't expect Apple to keep working on failures like the MacPro when iMacs sell well enough.

Mac Mini has always been the ugly stepchild of the Mac lineup. It's meant to be a gateway drug for new Mac users but I don't think profit margins are high enough on those to justify continued improvements either.

Which brings us to the one computer Apple really should care about: the MacBook Pro. More powerful, still mobile, it's the flagship of the Mac lineup. And it hasn't been updated in just over 400 days.

400 days... which isn't really that bad. What's bad is that Apple skipped a processor update 400 days ago which means they're selling 2 year old processors in machines with high price tags. But really, what's the big difference between Haswell and Broadwell? There isn't one. And Intel didn't have the MacBook Pro versions out in time so Apple decided to use old chips which were basically the same as new ones.

I just don't see the neglect story everyone here is pushing. I see smart business moves and a natural thinning of the Mac lineup.

But if you're bothered by everything above, go ahead and switch already. If you want something like a MacPro, go build yourself a powerhouse desktop! I you want a laptop with the best Skylake processor you can find, get a Dell XPS 15, which uses a 6700HQ-basically the Skylake we expect to see in the MBP without the better integrated GPU (though it has discreet graphics so no worries). You have options.

It still remains the most/only upgradable Apple computer.
I would really like to not include it in the list, but as long as Apple will continue sell it (for even a crazy price!), it will be part of their products line.

edit:

...are you serious?

Classic MacBook Pro isn't going to be updated again, so it's pointless to post how long it's been since an update.

It is full of point (?!) post a product that Apple is still selling.
I know, everyone know that non-retina MBP is dead without exceptions.
So why are they still selling it, why is it still there, with a 4 years old hardware/2016 price?!
Apple want to seriously kill it? Fine, act like it. Remove it from store!

...the cost is outrageous compared to its hardware. And it is a failure (?!) because is outdated by eons. Then, you can't compare iMac and MacPro. They are completely different products.

Mac Mini has always been the ugly stepchild of the Mac lineup. It's meant to be a gateway drug for new Mac users but I don't think profit margins are high enough on those to justify continued improvements either.

Guess you've never heard of people using MacMini as servers, or the glorious times when MacMini was... upgradable?
MacMini was an interesting business, long time ago, before Apple decided to kill it.

400 days... which isn't really that bad. What's bad is that Apple skipped a processor update 400 days ago which means they're selling 2 year old processors in machines with high price tags. But really, what's the big difference between Haswell and Broadwell? There isn't one. It is bad. First, the 15" is even older, as BuyerGuide count the latest upgrade (so the 13").
Second, Apple could have lowered the price, or improve the GPU power, or use Broadwell for more efficiency/power... but nothing of this happened.

I just don't see the neglect story everyone here is pushing. I see smart business moves and a natural thinning of the Mac lineup.

I kinda agree with the last part, bad luck is just that... the Mac lineup is not thinning.
I still see a line of outdated products in their store, still selling for top dollars.
Oh, and about smart business...

Apple, the first company to start producing laptops without DVD drives and one of the last companies to still sell laptops with DVD drives...

The problem is that reviewers are saying the same thing about the iPhone. It's not just affecting the Mac lineup. People are jumping unto Samsung and Chromebooks because they work with ALL platforms. They don't require multiple and updated products to work within their ecosystem.

My own experience is that I am thinning down on Apple devices. I have kept two iPad Air 2/Mini 4 for my kids, but personally I use a Samsung Note for phone and I am actually writing this on a Windows desktop. At most my household had three iPhones (6, 6+ and 5S) along with the two iPads mentioned earlier, a Macbook Pro 15 (AMD2015), two retina MacBooks and a Hackintosh.

Now we only use the Samsung and have a desktop with the capability to dual boot Windows 10 and El Capitan. Even though I have two dGPUs in my open air tower, the noise levels are lower than the Macbook Pro 2015 with M370X. I understand that the space within a tower may accommedate better cooling, but also desktops are the most futureproof computers in the market. I actually feel my Hackintosh is more stable than any of my MacBooks. Easier to diagnose and fix as well if a problem comes along.

I'm not neglecting the strength of one of the worlds most profitable companies, but word is spread around that being on the top is no longer that simple, nor is using the devices they make anymore. The complexity behind their simplicity is starting to show. The current state of iTunes is a perfect view into their current challenges. Too many answers to few questions.

The software is still very competent, but ease of use is being cluttered with each click added to their interfaces. While their website is looking better than ever, the actual products now require more Googling and support to find out how things work. I guess the world of computing is at it's most complex state in history, but I used to account Apple with the responsibility to clean up the mess that nobody else cared about. As much as I admire their sales figure, I won't sit by and slowly became a backer of this project called Apple.

Apple has to notice that a dedicated fan base is losing interest. Yes the iPhone sells very well, and yes they're making more money off of services now that makes the missed revenue from Macs less noticable-- but Apple has to understand that they are failing themselves and the consumer by not putting out an updated MBP.

Its a fact that the Tim Cook lead ship is pushing iOS powered devices, but I just can't convince myself to jump ship until I see the new product. I think whatever we see in September/October is what will be the new Apple moving forward. Yes Mac has been neglected, but they could right everything in the coming months with updates. Honestly that's much less probable, but they could do it. Apple HAS to do something to appeal to the market of MBP users. Hopefully they're just doing it in typical Apple fashion where they abuse the consumer a little bit along the way...

My current stance is that whatever is put out next I'll buy-- I enjoy the ecosystem too much and honestly I've spent too much of my free time just dreaming about this new machine. But this could very well be my last Mac if it shows a clear lack of priority from Apple.

I've been a lurker for years. I have a 2012 rMBP which has had it's nvidia video card die 6 times.

I've been waiting and waiting for a new model to come out but Apple abandoned this product line.

I've finally gone Windows 10. I'm going to ditch my damn iPhone too, I'm so angry.

The cheapest chinese junk at least will put a current CPU in it's product. If Apple did that, there would be ZERO drama.

I don't think there's a worthwhile alternative to the MBP unless you absolutely need a laptop right now. The battery, keyboard & trackpad of the XPS 9550 absolutely ruined the experience for me.

It's funny how both stable and fragile the Apple ecosystem can be. With my new PC that I built, the MacBook Air is looking like a reliable traveling pal. However, I'm looking to now unload my Trackpad 2, iPhone 6 plus, and Apple Watch. I can't see any Android tablets getting a lot better than the iPad Mini 4, so I'll stick with the iPad and MacBook Air. But the other products? Easily replaceable.

Actually, I came up with a pretty good explanation for this in my head a while ago. Apple replaces broken devices with new ones, or refurbished which they claim is basically new. For tax purposes, they can write off the cost of the replacement machine. If they keep the price high, it won't cannibalize the newer models while still providing a nice deduction at tax time.

Why you guys are bothered by it being listed is beyond my understanding. Let people buy whatever they want, and make sure you get the best value for the price for your own purchases.
