Then why don't i see many people getting claims on iPhones after the first year? Why do manufacturers even list one year warranty then? And why do most of us buy applecare for iPhones if this is true?
These consumer protections are in addition to any company guarantee, there are different rules around the world so they only mention one year, and basically as long as people can't be bothered to find out their rights, companies will take advantage of them.
Don't take my word for it. Look up consumer protection, sale of goods act, etc on the internet, it's all there for all to see.
Applecare has value, but you are protected more than you thought already.

Which Intel processor would the 2016 MBP use? “Kaby Lake seems like a fair possibility for the CPU,” according to Matte. I had to revise my earlier prediction (made in an earlier post) based on this comment. The bottom line is that Kaby Lake (a so-called “shrink” of Skylake) isn’t radically different than Skylake and therefore Intel should ramp up production on schedule. “So we said we already started shipping Kaby Lake to our customers and OEMs,” Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said in July during the second quarter earnings conference call.

And note that Asus has been showing off a laptop-tablet hybrid with the processor. Hewlett-Packard too haslisted the Kaby Lake Core i3-7100U processor in an upcoming laptop “convertible.” Remember that Intel was originally slated to ship a 10-nanometer Canonlake after Skylake but pushed Canonlake back and introduced Kaby Lake as an interim product.

“Keep in mind that while the [Kaby Lake] CPU architecture should only be mildly improved, the graphics and entire surrounding chipset should be improved significantly,” said Matte. That of course would suit Apple to a tee. We will undoubtedly know a lot more about Kaby Lake when Intel’s developer forum gets under way this coming week.

I never buy AppleCare because i live in Norway, and we have these laws too, possibly even better laws for protecting consumers against bad batteries in iPods etc. I never buy AC because i'm protected anyways
Best part is that the seller only gets 3 attempts to fix the error, or the law grants you rights to either refund the purchase (After 4 years even), or replace the unit. Vi har det fint.

why does everyone think the mbp need an extra event? I would be happy if Apple just released it without any PR events

Good point. I think Apple doing an event will depend on:

1. How major the upgrade and redesign is.

2. If they are also releasing other upgraded products.

If the new MBP is the only new Mac product Apple has, then I'm sure a press release, a high quality video and a front and center feature on their website will be enough. Unless the new features and design are super major, I can't see Apple spending money and time to throw an event for 1 product (think about it, even the iPhone 7 is rumored to share the spotlight with a new Apple Watch and maybe a new iPad).

On the other hand, if Apple also has a new iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pro then I can definitely see them doing a Mac themed event. The Mac Pro could definitely use an update and a more affordable price point that can appeal to people who don't have Pixar money. In fact, if they can make an entry level Mac Pro, that would eliminate the need for the Mac Mini.

Overall, I would love to see Apple come full force with an arsenal of new Mac products to take down Windows machines but in reality, it seems like Apple doesn't care about Mac anymore. Even the Sierra update seems kinda dull. I hope they prove me wrong.

So now it might actually be a KabyBook Pro? All this railing against people expecting Kaby Lake might have been unfounded?

I'm fine with that as long as I don't have to wait until Spring 2017 for this stupid laptop...
There is no possibility for Intel to release GT4e (Iris Pro) Kaby Lakes soon enough for new rMBPs 15". Intel official and unofficial roadmaps do not offer them any earlier than 2017. So either we're talking about Kaby Lake for 13" and Skylake for 15". Or 15W Kaby Lake for 13" and 28W Kaby Lake for 15". The latter is still unlikely to be on time but at least relatively possible. However I hope Apple won't go this route.
[doublepost=1471196664][/doublepost]Of course we can always speculate Intel having a secret agreement with Apple to give them GT4e Kaby Lakes half a year earlier than other manufacturers but I don't think Dell, HP and Lenovo, those giving Intel higher profit (though with lower margins) and market share would not **** Intel in the arse after such a deal.

Because after three events during which Apple will have presented (in order):
- Liam, ecology and "we care about your health" blabbery
- Emoji! Wristbands! Bigger Emoji! Rap everyone!
- an iPhone anything but innovative

I pretend a specific event about what is still one of the most important Apple products.
And last but not least, a completely new design with a radical new feature which is this OLED bar, need to be explained and introduced with a proper event.

The Kaby Lake Chips releasing in 2016 will not be suitable for a Macbook Pro. Intel does not just release every variant of a processor family all at once. Skylake chips started coming out last year, but suitable chips for Macbook Pro have only been available for a few weeks. It is extremely likely that the same will happen with Kaby Lake.

...oh wait.

Yeah, three events this year with no new MBPs will just be insane. But I would not put it past them at this point. Watch this thread get another 50 pages around the September 7th event to once again be disappointed with no new laptops.

Remember when many in this thread thought the new MBP was coming out in March? Well they were right; it is coming out in March. 2017. :D

Just kidding.

I think.

I hope so :( College classes start for me on September 21st. It would be amazing if the new MBPs were announced before then. Then I could at least relax and know I'll be getting a new laptop soon.

Agreed, unless it's a radical - for better, worse - different design there really is no need for an event. Make a video showing the new features, hardware, design and specs and be done with it. Should Apple plan to have a whole new plethora of "Pro" lineup then an event would of course happen.

The problem with the Mac Pro is simple: it's a very expensive computer that's not upgradable because of it's unique design and the proprietory features. But I highly doubt Apple will compromise on it's price because this machine isn't geared for your average customers it's made for CAD and video rendering professionals and professional YTers such as IJustine, Lew Hilsenberger and I think Marques Brownlee uses one too.

I think having a pro line that is not upgradable is not every "Pro"sific in my mind.

I don't trust this article. Just look at lines like "The bottom line is that Kaby Lake (a so-called “shrink” of Skylake)..." Not much different than some click bait articles.
Also, Kabylake H+GT4e not being mentioned anywhere hasn't changed. And intel not releasing Kabylake-H-GT4e a few weeks after Skylake-H-GT4e seems still plausible. So either, Apple is completely changing the processor lineup of the MBP, it got a fantastic deal with Intel or this article is not very well informed. I'm guessing for the last one.

It's not well informed, simple as that.

The article may be a bit speculative but it does remind us all of IDF16 which in the past has had many processor news and introduction.

Correct me if I'm wrong (lol) but IDF15 last year wasn't nothing exceptional, about MBP-suitable CPUs.
And speculation or not, we really don't have a single clue about proper Kaby Lake coming in october.

My god... is it really already an year, since I've heard "wait for IDF15, Intel will present Skylake!" ?
And now, here I am, surrounded by my own desperation, desperately waiting for the skylake macbook pro...

......... Not only do I want a keynote, not only do I want an Ives video. forget that, I want Ives to come out on stage and talk about it. I'll even take Schiller at this point.

Yves definitely! Schiller likely! Mansfield talking about new technology and innovation: probably!

Damn I hate all these rumors that indicate a 2017 release! Give us a new laptop to buy ffs!

Ugh yeah, if we're waiting until 2017 it's going to be the Dell. I'd say they have until about October as far as I'm concerned, then I'm giving up. I'm already on Android, so this would probably be the end of my 13 year relationship with Apple.

High DPI is a problem in Windows, but it'll get better. I'm a bit concerned about how Dells always have coil whine and other quirks, but at this point those XPS displays are the nearest thing we have to innovation in the notebook market right now. (Unless you count the 12-inch MacBook, which I consider like a really expensive Chromebook with macOS, to borrow someone else's description)
