If they have a seperate Mac event, there should be agreement from everyone in the room that when Tim announces them. Rather than clapping and cheering like a bunch of fools, everyone just says in an exasperated tone "finally" and then sits down queitly. This would ensure we would never go another 2 years without updates.

I plan on my MBP lasting more than 2 years, why should I care about the next update after this one?

But he gets standing ovations for bigger emojis. If this happened Mac line would get killed 24 hours later. "Everybody hates them. Hug me Jony."

Or Tim could go all Tyra Banks on the entire world and hold the release even further as punishment .

Nah, they'll just sell the line to Lenovo...
I know you're joking, but to be honest, I think they'd rather kill the brand and department than hand it over to a competitor. It looks really bad for Apple if MacBook Pros started popping up with with Lenovo branding. And the only thing proprietary about MacBook Pros that they could keep would be the OS and the Trackpad in current models if I'm not mistaken —That's about it. Maybe the battery and screen. Everything else seems to be sourced from elsewhere as far as I know.

i'm starting to wonder whether i should just buy an iMac and get an iPad for the extra mobility, instead of getting the new MBP.

Has anyone been tempted by something like this?
Some people i study with have the ipad as their portable work device, they are severely gimped and others need to do tasks for them all the time. If doing work with others, don't be that guy...

The iMac is due for an update too, so either way you'll have to wait if you want the latest hardware.. The iPad is nice for making spreadsheets, browsing the web, writing, etc but not for things like programming, photo editing, video editing (the main tasks I use a Mac for) so no, not really..

Jokes on you. iMacs are pretty much outdated as well. Not as bad as rMBPs but still bad. Ports are not future proof and 5K display is only usable as its own display when, frankly, in next iteration target display mode should be available.

Ordered one last week being saddened by the aforementioned problems. :(

ah. feelsbadman.

i'm planning on waiting until september either way, since i expect the iMacs to get an update as well. maybe the ports issue will be solved on this year's version (i hope?)
