October is coming up. Lets share some of our expectations for the new mbp.

2880x1800 (Original 15 inch retina) or 4k screen.
10~11 hours of battery life (1~2 hour bump from Haswell 15in. Considering Skylake's power consumption, this isn't that unimaginable). 12~13 on the 13 inch.
Skylake, DDR4 Memory or LPDDR3.
Faster pcie-ssd.
Intel ac wireless
Color Option (Jet black)
Standard 512gb on the 15 inch. 256gb Standard on the 13 inch
32 gb ram option
TB3/USB C
Thinner chassis, thinner bezel.

I don't think Apple will keep the same price on the newer models.
Expect at least $200~300 more than the original rmbps

While I can see that point... considering pretty much every Mac is in need of updates right now, there could be a lot to show too. Mac Pro could see a new design, MacBook Pro obviously, and maybe there's a new Mac Mini to show?

But, really anything is possible now. I could see them having a hands-on press briefing in private with an embargo date and then release them on the Store around the same time.

Mac Mini? Will this be a 2016 refresh? Something to be mentioned in passing in a big MacBook Pro reveal.

These specifications all seem reasonable.
Skylake may be a little better when it comes to power consumption. though also it seems the chassis will be thinner which means smaller battery. Though, I think its definitely possible they will make screens that are more energy efficient. and potentially other components as well.

Jet black would be cool, so would the black black and other colors.

the other specs you list all seem correct and right on point. I would guess they stay at the 2880x1800. or maybe go to pixel doubled 1680x1050 - 3360x2100

What do you mean by the original rmbps? you expect them to cost $2-$300 more than the rmbp when they launched in 2012? I don't think they will cost that much. I would guess maybe 13" starting at $1500 and 15" at $2000

I would like to see a Mac Mini refresh. A full overhaul would be cool too

You know how the 2012 rmbps were a couple hundred dollars more expensive than the original mbps? I expect the same thing to happen

Based on the fact that you can't make an event and say, hello here is the new MacBook with oled bar. End of event. There is nothing left to show. macOS will be released next week and the next ipad's are due for march.

No one is saying anything about an event. The new MBPs can be released with press briefings.

Yea I suppose. Though I don't think that necessarily means these new ones will also cost more than the original rMBPs, maybe cost more than they cost now though.

What did rMBP start at in 2012? $1600 and $2200?

I doubt the prices will be that much more, since Apple are already having to work against the various exchange rates vs the dollar.
Bear in mind that for many places outside the US, there will already be exchange-rate price rises probably of 10-15%

Also, they have probably been making substantial margins on the current rMBP, given how old some of it's components are.

Hoping for larger maximum SSDs if at all possible. The rest looks good. I'd like the matt black colour option too.

They have an entire line of ancient Macs they need to update. And if they released a standalone Keyboard with Touch Bar for desktops, they could have a unifying theme for the event.

Hopefully. I could see them doing 256/8 and 512/16 default exclusively for the new 13 and 15, respectively, and releasing it at $1800 and $2500. This lets them maintain the current price structure and encourages upsell to make up for research and development on those models.

Going by the Buyer's guide it's right at 700 days since last refresh so take your pick, either spec refresh or a redesign. Something needs to be done with it.

A potential Mac event could have the spotlight on MBP and Mac Pro designs with lots of other side announcements (Mini, Air, Thunderbolt Display, anything really).

WE WON'T GET KABY LAKE.
KABY LAKE MBP-SUITED DON'T EXIST. THEY ARE NOT EVEN LISTED.
APPROPRIATE SKYLAKE CPUS FOR MBP ARE ALMOST NEW, EVEN IF A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE "OLD".
THEY ARE NOT.

Sorry for screaming, it's the booze.
I'll go to bed.[/QUOTE]
Although what you say is completely logical and is probably what would happen, history's filled with those who say "this wont happen" or "that won't happen"...until it does. The only thing you can realistically say is "it most likely will be skylake", because realistically, neither you nor I really, actually, know.

That's right. One of these days a doomsday cult's gonna be right. History is full of people who say they're being ridiculous, but you're right, eventually the world will end and some doomsday nutjobs will be able to say 'I told you so' in the last seconds before they're obliterated.

Let's just hope that happens after the new MBP comes out (with Skylake because Kaby Lake just isn't going to be ready).

Anyone think the color options for the iPhone 7 will flow through the entire Apple product line? I don't know if I'd want a jet black Macbook Pro (due to the scratches and endless fingerprints) but the new battle black looks fantastic. Much better than the old space gray (grey) color.

I would love to see the matt black option. Never been a massive fan of the space grey even though my iPad and iPhone are that colour [prefer the black front when turned off].

I don't think they would do gloss on a computer. if anything it could be the space grey or matte finish they have now. Id love a matte black personally. it will liven up the standard silver color of the pros

Here's my prediction for the 15" (some obvious from leaks):

- Thinner chassis (.6in?) with metal injection mold hinge
- 4lbs
- Butterfly keyboard switches
- OLED touch panel
- Touch ID sensor
- Larger touch pad
- i7-6770HQ, i7-6870HQ, i7-6970HQ
- Iris Pro 580
- Optional Polaris 11 - R9 470 Series graphics card with 4GB memory
- 16 / 32 GB ram options, DDR4
- Up to 10 hr battery (maybe more see below)
- (4) USB-C, Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 ports
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Wide Color 2800x1800 screen
- 256, 512, 1TB PCI-e SSD options

Other thoughts:

- Skylake processors won't give that much performance boost. 10% tops. 5.5% faster from i7-4770HQ to i7-6770HQ.
- Skylake Iris Pro 580 will be 65% faster than old Iris Pro 5200. I think the Iris Pro 580 will beat the R9 M370X.
- Better battery life when watching videos. Maybe even up to 11 or 12 hours watching video only. I think this is due to the media enhancements introduced Broadwell and Skylake.
- No MagSafe. I think it will be USB-C charging on both sides. Similar to Chromebook Pixel.
- Polaris 11 should bring some interesting GPU enhancements. Maybe 2x Iris Pro 580? I haven't read much on this so honestly I have no idea.
- No color options this year. Perhaps next. They will sell enough without them.

Personal feelings:

- Haven't read anything about the display choice. I think that Wide Color is the obvious upgrade here. This is my sleeper pick.
- More dongles. No HDMI, No (regular sized) USB ports, No SD card slot. Where the heck am I going to plug in my Yubikey? Dongle it up.
- I'm not sold on thinner keyboard being better. In fact, I think I might hate it.
- I could care less about OLED touch panel / touch id sensor. I think it may be more inconvenient than f-keys for my use.
- No more MagSafe is a con in my book. With that said, my wife uses a Chromebook Pixel as her main machine, and the USB-C charging from both sides is the next best alternative imo.
- Last thought: I have no idea how making something thinner will work with thermals.
