I nearly caved yesterday and got a rMB. I actually think it'd do me, but I want to get into xcode. The wait is breaking me. :')

Save yourself half the money and get a used 2015 rMBP. If the new model comes out next month sell yours on for an acceptable hit. If the new model turns out to be a horror show, cuddle your 2015 machine smugly and watch the panic as everybody tries to get one.

October is coming up. Lets share some of our expectations for the new mbp.

2880x1800 (Original 15 inch retina) or 4k screen.
10~11 hours of battery life (1~2 hour bump from Haswell 15in. Considering Skylake's power consumption, this isn't that unimaginable). 12~13 on the 13 inch.
Skylake, DDR4 Memory or LPDDR3.
Faster pcie-ssd.
Intel ac wireless
Color Option (Jet black)
Standard 512gb on the 15 inch. 256gb Standard on the 13 inch
32 gb ram option
TB3/USB C
Thinner chassis, thinner bezel.

I don't think Apple will keep the same price on the newer models.
Expect at least $200~300 more than the original rmbps
Very good, tell Tim that it's OK, were so desperate for a new MBP that we'll take a price increase of 10% + just to stay with the Mac OS and a longer battery life, things which are not new. OLED bar it's cute with limited value. The only way the new Mac would justify a 10+ price increase is to really have some big changes other than thinner lighter. Touch ID woo whoo! Keep in mind the CPI-U is in the 1-2% range and tech costs have been falling for years. If they added a touch sensitive screen like you see on the Surface Book made the 500 SSD and 16 mgb ram standard and the ability to upgrade ram on your own as before then maybe.

So, I skimmed through this desperate thread and finally decided to register. I don't know how you guys keep the patience, but mine is getting thin.
Everything points to a very unsurprising, disappointing update.
I'm now considering a switch back to the PC, after someone earlier on this thread posted the amazing Razer Stealth Blade laptop ( which would also allow me to get rid on my PC, because you can get and external GC and play "for real" from your laptop. ).
Problem is, I hate windows with my guts. I'm considering a virtual OSX but I don't know how well that works ?
If some of you are developers and made the switch (or own both), how hard is it to get used to the windows world and the Ubuntu subsystem ?

Hei, ihatetoregister :)

We all know what you're going through. That being said - the update won't be that disappointing, as long as they deliver the "expected" specs (and don't give us a f***ing 15W 13" MBP. As for the Razer Blade Stealth, you can in principle get the same kind of thing going with a 13" MBP, and a Wolfe (lookie here). I think it may be the best of both worlds for you: no pesky Windows to deal with + an MBP, if those end up satifying your personal criteria + powerful graphics on-demand.

Thanks for joining, and welcome to the thread! We're in this for the long haul :)

I just listened to that as well. I'm really bothered by Zac's "ums and uhs." Once you pick up on it, you can't unhear. Where are they getting January / March? Every rumor is pointing to October / end of the year. "Overly optimistic to expect this year?" Zac says, yet that doesn't line up with anything 9to5 is reporting.

I am still going on that expectation of Feb/March from the conversation I had with Apple (store) Manager. Anything before then will be a very pleasant surprise.

Personally I think back to the Mac will be the first Keynote from the new Auditorium in Campus 2 which should be good to go in a few months time, so Im thinking some kind of welcome event in January time.

Coming from the foundations of the future of Apple, with a whole new update to the products that the company is built on.

Welcome among us, just in time for the final rush.
It will be a good one, I promise.
Just remember to follow the rules:

[...]
1 - do not talk about Skylake MBP
2 - do not talk about Skylake MBP
3 - do not speak about USB-C
4 - do not ask about dGPU
5 - if this is you're first in the Skylake MBP thread, you have to ask "when is the new MBP coming?"

Except for that, popcorn and snacks are on the right, beers on the left, couches on both sides.
Feel free to ask for tranquilizers and xanax.
But most important, enjoy your stay!

but mine is getting thin.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope you're right about the update. In any case I'll wait, but I don't know, after all this time I feel it's going to be a wet fireworks ( is that an expression in English ). A bit like the iPhone7 which made me stay on my 6 ...

@Wittysparrow : Thanks ! I live in Norway though so this won't work.

@WRONG : :)
