The 15w versions of the i5-7200u & i7-7500 have already launched, correct me if i am wrong but mba usually use a bit clocked down variants of those two cpus.

"launched" ... I don't think Intel knows what that really means to the rest of the world. According to them the 45W Skylakes w/ 580 Pro were 'launched' in Q1 of this year. Show me ONE manufacturer selling a laptop with that CPU.

This is interesting - Apple polling rMBP owners about variously features that they use or don't use on their rMBPs...

I mean, I always listen to music through a DAC so I won't care if they do away with the headphone jack, but somehow I don't see that flying as well on the Mac. If they do remove it, are they going to put a lightning port in then?

At least they're talking about the Mac, though. That's a good sign :)

How expensive will these new models be anyway? And how much does the price drop for the older models typically?

why are they doing this now? why not a year or 2 ago?

I may be too old school but if I was waiting for the new MBP, I would be pissed if they get rid of all of the regular usb ports and the HDMI port.
The new leaked chasis pretty much confirmed the above. It's all USB-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack. That's it.

Also inb4 "but the other ports still haven't been drilled". What are the chances that you drill all the other ducking ports including keyboard keys, new OLED touch bar resting place, USB-C ports, headphone jack, power button, vents, but forgot drilling the Magsafe and a SD card slot. -.-"

"Yeah let's leave those for last". ....No

While you're not @WRONG your information is. For the MacBook Air, Apple also doesn't use the base processors, but the little-better-ones (not the Core i5-5200U but the 5250U, which has HD Graphics 6000 instead of 5500). So, Apple would use the GT3e-15W-parts for Skylake or Kabylake too, most probably, which are:

http://ark.intel.com/products/91163/Intel-Core-i7-6560U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_20-GHz

And for Kabylake not announced yet. Same timeframe as for the 13'' MBP: Q1 2017 at the earliest.

Call me an Oppenheimist if you want but I would be disappointed if the new MBP had any of the old ports. I'll have to use adapters to connect my current peripherals which is not very convenient but I'll probably get used to it. I'll be satisfied with the 4 type-c and 1 headphone jack that we got to see in the leaked images, clean and simple. I don't have a MacBook so I don't know how much I would like Magsafe...

So your response to a guy saying "show me a mfg currently shipping a high-end 45W skylake chip" is that dell has started shipping a low-end 15W kaby lake chip?

/whatisthisidon'teven

Just goes to show that some people don't know a damn thing about processors, other than a codename name. And actually, he couldn't even get that last part right.

Easy to confuse Sky with Lake and 15 with 45?

At least not in my funny little world.

If it stated it was a 15w cpu in big letters then yes, it would be odd not to confuse it, but as far as I can see there is no mention of the wattage therefore an easy mistake.

Most people don't know the different names of the chips and what they stand for. I certainly don't.

In response to the recent bunch of posts following mine: i wasn't really intending on bashing on @maev. It's easy to get mixed up, as @shareef777 also quoted a post mentioning the new low-end kaby lake procs, which is what probably lead @maev to think we were looking for machines with the new kaby lakes.

What we're all quite frustrated by is the fact that the 45W Skylakes that are supposed to fit the 15" MBPs still haven't been seen in the wild (except maybe the NUC Skull Canyon?)

I know that apple doesn't use the base chip, but all the 15w & 5w variant will be out by the end of the year
so if they are going to update the mba & rmb why not use kaby ?

P.S If somehow the manage to use kaby for the new rmbp, what are they going to use next year ? :p
