  • No, They increased the cost far to much. The Apple i once new loved appears to have disappeared.

Not sure if this correct but I saw intel's roadmap for kaby lake that includes a 28w quad core. That'll be a great boost for the next 13". Maybe that's why there are two fans in it now? Also, what kind gains are expected for the 28w iGPU anyway?

I don't think a 4 core is in the plans for the 28W chips. Everything I see for the 28W series shows the 2+2 or 2+3e (that's CPU + GPU in a sense, 2+2 is 2 core CPU plus regular graphics, 2+3e is core CPU plus Iris Pro).

As far as performance goes, I think the best thing about Kaby Lake is likely to be the 4K video support, which is supposed to bring power usage while running a 4K video stream down a TON. Otherwise its sounding like a typical incremental increase in overall performance.

That's correct, only until CoffeeLake is there a chance for a 28W quad-core part (and a 6-core 45W part). You're looking at mid-2018 for those if Intel actually sticks to their roadmap.

Kaby Lake will have 15W and 18W quad cores.

When is that from? The latest one I've seen doesn't jive with that.

edit - I see it's from August. 15W quad-core? Seems a bit much given what Intel has been (not) accomplishing lately. Every other roadmap leak I'm finding on Google doesn't show these either, only quad-core mobile parts I'm seeing are 45W...

This one also from notebookcheck isn't showing those quad-core U parts... strange

I am also waiting for KBL, I'll probably pre-order a 13 inch non-touch panel MBP (don't stop offering them!) the day they announce the new KBL units.

Not spending $1500 for a device with an already-obsolete CPU, sorry.

To be fair it's not obsolete they just didn't bring it out quick enough.

With Kaby Lake will we most likely have the option of 32Gb Ram?

I rather have a faster clocked CPU than a 4core slower in Ghz, mainly because I have a desktop 6core hackintosh for mutlicore power needs (music producer and video editor).

I'd like to see number before I make a purchase

If apple were to make an updated 17"? I'd consider it (would depend on the specs/price ratio).

Do I expect Apple to? No, which is why I don't campaign for it.

...so you'll only 'campaign' for something if you expect apple are going to make it!?!?

Kaby Lake will have 15W and 18W quad cores.

That just means the the low air/ air replacement pro's are going to get quad cores.

We got a picture from a presentation where we can see the dual-core U-series processors (15 and 28 Watts, with Intel HD Graphics and Intel Iris Graphics) and also a quad-core version with Intel HD Graphics and 15-Watt TDP, as well as a more powerful quad-core version with Intel HD Graphics and 18-Watt TDP within the more powerful H-series lineup. Both chips will, however, probably need some time and should be released in the second half of 2017.

I find this more interesting as the H series is going to have a 18 watt CPU. That's less than half of the 45W H CPUs. This could push battery life up past 12 hours on the 15" pro's.

I have a feeling this is the thread to be at.

I'm all about the 15" and I only see the 13" receiving the Kaby Lake bump.

Look at the Intel roadmaps. 13" update every year, 15" update every other?... I sincerely apologize for saying that.

Component limitations aside, isn't it rumored that Apple is looking to transition to a 3-year cycle for their favorite child, the iPhone? What does that mean for the Mac, the child they forgot at the bus station and then just said "**** it"?

We'll see how this plays out.

Kaby Lake can go suck it. CoffeeCanon Lake or bust. :p

If this lineup really did improve a lot of faults with the latest pro computers, I might consider. Doubt I'll look into Kabylake. Until then, MBA and built PC it is

Imagine if they do come out on time but Apple goes with Kaby Lake... Can we expect a Tiger Lake thread then? :p

That H series 18Watt is weird. Has there ever been an H series with 18 Watts?

Highly credible Kuo has spoken: this thread should be renamed to
Waiting for Cannonlake MBP thread :)
https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/31/macbooks-2017-price-cuts-32gb-ram/

Cannonlake wont be ready by then, I can bet whatever I have on that.

It's taken a while to get where we are now. I think we'd be waiting for a while for a haptic Touch Bar. 32 GB may be an option with the more efficient Kaby, maybe?
The haptic touch bar will probably 2 years away. Remember when the first Unibody MBP was release and a few years later the rMBP. I think this will be similar.

So probably in 2 years, we'll see touch bar and haptic feedback on all models. Which makes sense as that's when Cannonlake is expected.

As for me, I think I'll wait this out for KabyLake as it'll come with better iGPU, likely lower price tag and more accessories in the market. Oh and I'm aiming for the 13" rMBP
