Especially considering Apple decided not to use Iris Pro 580 in the 15". Unless they use it in the new 21" iMac, then I wonder if Apple is done with Iris Pro.
Actually I'm happy Apple didn't go for Iris Pro in the base 15" as it allows me buy a 15" with 460 and to be honest the fan at ~2000 RPM manages to keep the laptop cool even during rendering with Fusion 360

When will apple release a PRO notebook?
Holy cow that is a monster. It's size harkens back to the days of luggables. I wish he stated (or I missed it) the weight. Given that it needs two power bricks I don't think this runs on a battery, or if it does that run time will only be a few minutes

Edit: its 18lbs - now that's a heft machine

I was referring to the chips for the 13" MBP (15W and 28W, I think). Sorry for not being clear.

Apparently these come with an Iris Plus 640 / Iris Plus 650.

The 15" has its dGPU, so the integrated graphics (HD) may not be so important at the moment.

No problem, I also always think about the 15", when referring to the MBP.
The point is, switching between a powerful iGPU and a dGPU will improve battery life, so having something not-so-powerful as the Intel 630 won't be good...

If you're looking for the 15", KL won't bring much improvement except probably better battery life (and this could be more Apple then Intel).

But unless Apple do something "magical" and use new terraced batteries, how much could be the improvement? One hour, maybe? I believe this Kaby Lake MBP is going to be just a slightly spec bump, as the 2015 MBP was.

Feels weird to see senthor, WRONG, ihatetoregister and everyone else here. Reminds me of the good ol' days of Waiting for Skylake. I'm just here reading this thread from my Skylake MBP. :p
Reminds me too. But there are some fellas missing. Where are @Dydegu 's memes?! :D
And most of all, I think this thread could really use some kind of guru, a user that could bring us prevision about the upcoming KabyLake MBP, or at least one of its three prototypes...

Speaking about the Predator, what's the point of that?! o_O
Given price, specs and weight, is probably way easier to buy a 21" iMac and carry it around.

Gaming laptop for LAN parties, notebook you bring to your summer/winter vacation house with all your data and setup, notebook to demonstrate software/videos/games to clients. I can see a lot of specialized uses. Maybe its a virtual penis extension?

Yeah it kind of annoys me that the iGPU on the 15" is weaker than the iGPU on the 13". It means that when using the iGPU (which, when having "switching" enabled, seems to be most of the time), you're getting less graphics power than the smaller laptop. Either way, I leave "switching" off and just have it run the dGPU all the time....

When would be a reasonable time for Apple to release an updated mbp with Kaby Lake?

To be honest I think WMC still feels to early given the recent supply chain boost needed to meet the high demand of the new mbp with touch bar. I'll try and keep track of these updates in my new blog. However, I don't think I can wait for an update either way. New MBP 15 needed ASAP (the price though!)

My guess is Autumn 2019, but that depends on whether the three people working in the Mac division manage to get to it so quickly, with iMacs needing USB-Cs first.

That would be SUPER LATE? I truly hope not. Then I fear Apple will see a major decline in sales. Also, I'm gonna need it before that :)

Not sure if you got the sarcasm, though the prediction may not be too far off the mark. :) Seriously, I think we could see an update around mid CY 2017 or possibly fall, which would be one year.

I think the KL upgrade is minor enough to qualify for a “silent” 13" refresh, so anywhere March – June.

Switching happens automatically without hiccups, so why choose to disable it and run full dGPU when you'll only need that extra power depending on what you're doing? The 530 while not as powerful as 540/550 is still a pretty decent iGPU (works fine for browsing and streaming HD videos)

What are the chances Apple brings back MagSafe charging with the 2017 refresh???

It is the number one reason why I have not pulled the trigger on the new Late 2016 MBP.

So how about that IGZO panel? That should be exciting. Should I return my 2016 MBP and wait for Kaby?:D

I should clarify that I use my laptop plugged in 90% of the time. The 10% of the time I don't, I enable switching to save battery.

Next to nil. But I've already written about why USB-C is better than MagSafe :)

0%.

If that's your only reason for waiting I'd order one. Dropping Magsafe lets you a) charge from either side b) if your cable gets worn out you don't need an entirely new charger and c) allow you to charge from battery packs or other USB-C chargers.

There's a tinnnnnyyyy chance Apple tries to do a breakaway cable like what Griffin has done, but I wouldn't count on it.

Interesting. Where can I read what you wrote?

I think everyone should return their 2016 MBP and wait for the 2025 forever lake update. It will be ground breaking.
What do we know so far about the Forever Lake? Is that before or after the Eternal Lake? There has been discussion of the Quantum Lake, I don't like the idea of it slipping into parallel universes; that's just me.

Skylake
Kaby Lake (1H2017) / Coffee Lake
Cannonlake (10 nm, yay) 2H2017
Icelake 2018
Tigerlake. 2019

There are names still to be revealed if and when Intel develops 7nm and 5nm processes. But that's in the 2020s.
