So this year along side KL we will get igzo panels also...
I wonder if the 15" will be updated with what cpu and what dgpu? They will keep the same dgpu 2 generation?

It's entirely possible that Apple will hold of going to IGZO and just give the terraced battery in this year update cause Late 2016 MBP is already a big update, so if they update it with IGZO and terraced in 2017, what other update will they say in 2018?

Also if I recall AMD got nothing new for 2017, so it's entirely possible Apple to just do a silent update for the MBP line in 2017, since it'll just be terraced battery and new processors.

My guess is in 2017 will be more on iMac and MacPro, then MBP.

In 2018 we will have a new architecture cpu and 32 gb ram with new dgpu..so for a silent update this year to be worth, fill the empty spaces with battery and igzo panels

Now that it's 2017, we really need a "Waiting for the 2018 MBP" thread. It seems like it's completely necessary. Maybe even a "Waiting for the 2020 MBP" thread. Because I care GREATLY who is waiting and who is buying. /s

Haha, laugh all you want but it's very plausible since AMD will be releasing their Vega cards and with how many people complaining about Apple can't build a powerful computer, we might see Apple proving critics wrong in the form of a updated MacPro

I'm guessing that this year we will see IGZO displays and a terraced battery inclusion to go along with new Kaby Lake CPU's. All three will work in combination to improve battery life, which Apple has been absolutely hammered for in the press recently.

I've always had a major gripe with MS and W10's text scaling and UI. However Project Neon seems to have fixed both...perhaps I'm actually waiting for the Surface Pro 5 now instead of the MBP!?
Though I'll still give Apple all of 2017 to make amends to the MBP lineup before purchasing any computer.

The Surface PRo machines are a tablet that can work as a laptop. They use a lower powered CPU and I always considered them (rightly or wrongly) a MBA or MacBook competitor. I had a SP4 and it was great, but I moved up to a surface book and that definitely has a better feel to it. Just a heads up on that :)

Looks like we'll have to wait for Project Neon's release however.

Or, you know, Apple will prove critics right again not being able to build upgradeable up-to-date workstation and abandon it for years...

Well, it's similar to MBP non-touchbar.

Well I doubt they'll ever build a user-upgradeable workstation though I'm pretty sure if they want to, they can build it.

Yea...I'm not sure why they choose not to keep their workstation product current, even if it's just a minor refresh.

The MBP NTB uses the processor that the MacBook Air would have gotten in an upgrade.

Seems to me the fact that apple has quietly pushed the default resolution to 1680x1050 is quite telling. I think we'll see a mid year refresh with kaby lake, terraced battery and 3360x2100 IGZO retina display.

The 12" MacBook has had 1280x800 as the default resolution while the display is only 2304 x 1440. That didn't change with the 2016 update so I wouldn't get my hopes up. But I do agree with you that a change to IGZO would give them a reason to bump up the resolution.

The reasons I won’t buy it: 90% touch bar, 10% Skylake.

I heard the OLED of the Touch bar could wear out (as any OLED does). Specifically the blue color might be affected. I don't have a link to that. Could that mean that in 4 years (after Apple care expires) the touchbar loses it's color?

Yes, there's no way around that. The light of the OLED pixels gets dimmer the more they are used. Blue pixels will wear out the fastest and you'll see a "burn-in" effect. I'm expecting this to show on the esc key first since it is fixed in place and almost always on. Apple put a 75 second timeout on the TB but it will light up again as soon as you touch the MBP. We'll have to see how good these OLED panels can hold out a few years from now.

Ugh. Are there any long term experiences from phones? This could be a hit on resale value.

It looks like this. But I think this is a store unit that has been on for a few months at high brightness. We don't really know how it's going to look like on the touch bar. I've also seen a Nokia Lumia phone that was even worse than this in a store.

This is what Android users with OLED screens have to do to prevent burn-in http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/save-screen-prevent-burn-in-amoled-screens/.
