I think matte black is the next logical color to choose fro the Pro. The the first generation MacBook came in Black and it was quite popular. Also, it would compete well with the Razer laptops.

Oh god I remeber.
I had bought a BlackBook back then, altho you had to pay like 200€ more compared to an identically specced white MacBook. Still... it was soooo worth it!

Agree completely. People have told me to wait until the fall, but what happens when that comes and gos and there's nothing to be shown? Or worse... they do update slightly, I go to get it and it doesn't arrive until 2018? Or even worse than that.. it doesn't meet peoples expectations and I read 1000 "wait a few months, the update is coming out (again) posts?

buy now.

i am loving mine and i just got it. Waiting for the fall if you already have cool stuff you would do with it seems like way too long.

Yes we are.
I'll summon @Dydegu's dank memes too.

/btw I don't want to be too much OT.
I'm terribly curious about the new 15" "Pro" Ming Chi Kuo was rumoring about.
I hope it won't outclass my MBP too much
:(

Oh god... yes. I am so curious about this machine. I still got a 17" early 2011 machine and am really due for an upgrade.
Only reason I didn't buy this time around was that I already have 16GB but really actually need at least 32GB. I am pushing the limits of 16GB... and I want to keep the new computer for a couple of years…

I have a feeling when Apple releases 32 GB we will start to see sooo many threads, do I need 16 or should I go with 32?

Since OLED is most likely coming for the iPhone, when do you think Apple will incorporate OLED into its laptops?
As far as I'm concerned, hopefully never. OLED screens look great, I get that, but the burn-in problems are enough to put me off them for anything where I'll have things that are constantly present, like the menu bar or interfaces for applications I use frequently and have open for hours at a time. I'm an artist and the idea of having an expensive computer permanently damaged by IR is just not something I'm prepared to deal with.

S7 deals with it by moving interface elements that are constantly described by one pixel every now and then. I don't notice it at all. Still, I can't tell anything about actual burn-in, I had the phone for 7 months and so far zero complaints. Maybe Apple could do dark mode in menu by default and use the same 1 pixel technique, still, it's not going to work for actual apple menu logo. And dock.

Hmm.

But also burn-in in screens would prompt you to update fa$ter, which i$ alway$ a good idea when $hareholder$ are concerned!

It's really the more permanent fixtures that concern me. I hide my dock to give me more working room, but that leaves the menu bar and then my hours and hours of application use, although even now I do use dark modes whenever they're available.

A friend has an OLED TV and has had similar problems to the ones I have with my old plasma screen, namely permanent burn-in from things like Netflix menus and also the formatting boxes that turn up when you want to watch old 4:3 television shows (or in some cases movies that for some inexplicable reason were never given a widescreen release). There are settings like the one you mention that are meant to offset it, but if you have an element in place for long enough that won't really help in the long run. And I use things like Photoshop for vastly more cumulative hours than I watch television.

It's a shame, because those displays really are beautiful. Of course, I have a 2010 MBP, so almost anything is beautiful by comparison...

the refresh model had better have a security lock slot. I can keep an eye on my personal laptop. But in corporate environment, or in edit suites and such we want to lock down anything that cost several grand and can fit in a backpack. I'm not sure who is the gap toothed idiot at Apple that thinks it is a good idea to remove these from the whole line.

People always want the next when all they need is what's currently offered.

Its not just about wanting the next thing, its also about future proofing what your buying. Alot of people here keep their MBP for 4-5-6 years.

Im currently on my 2012 MBP and was waiting to buy this years refresh and skipped specifically because of the 32 GB ram issue. I bought 16GB of ram in 2012...im not buying 16GB of ram in 2017 to keep until 2022...

So what will happen when the next edition comes out, and these forums of people tell you they are waiting for 64 GB because 32 GB is already on other laptops and "outdated"? Will your reasoning be you need more? If you can manage and use 16gb since 2012, chances are you don't need 32, you want it for this future proofing". In 2012, I'm sure you said the same about 16gb being future proof and so far... It's served you well for the past 5-6 years. Stop chasing the future specs and use your computer for what you use it for. You can't predict what may or may not happen in 2022, or 2017 in that regard.

Ah c'mon. That's total ******** right here.

In 2012 he (like me myself) got by with 8GB. Opting for 16GB knowing that it would probably be enough 4-5 years down the road. If right now, like I am, he is pushing 16GB to the limit already... how and why would be buy a machine with the exact same amount of ram?
Yes CPU and GPU are a bit faster... true... but if you need huge amounts of ram... then that is what you need.

If by the end of the year they DID offer 64GB... I'd even opt for this. I'll go for the highest amount available. Needing 32GB NOW... and not willing to get the same amount I had in my 2011 MBP from 6 years ago!

Final point...
Yes... there is always something new and better right around the corner... still there are points when it makes SENSE to purchase a machine and when it doesn't. If your computer breaks... and you NEED a new one... get one. If you have one and you can wait... then sometimes you should.

Like in 2005... after the Intel Switch was announced... it would've been foolish to buy an G4 iBook... people playing it smart waited a couple months... and got a VASTLY superior machine with a much better longevity.

Same thing happened in 2011 when the 15"/17" MBPs moved to Quad Core CPUs. These machines are STILL pretty okay today... with Thunderbolt, Quad Core i7, etc..
A Dual Core 2010 MBP w/o TB... not so much.

The same thing is happening now with the much anticipated iPhone 8/X/Edition. People that don't REALLY need an iPhone right now... are smart and wait for it.

How many years, and for how many generations,
the best thing a mbp can have,
is a quad core cpu?

I know, it is an intel topic...

But I got a mbp in 2011, and then another in 2013, both with quad cores,
and still in 2017 we talk about quad core cpus.
So this is it? Just a few mhz more, and we are done with cpu's
in our future mbp?

I hope to have a really significant cpu update in my future mbp, this year, or the next one,
but it seems that the clock has stuck in 'quad cores' for almost a decade...
like everything changes, but cpu remain the same...

I hope to have a really significant cpu update
I think we're at a point in product maturation that the days of double digit performance gains are a thing of the past.

Intel realizes this and they're trying to put more features into the CPU, like including HEVC/H encoding and further power saving features.

Agreed, buy now.

Mine 13" is on the way. My first Mac product, switched from Dell Windows 10 laptop.

I watched a lots of review from YouTube and did some research on the web. Although rumors saying MBP will get an update to Kaby Lake CPU in 2017, not sure about that. I do not have the number, but I think the current MBP should be selling quite well, don't think Apple will update it so soon...

It will be hardly a big jump in terms of performance from older generation to next generation CPU, maybe some extreme user might see the difference. Intel always claim 10% ~ 30% improvements on cup processing power, graphics, etc, those mostly on testing, but the impact to our real life is minimal.

So buy now, enjoy using it now.

Cheers...

The memory craze is a bit ridiculous. I'll admit that 8 isn't really enough anymore, especially for people who do photo-editing like me, but very few people actually need 32 or more.

That comment is a bit ridiculous as there are millions of people wanting and needing at least 32GB

That's only because people want more than they need.

Folks got 256gb iPhone 7's and will for sure be hoping for 512 & 1tb iphone 8s
