There are really good tutorials on building Hackintoshes for 1/3 of the price, I hear.

For light use, I've been running iOS in a virtual machine on a Dell XPS 15...I turn off the animations and stuff in the OS, but it's pretty good. Give it 8 gigs of RAM and 2 cores.

How hard was it getting OS X in a VM?

The last time I did that (snow leopard), it required a fair amount of work.

If you search online you'll find instructions for sierra. It was very easy. The only thing I had trouble getting to work was iMessages....but I didn't try that hard.

Haha maybe its just the "new" tag from last year
It's an easy mistake to make – check the small text out...

It should really say "the very well aged, like fine wine" or "the rather mature Mac Pro".

Currently holding out for the next model that:

a) Has AV1 hardware decoding (maybe in cannonlake?)
b) Ideally has 802.11ax wifi, though not a big deal

Seems like waiting for optane is pointless right now since the capacity/price is so high.

After using 15" 2016 MacBook Pro for several months, I would like its successor to have:
  • 32 GB RAM option. I run VM and many tools. I am constantly running out of RAM.
  • Better Touch ID key texture and mechanism. The key feels out of place.
  • Dedicated Escape key that mirrors Touch ID key.
  • Taptic Engine on the Touch Bar.
  • True Tone display.

So you're happy with the keyboard and battery life? It's one of the main complaints on these forums...

Not OP, but I actually love the keyboard. It makes typing a lot faster and more stable. I notice myself making less errors. It's an adjustment, but I think it was a very wise choice by Apple and I'm glad they changed it.

Battery life isn't noticeably worse than 2014 rMBP that I was using. It is worth noting that I never got amazing battery life as what I do is very taxing in general. I get about 3-4 hours of battery life but I usually push RAM to the limit and CPU utilization is rarely below 15%.

I would say that in my case, battery life is actually somewhat better.

As for the keyboard, I got used to it, but one of the keys did get stuck and required a visit to the Genius Store. I am NOT crazy about louder key switches, but I can now type about as quickly and accurately as older MBP.

I was never a fan of half sized function keys on older MBP, so I don't see Touch Bar as regression either. I am using BetterTouchTool and created custom Touch Bar shortcuts for apps that I use frequently.

I got my new 13" MBP with touch bar last week and so far the battery life has been amazing. I cycle the battery everyday since I work from home but I have been seeing it last me the whole day before I plug it back in. I usually end the day at around 5pm and still have 20-40% battery left. Granted it has only been a week but I have been very impressed compared to my ageing 2014 MacBook Air.

As for the keyboard I have taken to it right away. It is really excellent and I love how fast I am able to type on it. As was said above I feel much quicker and make fewer mistakes using it. Personally I don't understand where these complaints are coming from, to each their own with the keyboard but battery life should be pretty universal?

I did not believe all the haters who were blaming Apple for the worst keyboard EVER.
Yesterday I went to an Apple store to try it out on my own.
Well. What a nice machine (both 13" and 15"). But damn ... they are pretty heavy compared to my MBA 11".
Played around a little bit with 12", 13" and 15" all new models. Wrote some little texts in Notes etc.
The keyboard for me is .... "ok" . I could get used to the key-travel I guess. But hell..they are loud as **** if I wrote the way I do usually.
TouchBar really looked and felt gimmicky for me. TouchBar Display doesnt look too well imo.
I really need a new MacBook/Laptop. But right now the only tempting one would be the Surface Book with dGPU.
Nice form factor. 2in1 device. Modern design. Good ports. Good keyboard. dGPU. But the price. wow. Apple-like.
Guess I need to stay some more years with my MBA 11" from 2011 8[

really excited about the idea of the new MacBooks going back to the name "Powerbook" or even the new Macbook Air 2017 having retina display, apple pencil compatibility with trackpad (not on the screen, i actually don't want that at all) and pleaaaaase no touchbar. Touchbar looks like such a disappointing mistake, and many engineers at apple must be kind of embarrassed that Apple decided to release something to trick the public with a gimmick and very low utility.

I hope we get processor updates at WWDC, and I hope the new models include:

- Retina touchbar (the current one looks washed out, imo)
- Haptic touchbar
- Better battery
- Better price
- HDMI port? (I can dream)

When you find one those many engineers who feels that way, let us know.
Kumar Patel, G V Loganathan, Mohan Sharma, the list goes on

Dilbert is too busy designing new iMacs all on his own to confirm or deny those speculations.
See previous reply. How is the kool aid? I think you will find that many people are not as excited about touchbar as you, but this isn't exactly news is it.

Can't wait for REAL Powerbook/Macbook Pro, and I know I'm not alone

LOL.

I really have to learn to add "JOKE" and "/s" to my posts every single time.
Actually it's me, I need to read posts more carefully because that was funny, I hope Dilbert does work for Apple, I would trust his decision making!
