If they consider the far weaker US dollar compared to last summer when the current prices were calculated, EU pricing could be lower this time around. I expect a roughly 1:1 USD / EUR currency conversion (obviously the EUR price will still include VAT).

I really hope that they won't rise the prices.

MacBooks are expensive enough as it is, not counting all the recent mess ups. I feel Apple is in a position where it needs to gain back the trust of a lot of users (MacBook wisely, of course). If they lower the prices and release a worthy model they'll be back in the game in no time. I'm hoping this is the case, obviously

Comparable pricing:

Microsoft: (24:23)

Surface Book 2: $1,199.00 (US)
Surface Book 2: £1,149.00 (UK)

Google: (1:1)

Google PixelBook: $999 (US)
Google PixelBook: £999 (UK)

Dell: (10:9)

Dell XPS15 9560: $1,999.99 (US)
Dell XPS15 9650: £1,799 (UK)

Dell are the winners!

If they increase the prices in EU, Apple has gone mad.

Currently, 15", 2.9, 512gb, 560 is in Apple.com , 2799$
2799$ = 2271€ (This ofcourse doesn't include VAT) With 24% VAT it's, 2816€

ATM. same spec 15" costs in Finland (Apple.fi) 3400€. Thats 4189$

Prices in EU are absolutely insane with the new lineup, and given that the dollar has gone down compared to euro. If Apple doesn't do anything to this, and heaven forbid they actually INCREASE the prices in EU. I really have to then consider if its worth the money....

Some people expected that the March 27th event is possible to see new MBP 2018.

But something...

OK, we know Apple use Intel "U" for 13" and "HQ" (or "H") for 15".
And now the "U" is already released. Such as 8250U, 8550U or something.
BUT for the "H" (8750H or something) is not yet for now, right?

So, Is it possible to see new MBP in March 27th event? (Please let me know if I say anything wrong)

What's a MBP configuration that they should always have available next day with store collection? The 13" or the 15" base one? Just to know what I can use to check any availability issues they might have, to inflate my hype basically.

The only option I can currently see for 15" models released this month would be the Kaby Lake refresh G series chips. These are basically a quad core chip like the 7700HQ with an AMD GPU bolted on, so you'd get virtually no CPU improvement and I believe a decent bump in GPU performance (to around the level of a GTX 1050ti from what I've read).

Bloomberg states next week will bring cheaper iPads, but likely no new Mac laptop yet

In Chicago, the world’s most-valuable technology company plans to show off a new version of its cheapest iPad that should appeal to the education market, said people familiar with the matter. The company will also showcase new software for the classroom, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private plans. Apple declined to comment.

A new, cheaper MacBook laptop is in the works and likely destined to replace the MacBook Air at a price less than $1,000, but it probably won’t be ready in time for next week, the people said. The MacBook Air, introduced about a decade ago, hasn’t seen a major change since 2010, the same year the iPad came out. Although the laptop is popular with college students, it has languished as Apple focuses on more expensive Macs.

Pretty much as I had expected, if there were to be a mac at this event it would almost certainly have been a stripped down and locked down version to run only software on their new education platform.

The MacBook Pros are almost certainly going to be a feature of WWDC at this point...

As a recent product comparative, Homepod pricing was actually close to the Dell figures ($349 vs £319) so one would expect any new Macs announced soon would be reflective of the recent exchange rate movement.

Except that the 8250U and 8650U support only Intel UHD 630 graphics, not Iris GT3, which means if Apple used these chips the graphics performance would be worse than the 2017 models.

edit: It's actually the 620, not the 630

Hey guys, I've been watching this thread for a while now in order to keep upto date on any MacBook Pro release rumors. I joined upto today because I've found myself caught in a buying dilemma and haven't been able to get much input from anyone, so here it is:

My situation is that I have $4000 that is essentially marked for a laptop, but I will be able to keep the remainder. The laptop will be my only computing device, I'll be working in MacOS but I'll be dual booting windows for gaming (likely getting an eGPU set up when needed). I'm trying to think about processor longevity (3-5) years with this use case in mind.

The decision:

I can currently buy a second hand 15inch 2017 MacBook pro with 3.1ghz processor, 1tb SSD, radeon 560 4gb, and 16gb of ram for ~3200 (I might be able to get the seller to knock 100-200 off as the laptop hasn't been selling due to the high price). I would then pocket the 800-1000 remaining dollars (maybe use some of it for apple care). Priced out currently with edu discounts and tax this would cost ~$4280 from the store so it's a pretty good deal.

Or

I can hold out until June 4th with the hopes that they release a 6 core laptop which I feel would ensure that the cpu is useful for years to come. However, I would have to pay more and would likely only be able to afford a 500gb SSD, and a lower clocked processor. This estimation is based off current models which cost ~$3600 for the Radeon 560 4gb, 2.9ghz processor, and 500gb SSD (priced with edu discounts and tax).

So I'm looking for opinions. Is the minor increase in clock speed more beneficial than the two extra cores at a lower clock speed for current and future games. I also suppose I need to consider that 6 cores is not a certainty in which case waiting might not be the best idea. Anyways I'd love to hear some thoughts from people who are also waiting for an announcement (sorry if this is derailing the topic).

Disclaimer: All prices are in Canadian dollars. Additionally, I understand MacBooks aren't the best bang for your buck in regards to gaming and are not necessarily meant for gaming. Thanks for the help!!

If you can wait, then wait. I had to buy one now because I couldn't wait, but if you can, why shouldn't you? Unless it's harming your productivity, WAIT!

Hahaha thanks for the response! I may try to hold out. The only reason I wouldn't wait is because the 1000 dollar discount that goes in my pocket is pretty substantial and I'm not sure if 6 cores will yield enough of an upgrade to warrant that much extra money. Also the second hand laptop deal likely won't be around until June. I hate decisions .

I’m not as knowledgeable as many people who are far more active around here, but if I was in your situation, I would try to hold out for a couple reasons:
1. The MBP you’re considering buying doesn’t have Apple Care (unless you just didn’t mention it). If something were to go wrong with the keyboard (of which the frequency of occurrence is still debatable), you’d be down a few hundred bucks to get it replaced.
2. Even if you don’t get the 2018 MBP when it is released, the 2017 models would drop in price at this time, so you could still save some money.

Not true, in my country, if there is a dispute, you can bring the case in front of a panel where experts are asked (for like $20). The Panel is non binding for the companies, but after that you can escalate to a court and they always side with the panel.

Yes... so what I said is 100% true. Because I said this is the EU law... which sets the BARE minimum of what every EU member HAS TO stick to. Ofc countries are free to HAVE stronger rules supporting the customers. Like in your case.

For those still holding out hope for a March 27 MacBook Pro announcement: Prepare to be disappointed.

There is no live stream for the event.

I mean they’ve done simple press releases for updated Macs in the past. I still agree no new MacBook Pro’s which should be obvious as the chips haven’t even been announced yet. Apple won’t refresh anything until intel makes the chipsets official.

Yeah the event will see the release of a cheaper iPad, possibly a new pencil, and maybe a new color option for the iPhone X. Other than that, I wouldn't expect any new products. I mean, it's an event at a high school. That's not usually where they go for big product releases.

Nice high school auditorium though. :)

I'm new to this thread, and I realize there's been much discussion of the issue, but I don't understand one basic question: Has there been any announcement or other indication that a new MacBook Pro is slated to appear in 2018?

No announcements, just speculations based on Apple release habits.
