I think there’s two ways it could go:

  • WWDC 2018 release, spec bump
  • September-October release, redesign
To me other options are non-obvious.

I need a.new MacBook Pro latest in June, it has to be WWDC :/ Otherwise I would hate (EDIT: Have to. It seems that the iPad knows how I do not like that idea) to buy MBA 13” / some similarly priced refurb as I would lose more money than the MBA would cost.

I don't think a September-October release (which seems unlikely at this point anyway) would warrant a redesign already. With MBPs, Apple has had so far a steady redesign cycle of releasing big redesigns all 4 years, an inbetween mostly spec bumps and minor refinements and changes. This would put a redesign at around 2020. Having a redesign halfway through this "cycle" seems very unlikely.

Fake. MacBookPro14,1 is the 2017 model.

I know that 14,1 is the 2017 model, and this is not what I asked, and everybody sees that the other link you quotes is fake (its RAM, the 6th generation processor, etc.),
In contrary, the link I quoted may be a machine that Apple is playing with it with the new processors, and still calls it "14,1".

Will just be a spec bump, Apple is beyond predictable these days...

Q-6

almost guaranteed :) Very few surprises unfortunately these days from Apple and I don't really care about any new product unless it has a similar impact as the iPod, iPhone and iPad did on first launch. Everything else has just been a development and improving on existing tech.

I would put money on updated specs, same chassis and maybe a more resilient keyboard in June.

Based on apple's tactics in the previous years, as far as I can remember,
apple update mbp just once a year.
Gone are the days of 2 product updates twice a year, back in the past.
I would prefer 2 updates yearly, but apple has a different opinion.

Bloomberg states next week will bring cheaper iPads, but likely no new Mac laptop yet

In Chicago, the world’s most-valuable technology company plans to show off a new version of its cheapest iPad that should appeal to the education market, said people familiar with the matter. The company will also showcase new software for the classroom, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing private plans. Apple declined to comment.

A new, cheaper MacBook laptop is in the works and likely destined to replace the MacBook Air at a price less than $1,000, but it probably won’t be ready in time for next week, the people said. The MacBook Air, introduced about a decade ago, hasn’t seen a major change since 2010, the same year the iPad came out. Although the laptop is popular with college students, it has languished as Apple focuses on more expensive Macs.

Looks like this was spot on. Someone ask when the new rMBP is coming out.

Well, its now obvious WWDC is the new Mac launch period. This all boils down to quarterly results. Tim wants to spread out the growth over the year, instead of just have one big buying season in the fall.

March to April - new iPads/Education initiatives
June to July - Mac hardware updates
September to January - iPhone, iPad Pro updates

Will be interesting to see what the new Mac Pro looks like come June. Likely won't launch it officially until December 2018.

Wait, why December?

Last year Apple announced the iMac Pro at WWDC, with a release planned for December. They very well may follow the same pattern this year for the Mac Pro.

Personally, I hope this is the plan at the least - it'll be nice to see what's coming with the new Mac Pro, and hopefully that puts the pieces in place for the new Apple Monitor and other devices that may use it, such as a finally updated Mini.

Was desperately waiting for the chance... but now hoping it’s June. On the one hand I can wait a little bit and bear with it on my 2015 MBP 13” (which has been partitioned) but on the other hand having my workhorse now would be great.

But it’s only about 2 months away, seems so near yet so far.

That's what I've got, and to be honest, I'm not feeling the need to replace this laptop. The benchmarks for 2017 MBPs aren't that much better. I'll bet 4 cores will be nice, but if Icelake is coming at the end of the year - I'll probably just wait till those come out.

Unfortunately I work full time online, and while I love the 2015, it’s not fully mine (I just sold my iMac 2015 27” - bad time I know, should’ve checked here first) so this is technically my husband’s.

I’m just hoping for a good replacement. No faulty keyboards, and decent specs for the price. I was THIS close to getting the 15” 2017 :( ugh.

I’m in a slightly worse spot. I’ve sold my mid-2014 13” and am now mac-less until WWDC. I would have put money on a spec bump in April...

I was in the US this month with hope of a refresh becoming available. Ultimately ended up buying the 2017 base model Touchbar 13 inch for my brother. For what he does, he would have been happy even with the Early 2015 model I have. I was planning to get that model because of my concerns regarding the keyboards on the newer models. But to my surprise, the tactile feedback on the 2017 is actually satisfactory. I did hope the 2018 would have been out though just to get the best bang for my buck. The new models are enticingly sleek. Will definitely upgrade next year when I visit the states again or if I get a press invite to the fall 2018 iPhone launch, will pick up the 15 inch.
