Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Serban right about a few things? I agree that he seemed completely crazy at the time, but after he got banned and the event happened he seemed to be right on a decent portion of the information (or at least partially right).

Sorry, but you're not @WRONG, there's only one of him here.
(We're still doing this, am I @RIGHT?)

And of course Serban wasn't lying about anything, he was just talking about the two other prototypes that were not released. ;)

For someone who threw so much spaghetti on the wall, it's shocking how nothing stuck! All of his prototypes failed to predict anything.

Then again, as one of the contributors in "Waiting for Skylake" thread, who would have thought we'd end up with such a controversial semi-upgrade!

2.)GPU. We'll see a mobile Vega at some point (probably the first update after AMD releases a mobile part in the right power range), and that IS significant. GPUs are still getting close to a doubling in power each major generation. Don't expect nVidia - everything out there suggests that Final Cut loves AMD, and Apple's not about to slow their in-house software down to help Adobe! Don't expect anything except a 35-45 watt GPU - both Apple and the PC workstation manufacturers use that level of GPU in their 15" machines. The only possible exception is if an added top model materializes, especially if it turns out to be larger than 15".

I actually thought about this at lately ('especially if it turns out to be larger than 15"'). Like actually seeing a 17" again.

The reason being is when Apple released the Retina MacBook Pro, 4K (which a 17" would be) wasn't even practical. They were struggling to do 2880 x 1800 HiDPI, retina, on the 15", not to mention battery life.

Then the Mac Pro 2013/2014-Jan came out which boasted 3 x 4K30p, and the oohs and aahs.

Now the AMD GPUs have the horse power to do 4K60p, with battery savings. So unless they want to wait for OLED 4K 17" that runs at 120Hz or something crazy, with this I had a "WAIT A MINUTE: the reason they couldn't do retina 17 was because of the GPU!"

Miss my 17" :(

Maybe some day! Those 17" Razor PCs (and others) with the mobile NVIDIA and 4K60p have to be MURDER on the batteries, like 2 hours usage tops!

Aight, Laters...

The midrange kabylake/skylake/broadwell iGPU can easily run multiple 4K60P monitors (either 2 + 1 4K24 or 3 on the never ones).

Anyone have info on when the MacBooks will get ddr4 ram? I'm looking into the 13 macbook pro with touch bar - but I want ddr4 and a quad core.. maybe 2018 or later 2017?

Definitely not 2017. The next refresh is probably coming in March 2018 but I doubt they will switch to DDR4 because the low-power DDR4 probably still won't be supported by the processors they can use in MacBook Pro. I'm guessing the following refresh, either October 2018 or early 2019.

I hope that's pessimistic... 2019 for a basic feature that all high-end laptops other than the MBP and the Surface line support! RAM and ports are the only real omissions on the MBP 15 compared to other expensive workstation laptops (and there's no Apple Tax compared to those either)

I don't care about 32GB memory, just give me a computer without butterfly keys, that doesn't give me reproducible crashes and eliminate the forced upon Touch Bar.

In the meanwhile read...
NONE OF APPLE'S ADDITIONS IMPROVE PROFESSIONAL WORKFLOWS YET, AND ITS SUBTRACTIONS WILL LEAD TO PLENTY OF HEADACHES

Amen to the butterfly keyboard. I know they won't just flat out remove touch bar, but can they just change them into keys again, with a changeable LED Icon... Would solve everything. Who cares about scrubbing, when I change volume, I actually like doing individual clicks on the F-keys to scrubbing as it is (same for on my iPhone, prefer using the hardware keys than scrubbing that stupid bar on screen).

Lastly, I can live without you bringing back the old ports, but could you

a) Get back to the 99wh/76wh battery standard for 15in/13in respectively? You were famous for having ridiculous battery life. Yes you tried to counteract the batttery loss with the screen energy saving, but that isn't much help when I am working with code/calculations, instead of just watching Netflix.
b) Change the trackpad size to it's former glory, so we don't have to worry about palm rejection or other nonsense that the new models seem to inhibit?
c) Magsafe, please, I hate charging using such a stiff connection such as USB-C.

I just wanted to harp on the "Seventeen Inch" possibilities.

How of many of you guys think, Apple just won't make 4K laptop? My predicition is, if they don't want to bring back the 17" the least they're going to do, is make a 4K 16". But this could be like 2019-2020 March so meh, kinda moot but just something to think about.

Cause yeah the 17 is huge (in size), but 4K is 4K...it's a real thing "Pro" wise.

Laters...

if they just remove the bezels we are at 16.5

Are there any news from Intel about 32 gigs ram? I might be getting this year's model as late as the end of September which is pretty close to the event in October where they usually upgrade their macs and I don't want to regret having 16 gb ram when they would release a 32 gb option one after a month.

This is the only rumor we have about 32GB RAM.
https://www.macrumors.com/2017/01/16/kaby-lake-macbooks-ming-chi-kuo/
Interestingly, Kuo also mentions a "15-inch MacBook" that will include 32GB of RAM and enter mass production in the early fourth quarter, which starts in September. He said this model will be "the most significantly redesigned product this year," and he believes it will adopt desktop-class RAM to satisfy high-end users.
This will use DDR4 and not LPDDR4 which is not supported by Intel yet. He got the timing slightly wrong on the Kaby Lake MBP but this is Ming we are talking about so we shouldn't ignore this rumor.

I would like to believe that we will have new macbook pro in October with more battery

However, I think this rumor was a confusion with the new imac pro (available this fall)

Very possible since it starts at 32gb of RAM and is completely redesigned internally (which is the biggest upgrade for the Mac this year).

I don't think we will see any updates to the Mac line for the remainder of the year outside of the release of the iMac Pro. I also believe they numbered every Mac this year just (2017) rather than (Mid-2017) which signals there won't be any other models.

Anyone think there's going to be AMD VEGA (mobile) for graphics in next MBP's?
If Apple will use Raven Ridge APUs in MBPs instead of Intel-AMD CPU+dGPU combo - yes, there will be Vega GPU in upcoming MacBook Pro.

Of course. We'll do it until Apple will release the new Mac Pro (so forever and ever...)

He saw things you people wouldn't believe.
Samsungs on fire off the shoulder of Orion,
He watched USB-C cables glitter in the dark near the @Oppenheim Rant.
But all those prototypes will be lost in time,
like tears in rain.

Yah but didn't he get some stuff right? I feel like some of his ******** actually came true

Mmmh, I don't think so.
The fact that he managed to predict something right was likely thanks to vagueness of his predictions (hence the three prototypes). Something like an horoscope.
Nevertheless, he was a great moment in the Skylake thread Era.

Oh god, yes. Oppenheim. Now that you mention him... I remember him. God, I hated this guy.

I have been feeling empty these past few months.... only lurking on the forums.... then today I decided to stalk @WRONG and see what he's been doing...
I wanna be part of a new Master Thread!
I am still currently toting my 12" macbook (remote in work does wonders) but may be looking forward to the next release in 2018..... We all have wants, right?

Permission to come aboard?

My 2016 15" has been heating up a lot quicker I've noticed. Do these get a build up of dust inside that could be causing this?
