Among other things, it is supposed that at least apple is combined with the best design. So why on earth, they removed the glowing logo of the lid/screen?
Whatever the explanation is, they take back their best innovations(like magsafe).

Cost-cutting. Can’t see any other reason.

So if Apple do release new MBPs on Monday (contrary to rumours), which model are you planning to go for? The 13 or 15?

I travel a lot and was leaning towards the 13, specially because it’ll be quad core now.

However, I love the 15’s much bigger real estate, dedicated graphics and just overall usability.

The only issue is, the 15 feels a bit unwieldy to me. It’s definitey more than 2 inches bigger than the 13 and I just so much prefer the 13’s form factor. The 15 also has a humongous trackpad which kind of puts me off.

Which model are you guys looking forward to get?

A powerhouse 13" is what I want.

Consistency across their line-up, I suppose, aswell as a change in visual style. The MacBook Pros were the only device towards the end to have a glowing Apple logo whereas every other Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV etc. had one of those glossy, polished, reflecting ones. Makes sense to have the same style of logo across all devices.

At first I wasn't too happy about its removal either, but in retrospect I actually prefer the new polished, stainless steel-looking one (not sure if it's actually stainless steel).

I'll probably not decide until I see what the options are, whenever that might happen.

When I last had a 15 it was inconveniently large at times, and inconveniently heavy more often (though the current ones are slightly smaller and noticably lighter). But I also often find myself annoyed by the lack of screen space on the 13. This is probably why I have alternated: any time I upgrade I'm most aware of the shortcomings of what I have currently! ;)

It really is only the screen space for me: I don't give a damn about dedicated graphics, and indeed if they offered a 15 without it that would probably be my choice - reduced cost, better battery life and one fewer thing to fail. It really is hard to build one machine that suits everyone.

But any time I'm thinking of updating Apple release later than they had the year before, so I'd not be surprised if the rumours are true. In which case I hope they use the time well...

If the MBP doesn’t come out, I might just get a 21.5” (since those are stable, though no 5K screen for me) to “tank” until October. Though I’d really like the portability. Either that or just a cheaper windows laptop for my husband and use the 2015 13” (his) until the launch.

Really bummed though. The 2015 in the house doesn’t have remotely enough storage for me. Sigh. And I had the money ready and everything.

After what I’ve read here I’m not super into the idea of getting the 2017s.
[doublepost=1527862772][/doublepost]Can anyone help me out with MBP windows’ alternatives? I know someone listed it somewhere but I can’t seem to find that list. Might get that for Husband first until my MBP is ready.

I'm going to wait now. I really can't be bothered with changing laptop for a new current design. I did the mistake of buying the 2016 model when it first came out and had several problems with it, although fortunately NOT the keyboard as I have a full size bluetooth version which I use most of the time, being a Sibelius user! I have enough tech in the house anyway so don't rely on one machine all the time.

Small changes in corporate policy began to be perceived as slights to those who hadn’t been lucky enough to land at Microsoft in time to become millionaires. When the company decided in about 2003 to save money by no longer providing towels for employees using the company showers, the response was pure fury. The older employees had millions, and the younger ones couldn’t have towels?

“If you were on a team of 10 people, you walked in the first day knowing that, no matter how good everyone was, two people were going to get a great review, seven were going to get mediocre reviews, and one was going to get a terrible review,” said a former software developer. “It leads to employees focusing on competing with each other rather than competing with other companies.”

For that reason, executives said, a lot of Microsoft superstars did everything they could to avoid working alongside other top-notch developers, out of fear that they would be hurt in the rankings. And the reviews had real-world consequences: those at the top received bonuses and promotions; those at the bottom usually received no cash or were shown the door.

I feel this story has some element of what is happening at Apple right now.

Possible if Steve were still around. Impossible under TC.

It's not even so hard...

I have waited several months to get one MBP 2018 trusting Apple would release them in June.

If not, I am not buying one with a bad designed keyboard, so I have no chance but buying a Windows laptop (I really wanted to complete my Apple ecosystem).

Apple, I know you don't mind, but you just lost 2K dollars.

Thinking about a similar move myself quite often. But sadly... Windows is a POS OS and a complete non-starter. The OS doesn't just hamper my productivity... it basically inhibits it.

If the 13" had a quad core I would get that with an external monitor for at home. If only the 15" has a quad core I would get that.

Assuming they are not wrong, another possibility is that it won't get announced, but then gets a silent update.

That’s possible considering they are expect to get spec updates and nothing major overall. Mark Gurman is usually very accurate tho, it’s rumoured he has inside people.

I don’t think it was this. Well not entirely at least.

The logos were lit by the LED backlights in the screen. This wasn’t possible with the newer thinner screens and there obviously isn’t enough room for a separate lighting comportment for just the logo - plus this would add additional power drain on the batteries.

Everyone has their own thoughts on macOS vs Windows but Windows 10 has come along ways just in the past year. Yes, they got focused to much on stuff no-one really wanted, but the latest builds of RS5 show they are focusing more on productivity vs candy features no-one will use. That and you see Windows has been reorganized internally at Microsoft with core going to the server team. That is good IMO. Plus if you look at what they have planned for the Surface Hub 2, that is going to be interesting.

I have both, Windows and Mac machines on my desk and they both have ups and downs as OS's but overall they are both good.

Maybe, but he says that updates are coming later this year for those lines. I don't think we would see a refresh and then an update unless the MBP gets an update and the refresh is more to do with the MacBook Air line.

Personally if they update everything in the fall that is ALOT of items to update have have as new. But we will find out in a little over 72 hours!

My prediction of MBP upgrades at this time were based on the assumption Apple would accept the compromise of Polaris based GPUs. Perhaps Apple wants to push VR harder this year. That would probably require Vega, and a fall release would make the possibility of Vega based MBPs more viable.

Anyhow, if they don’t upgrade the iMac either, then my June 2017 purchase of the iMac and MacBook 12” seems reasonably well timed in terms of Apple’s upgrade schedule. ;)

BTW, my 2017 iMac’s Radeon Pro 575 is probably OK for entry level VR, but that’s moot for me since so far I have just about zero interest in VR.

Not at WWDC Mark Gurman has confirmed this, they will probably update later this year possibly at a October event.
He called it "unlikely". He hasn't confirmed anything officially. I mean there's a good chance his prediction right, but let's not take rumor as fact.

Otherwise I agree – if we don't get a WWDC refresh then the new MBPs most likely come around September/October together with new iMacs and maybe Mac Minis or a first Mac Pro preview, with the strong possibility of a dedicated event.

We will see next week. If it doesn't get announced at WWDC, then give it until Tuesday to see if a silent update happens.

If we don't see anything next week, then that is a soft sign that Vega might be coming to Macs sooner rather than later, and that would include MacBook Pros. To put it another way:

A June 2018 release would mean MBPs with Polaris.
An Oct. 2018 release could mean MBPs with Vega.
