I mean why would they redesign they keyboard so soon. That would piss all the people that purchased the 16 / 17 models of the macbooks. Its easier to play it off later down the future.

Well if Apple really wants to screw up their brand reputation by just lying there and do nothing then yes they could play it off later. But I just saw a news today said that "A Third Class Action has been filed against Apple in California over MacBook Pro Keyboard Problems". If Apple wants to keep charging the premium price on their so-called MacBook Pros, they have to take action as soon as possible now.

God, I’m already picturing this WWDC keynote in my head.

First those numbers about how many people are on ios and mac os. Things are going great. We sold more phones and macs than ever before. But we are not gonna tell you anything about the ****** keyboards in the macbook pro because we dont really care. The iPads have changed the way we educate in schools. Kids love it. Here are some numbers. Blablabla. So much creativity. Don’t get me started about AR Kit. The 1 year anniversary. So much stuff made already with ARKit, its great. It has changed peoples lives. Then comes a video of ARKit.

Then ios:
First Apple Maps, which comes now with newer and better features nobody cares about and contains stuff Google Maps already has.

Then there is Siri, which is slightly smarter and is now able to respond to you in a slightly less ******** way but still quite ****. Oh yeah this ‘Siri’ update is coming this fall. When? Not telling you because we at apple don’t really know either, but we kinda had to release it due to amazon alexa and google ai.

Then animoji:
People love animoji. People made entire videoclips with them. Its great. Heres a compilation of animoji music videos flying around on the web. Oh yeah and were releasing 6 more skins this fall. You’ll love it.

Then there is mac os and specially for all you lovely developers out there.... there is Dark mode. Then Craig starts bragging out dark mode for 35 minutes with some lame programmer jokes to keep dem devs happy in the room.

Then icloud, more safe secure and more reliable than ever before. Finally announcing the first 50gb icloud storage for free.

Then one more thing.. people hoping its new laptop but nope..

It’s the iphone se2. Smaller, better, more fantastic than ever before. Then comes jony with some bragging about how difficult the design process was while making it. Only 900 dollars. Available today.

Then some random band comes on the stage. Happy wwddc week everyone!

LOL @ "dont even get me started about AR Kit"

I am going to cry if this is true... at least the part about iPhone SE2 vs. new MBPs...

I have a feeling there may be another event in late July or early August.

More like October, Apple has a history of every few years holding:

WWDC
September - iPhone’s and Apple Watch
October - Mac’s and iPad’s

There is an outside possibility that Mac’s could be silently updated, spec updates don’t really need an event.

I couldn't access forums.macrumors.com for almost 1 hour (till about 20 minutes ago);
Is it possible that the site was down?
Maybe zillion people are curious to know what is going to be announced at WWDC and the site couldn't meet the high demand?

In all fairness we have to wait and see. As much as I don't care for the 2016 MBP design there's no doubting the cooling system is far more effective than any of it's predecessors.

...

Apple's bigger challenge may be the power limit imposed by USB-C charging, with CPU's boosting up to over 80W. As for cooling only Apple really knows how much overhead it has in the current chassis. If the TDP is inadequate for the new CPU & GPU combination system will throttle or Apple will limit performance.

Q-6
This is kind of my point though. With the current design, Apple seem to have locked themselves in in terms of power, thermals and size. There are of course ways around it, and this is an area where it would be awesome to see some innovation from Apple. And to be fair, your post is the only report I've seen about the new chips being much hotter. I don't doubt your data, but I'd be curious to see if others have found something similar on other models.

I’m just thinking of their back to school campaign in the US. Old models may hurt sales. At least they’ll be in time for the holiday season though.

Back to school usually has a promotion such as getting a gift card when buying a Mac or iPad, in the past this has been on the older Mac's and then new one's have been shown off at an event in October.

There is no 100% with Apple, they might show new Mac's off at the keynote today (after all i didn't think they would last year and look at what they unveiled) OR they could even do a silent update after the keynote or later in the week. If that doesn't happen my best guess is it will be October, especially if we don't see a new iPad Pro either that is reportedly in the works and due out later this year according to Mark Gurman.

Airpower is also due and so is the wireless case for the AirPods, they could be released today but my guess is that will happen in September alongside the new iPhone's and Apple Watch.

WWDC - Software focused (after all it is the World Wide Developers conference so i can't blame Apple here)
September - new iPhones, Apple Watch and release of Airpower and AirPods wireless case
October - Mac's and iPad Pro's with a new design and Face ID (iPad Pro only)

IF Apple announce the iPad Pro at a September event alongside the iPhone's then i can't see them holding an even in October for Mac's just because of a spec update. It all depends on Apple's plans here.

Please update us, this is quite interesting!

If they can’t fit an 8750H in the 15” MacBook Pro due to its extreme thinness and relatively poor thermal solution, they should introduce it in a 17” MBP with enhanced cooling, Vega graphics and an SD slot at around the same thinness. I think many people here would be thrilled at such a prospect. I know I would.

Apple will "crack it" easily new hex core CPU's don't run massively hot for the performance they offer, more the power consumption is far higher.

The new chips only run hotter when the turbo boost ist active on all four / six cores. I haven't seen a single notebook capable of running max turbo frequencies on all cores though, so in the end, the cooling is the decisive factor if the chips run at 1.6 GHz or at 4.2 GHz, which obviously makes a huge difference. But even in notebooks which just swapped chips without improving cooling, the performance was still significantly better than previous CPUs.

Well we’ll find out for sure tonight (or morning for you American friends).

Or this evening (6pm) for us Brits :)

Hello everyone!

Just posting to say that on Geekbench site there is this result for a 14,3 mbp:

http://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/8493093

32gb ddr 4 and hexa core!

I hope it’s legit

Yea that was shown earlier in Twitter and it was pointed out that Macbookpro14,3 is a 2017 MacBook Pro so it’s not new. It could be either a Hackintosh or something like that.

I wouldn’t be surprised about it. After all, Coffe Lake is just a Kaby Lake with two extra cores slapped on top. There haven’t been any improvements in per-core efficiency...

It’s a bit sad, really, that we now came to the point that the CPU tech is stagnating this much. We haven’t really seen any noteworthy per-watt performance gains from intel in over three years. Skylake’s advantage over Haswell is only situational, and neither KL not Coffee Lake bring any real improvements.

Same in German media. 14,3 is not the 2017 model and also the score is very high at geekbench. Much higher than any other MPB

I wouldn't believe all these reports if they have no credible source, the best people to look at are not random sites but people like Mark Gurman, Guiherme Rambo are reliable and know their stuff.

While it's true that the performance per watt didn't increase a ton, it's not true that it didn't increase at all - Intel was promoting a 5 – 7 % improvement due to the more refined manufacturing process using their "14 nm ++" node. Also, four cores running at 1.5 GHz shouldn't produce any more heat than two cores running at 3 GHz, but depending on the use case, the former might be faster. With the turbo boost being as flexible as it is, the new configuration with more cores is always an advantage compared to the previous gen.

It's natural for everything to grow (or shrink in this case) in cycles. Chips run into the power wall, which limits frequency and is no surprise. Chips have shrunk to the atom level. CPU designs have probably largely reached optimal levels in some sense. It's not at all strange that there are diminishing returns for current tech. Instead of moping about the presumed CPU stagnation, you could take the viewpoint that it's a complete miracle that we've come as far as we have already. And you can be pretty damn sure that we'll find ways to leap far beyond what computers can do today, science is just not quite there yet.

And I'm writing this on an 8700K (delidded) which runs quite cool and fast. It doesn't seem to be generating all that much heat at all, so idk.
