Something is going on... I think something slipped in the last month and they delayed the refresh.. Either that or they'll do it via a press release or something.

I doubt that they'll do a October event for both iPads & Macbooks.

Things are looking very weird due to the following reasons :

a) Airpower wasn't even mentioned.. Apple what the ????
b) Competition is already rocking 8th gen and the Quad Core i5 punches the current 13" in the face regarding multi threaded stuff.
c) No new SE or iPad? Are we rallying up for a 3 hour event in September or even a 2nd event come October?
d) So that's it? We missing Back to School in 2018 regarding Macs and iPads?...

I have no idea what the heck is going on over at Cupertino at this point tbh...
Regarding AirPower, they technically aren't late with that one; they only announced it for 2018, so they still have 7 months for that to come true. I'm honestly not surprised not to see it mentioned – I think they are just gonna wait for September with it at this point and then release it alongside the new iPhones and Apple Watches and the potential AirPods v2 since that would give them a market essentially twice as large as it is right now where it's only compatible with last year's iPhones and Apple Watches.

With the rest of your comment I fully agree – it's looking a bit strange that, outside of iPads in March, they haven't announced any new hardware products this year. If they are gonna wait till September/October then that is gonna be a lot of stuff to cover, which is why I'm personally hoping that we'll see a silent MBP refresh sometime between now and October.

Maybe new MacBook Pros aren't quite ready to go on sale but almost, so they just postponed them and will release them silently in a month or so? One can hope? o_O

I caved. $1529 for base TB 13" MBP [refurb] works well and saved me a lot of money, so if I have keyboard troubles, I'm covered. I'll upgrade after the redesign then.

5% back through Discover cuts into stupid CA taxes, so it's not a bad deal.

I have to say I'm extremely disappointed. I've needed a new laptop since last year, and told myself I would buy a new MBP in January of this year. Well, I decided to wait because everyone said they *might* be announced in March, and if not, then DEFINITELY June. (I'm not saying its anyone's fault here on the forum or anything) - but my laptop is on it's last legs, literally. Waiting until June was kind of my hail mary - if I had known, I would have bought a MBP back in January.

Now I'm stuck either buying an outdated MBP now and possibly having a silent release in a week? a month? 2 months? or trying to wait until October? I don't know if my computer will even last until October. I don't want to hassle with re-selling a $3,000+ laptop second hand with the way people haggle and make it a general pain in the ass for expensive items.

Why does Apple have such secrecy around this stuff? Like I mentioned in a previous post this will be my first Mac computer - I'm a long time iPhone user but iPhone's info seems to leak consistently and there aren't any real big surprises about when they come out and what they will have. What gives with MBP? No one knows if/when there will be another one or what?

The keynote seemed fine and dandy and I'm looking forward to some of the new features, but I'm very curious why Apple shrouds its computers in secrecy instead of just saying "They'll be out in October" or something?

I'm also concerned that by October the laptops they release will already be outdated compared to other companies. I've built many high powered gaming and editing computers (Windows) over the years and I've NEVER spent upwards of $3,000+ on any of my machines. I was (and am) ready to spend $3k+ to buy into the Mac system but it's going to be a hard sell if the computers are so late to the game.

Well, look at it this way. Everyone who was ready to throw down $2-$3K on a new MacBook Pro, me included, now has some extra cash for a summer vacation, a drone, a new camera, etc. :)

Ah! In my case I'm afraid that won't be the case. I absolutely need a laptop before mid-August. I was hoping for either a MB 12" with a better keyboard, or a MBP with a working keyboard. There is no way I'm buying either of the existing ones.

So I'll wait a couple of month without holding my breath, but chances are that I'll turn towards a MS surface laptop :(

Already have one that arrives tomorrow. Will compare my MacBook Pro 15 with the quad core Surface Book 2 13.5 with 1050 GTX. Mojave made me think twice, but it all depends. Loved the improvements with gallery view and quick look. Gallery view is kind of implemented in Win10 already.

Too bad I can't buy a Windows phone to match the Surface. Also loved how you can scan and take pictures through continuity with the new OS. Also have a MacBook 12, and I can sell the MBP 15 2016 and return the Surface Book 2 and wait for a bump in specs in October.

After all the time iOS got, I can't stop wondering if the iPad will get a calculator app, since they are trying to target students and teachers.

Still hoping for a silent update, even if this isn't supported by evidence. Otherwise, I think Apple has lost the thread on this completely.

I'm not a pro user--at least not by the standard definition of coder-video-photo-audio editor--but I'm an informed consumer who knows how to use the internet. I'm not buying a mac without a refresh that brings up to date specs and addresses the keyboard issues.

The longer they wait, the less likely I am to buy a Mac since Windows competitors are offering better specs for better value. Apple still comes out ahead on ordering experience and usability, but the gap isn't so big to justify their delay on updating.

I didn't like the surface one bit. It felt too heavy and clunky and the "open" sides bothered me.

The likelihood of a Sept. release doesn't seem plausible to me. Apple has a lot happening in September - new iPads, Apple Watches, iPhones (two of them being completely new - LCD and Plus, possibly SE?), AirPower (most likely). I think an October event solely for the Macs is more plausible, where they would introduce the new MB, and give a sneak peak of the Mac Pro that they are working on.

Exactly the same here! If I would have known I would have bought one in January as well. I'm done now. Getting a Dell.

Well I broke down and arranged for pickup of a MBP 15 inch today.

I couldn't wait any longer. Current laptop is a 2010 MacBook Air and my soul is starting to break while using it.

Well, I have been a mac user since 2008/09, something like that. Mac OS isn't what it used to be, but for me and my needs, it's still the best OS out there. And that is the only reason I want a MBP.

But I need to update now. And I'm 90% getting a Razer Blade 15. Maybe something else, but MBP is out of the question. I'm not paying 1000€ premium for a laptop that has last year specs, especially when I can get more cores for way less €.

I'm going now completely on Windows, except my Macbook 12. But that little computer is used just for surfing, movies, etc. And I will keep it, since I really enjoy it. And it will be my only Mac OS computer from now on.

I will see what Apple does when they redesign MBP in 2020/21, but even then I'm not sure anymore that I want to invest in Apple computers. They have proven year after year that they simply don't care about macs anymore. I already ditched iPhone, and have no plans in purchasing any iPhone in the future.

I just never thought I will go back to Windows completely. But who knows, maybe, just maybe I will purchase a MBP in October. But highly doubtful. I have lost all my faith in Apple and their macs. They always used lousy GPUs when compared to competition, but I always got good quality, and a stable OS. High end GPU is not something I really need, so I never took that as a major minus to macs.

But now even quality of once great MBPs is lost. Keyboard issues that plague the 'Pro' lineup, silly design decisions, and especially touch bar... Well, I really can't see myself paying premium anymore. I'm just hoping that Tim Cook goes into politics or something, that seems to concern him way more then Apple.

Hasn't apple always played catchup with windows in terms of raw specs? The tradeoff is that with a closed ecosystem you minimize bugs, viruses, catastrophic failures which means that actual performance is typically very close comparing same gen. computers.

Ives has acknowledged that the current version of the mb/p and maybe even the mb is a design failure. The question is, will he repeat the same mistakes in 2019 with the redesign?
Because there seems to be no one within the infinite loop willing to question or criticize him or in any way shape or form rein him in.

The mb, mbp and desktops are clearly low priority vis a vis the iphone/ios juggernaut. Apple is making money hand over fist charging a sky high premium and most apple users are willing to pay it with little if any protest.

My message to those interested: don't wait on apple to prioritize functionality and practicality. They are allowing Ives' to obsess about thinness and lightness while Tim Cook focuses on social justice warrior propaganda campaigns like rainbow watchbands and pride logos.

I find it funny that on the product page about Mojave, most of the new features are displayed on a MacBook Pro.

... but we didn't get any new MacBook Pros. Almost like Apple is taunting us
