Ah man I pictured you going up on stage, saying all that so emphatically that you almost spit on the mic, then walking away while everyone is left standing awestruck!

Of course it means nothing. Like I said in my post. But there's nothing else to do is there? All the leakers like Mark Gurmann and Ming Chi Kuo are really quiet about the new MBPs.
Heh, I think you're projecting yourself on me. I'm not anywhere near as emotional about new or old MBP's as many of you guys. It's just hardware after all. However, let me up on stage, and I'll easily find something else to talk about in tech space that is actually worthwhile to get emphatic about :)

But seriously, if you guys are bored, and your best plan is to play fantasy logistics with Apple delivery times on hardware that you didn't even order.... then yeah, you guys are indeed taking boredom to a whole new level. :)

Glad I bought my 2017 maxed out MacBook Pro 15" last year shortly after release. Of course, I also added Apple care, just to be safe for 3 (now 2) years. So far I enjoy using it.

Can I ask your view on the keyboard? I like it when I have tried it in store.

I think if we were only getting a spec bump we would have seen it already. Also, I don't think they can re-release existing keyboard.

I don't think it's so easy this time around; the keyboard absolutely must be addressed, nor are the new 8th Gen hex core CPU's just a straight drop in component, demanding far more power at full Turbo and associated cooling.

Only Apple knows how much thermal headroom the current chassis has and the ability to provide adequate power, equally it would be highly embarrassing to launch a far less performant MBP in the face of the competition. Some of the Windows OEM's are already producing notebooks with 8th Gen H & HK series CPU's without adequate powertrain & cooling net result is vastly underperforming systems for the price point.

Lets see what Apple decides...

Right now I'm seeing 1271CB & 114FPS under Cinebench R15 (Asus S7BS8750), equally similar to a big hill the last steps are by far the hardest...

Meanwhile... as Apple's R&D is deeply immersed in researching & developing the latest watch band tech & color schemes:

Yes, its a truck. But some people still want/need trucks!

They may well do but Apple won't make it. Ever.
Apple are a consumer business, Lenovo are a computer business.

You have a choice to buy this truck as Lenovo makes it just for you and I don't really understand your point. Is it that Apple make laptops for the majority of consumers only that annoys you, or you think that they should also make computers for a small minority of people, even though the vast majority of their business is not computers?
It doesn't make sense to them to do this, and the sooner you realise this the better off you will be.

I should’ve just bought it in March. I waited until June 4, and regretted it. I got the refurbished 15” 2.9 though. And I love t too. The keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, I was so used to the older ones. I often mistype with these and make more mistakes. But so far the 15” is a good buy. Should’ve listened to everyone, if I needed it just buy it. Haha. Now it’s even more crappy for me if a new one launches, but I really can’t wait anymore and it’s good enough for me.

Yes I can choose to buy it, but then I’d have to live w/Windows 10, which is not what I want to do. Apple is still the computer business (thankfully!). Even though computer sales are a small percentage ot their overall revenue, they still come in the top 5 consistently. A company this size with a computer business this size should be able to have a computer division w/adequate focus that can provide more choices, something for everyone, whether desktop or laptop, you know, like they used to.

Laptops running as a dumb client with your data in the cloud is an even worse prospect than not being able to run Windows. Absolute non starter for anyone working with data they don't want to upload.

I don't really have anything confidential or stuff I care about, but every single day I have another 4GB of data from my cameras that goes onto my secondary HDD and then imported into FCP/iMovie - Yeah it's only 4GB, but by that time i'll probably be using 8K cameras and trafering 100GB a day just to have stuff cloud based?

No thanks

I had the first 12" Macbook before and got used to this kind of keyboard. While the 12" was an exiting showpiece of technology, I had to sell it because of its poor performance when hooked to an external monitor in the office. I also got my first USBC dongle at that time and knew about this "feature" of the new MacBooks, too.

In the past, I always had PC notebooks with docking stations at home and in the office. With TB3 I can now have the same comfort with the Macbook. The only thing that I miss is MagSafe, and sometimes the HDMI port (when I have to go back from the meeting room to get that dongle :)).

I was at a Hackathon last night and someone came to present on their mac with 3 dongles hanging out of it. As an owner of a 2013 I don't have this issue yet, but it's the first time I've seen the elegance of the MacBook ruined by the lack of uniformity in peripheral connections. It really did look funny, and naturally the windows guys had a chuckle.

Yes, and this is really sad for this guy. Maybe he should look at Amazon for a better solution! I have a small universal USBC adapter with HDMI, SD card, 2 USBA ports etc. In the past I could only connect two USB devices to my MacBooks, now I have practically no limits. And when you have experienced a fast USBC external SSD, you will not want to go back. But I understand your feelings. When the 2016 MacBooks were announced, I bought a 2015 model (15" no dGPU). When the SSD on this unit failed (everything is now running fine again after a complete reinstall), I jumped the gun with the 2017 model. Today I would no longer suggest to get anything else but the current model!

I'm not expecting Apple to build that, of course, but to be stuck at 16GB of RAM, while other companies can now get to 128GB is embarrasing frankly.

I agree. People can give me all their reasons for not even needing 16gb, current Apple/Intel tech not supporting 32GB it and what not, reality is, competition is supporting 32GB left and right, Apple needs to take real Pro's serious, and "should have been Air users" really should just shut up and let the pro's talk about what they want and need, end of debate!

Come on, this is getting so silly. Let's look at which months MBP's have been launched from the start:

January x2
February x3
March x2
April x2
May
June x5
July
October x7
November x2
Thanks for posting this useful info! I wonder of the October releases, when were they more than 12 months old. Here we are today:

MBPs are big back-to-school items, and it seems like with the second longest span since 2012 and a keyboard that is getting bad press, perhaps it would make sense to do at least some kind of update before too long. If Apple decides to re-do the keyboard and they weren't planning on doing that, of course that could send them longer.

I think the reason for an October release is to not do it in Sept or Aug when back-to-school buyers will have already made their decisions.

Yes, and Apple is now risking that opportunity to some degree. Apple's competitors are promoting their 8th gen hex core laptops.
With a September rollout they missed that window, but they'll secure the holiday season. I suspect even with an October release they'll still be in time for the holiday season.

Exactly!

They should either drop the 'pro' off the model names, or put up already... Or spin off the Mac division and let if take off on its own, because it most definitely would! Lack of leadership... not able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Approaching $1 trillion in value and they still think linearly.

Ok, I'm done venting!
Thx, Joe
