Delivery dates really do seem to mean nothing.
Yes. This thread contains dozens of times when delivery dates have slipped in some countries or even many countries at the same time, and obviously they didn't signify anything.

Probably there will be some slippage when we get close to the actual release, but unless there are other indicators of the release being immenent delivery dates by themselves are about as useful as looking at your tea leaves. And of course if you have enough other indicators that they become probably meaningful, you already expect there to be a release soon...

Get over it people, it’s going to be an October release!
I see no reason to release before Mojave..
While not conclusive, there's some common sense, to releasing a new MBP after (or in conjunction) with Mojave. The new laptop will need knew kexts and what not, why develop those for the older OS and thus add the requirement to support HS and new hardware when HS is going to be displaced with Mojave in a couple of months.

I also think it wouldn't be worth releasing before Mojave, but Apple released HomePod without stereo mode/Airplay2 so who knows :).
Well... why wouldn't it be "worth" releasing before Mojave? I mean these are two very different things. AirPlay 2 and Stereo Mode are at the very heart of the HomePod; without them, the experience was simply incomplete in a lot of ways (and it still is somewhat incomplete now, for example because AirPlay 2/Stereo streaming is still not available from Macs).

The same can't be said for macOS. High Sierra is a very capable system, and while I'm looking forward to all the cool stuff Mojave brings to the table, it's nowhere near essential for getting the most out of your Mac. If the hardware itself is ready two months before Mojave releases then I'd rather have the hardware two months earlier than Mojave and use it with High Sierra for so long.

That's not to say that there isn't some purpose in trying to align these releases whenever possible. For example if the new MBPs were to be ready only a few days before Mojave drops, then obviously it would make more sense to hold them back these few days to save people from the hassle of upgrading right after getting one, and to have Mojave on all the marketing pics. But if we're talking about many weeks or months of difference then there isn't really a reason to hold back the hardware for so long just so it can ship with a slightly "cooler" OS.

That’s for stock options though which are held in significant quantities in depots and won’t necessarily run low on stock (particularly if people have been spurred into not buying) - it’s the BTOs that slip most often (if at all) as they wind down the production lines so will take longer to procure these machines that they don’t tend to have huge numbers of in store. It’s 18th-20th for BTOs here, though I’m not sure that really means anything as @The Mercurian says, though.

Its also possible that sales are low at the moment. Its summer, the current models are behind the competition, they keyboard issue. And if sales dipped quicker than production ramped down there may simply be some stock in the warehouse. And so dipped sales would be a reason to do a refresh sooner rather than later. But the point is the delivery times can be short for various reasons and it is jut reading tea leaves

My tea leaves told me that since July ends with the letter Y, the new MBP will have a Yellow color scheme. And purple. Mostly purple actually, there there's no Y in purple so they had to make the logo yellow. Because that makes sense. And it will be 11 core because the current delay is to July 11. And today's date is 6 so that means it's 6GHz. For reasons.

Except in spanish July is Julio so it must be orange. Well, black mostly.

Then wake me up when September ends?

I'll take that bet. $1 they announce new MBPs between now and the end of September.

What's the cut off for the back to school or college market in the US? Within the next few weeks? In the UK it's around the end of August through September.

Who knows at this point? They’re not following any previously established pattern. The one time the delay was longer than 8 to 10 months, it was a redesign (2016). This is the first time they’ve waited that long (13 months and counting) for an non-redesign (OK, I’m not 100% sure there won’t be a redesign, but that would be very surprising only 2 years after the last one). October would be my guess, but I hope I’m wrong and we see it before then.

It could just be down to supply / yields from Intel now loosening up to the point Apple can secure the many millions per quarter they need. While the U-Series chips were announced in April, during the launch of the K-Series five months earlier supply / yields were tight for some time so that might have been the case again.

Well they've done it for almost two years - they could have changed it for 2017 but didn't, what is a few more months.

Anyway, I won't complain if they come earlier. Can only wait and see now :).

The "admittedly" part is new.

Most of the time Apple launches their Back to School Promo in the middle of the second week of July. If we don't see anything new at the same time as them launching that, I think we are waiting until at least September.

Whenever something is released. Whatever and whenever is is, I'm going to give it a least 3-4 months to see to what extent the devices hold up to the unforgivable harshness of Real Life. Hopefully some of you will do the opposite, so you can report on any early issues that may occur. ;-)

And maybe at the same time, that allows for some early 11xx series laptop GPU's to start showing up, for comparison...

I'm not holding out hope for this, but I feel like maybe part of the wait is a "partial" redesign. I'm thinking it will mostly revolve around fixing the keyboard and giving us thinner bezels. I don't keep up with all the ins and outs like some of you do, so maybe that's wishful thinking - but thinner bezels seem to be a talking point among a lot of people IRL. It may seem superfluous on this forum, but a lot of average joes go "wow that computer looks nice, such thin bezels!" which then makes them think it's better and faster somehow because its thinner and smaller. .... which Apple is obsessed with, so I'm thinking we might see a "partial" redesign to continue pursuing the thinner and smaller.

I won't lie, I would prefer thinner bezels too. It certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker though.

When looking at the competition, it seems like Apple could make the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter while keeping both battery life and performance on the same level (i.e. using chips with the same TDP). I really hope they take this opportunity, since 1.3 kg is on the upper end of what I would like to carry with me all day together with all my other stuff, but I don't expect them to actually change anything significant on the chassis for the next model.
