Most of the time Apple launches their Back to School Promo in the middle of the second week of July. If we don't see anything new at the same time as them launching that, I think we are waiting until at least September.

I get your point, but Jobs was much more of an a**ho*e than Cook. Many of the things they’re doing with Mac just seem to defy logic. One employee at a local Apple Store told me the same thing. He suggested me to wait until next week for a possible silent update and if nothing happens, think of another option. However, an employee from the same store also told me "for sure" that Apple would release a new MBP 2018 at WWDC.

Because under TC's management, Apple became a jerk and an a**ho*e.

Well said. I think this is a point that gets far too little consideration in these forums. Most average customers will go by the look of the device, and by the numbers in the spec sheet. And they mostly don't understand what the numbers mean anyway, just that higher is better. So a pretty obvious strategy for selling more laptops would be to make them look "fast" or "modern" (the minimalist design being one way to achieve that) and then find ways to increase the numbers in the spec sheet at minimal cost, and without outright lying. Bending the rules would be fine with this strategy though, so set the turbo clock really really high, the base clock really low, and then make a really small and light machine that can handle (thermally) the base clock. If it ends up throttling (which it will) and never actually is able to sustain that boost clock in actual use, that doesn't actually matter so much because most ppl won't notice anyway. And of course, thinner bezels could actually be huge in terms of this strategy.I'm not holding out hope for this, but I feel like maybe part of the wait is a "partial" redesign. I'm thinking it will mostly revolve around fixing the keyboard and giving us thinner bezels. I don't keep up with all the ins and outs like some of you do, so maybe that's wishful thinking - but thinner bezels seem to be a talking point among a lot of people IRL. It may seem superfluous on this forum, but a lot of average joes go "wow that computer looks nice, such thin bezels!" which then makes them think it's better and faster somehow because its thinner and smaller. .... which Apple is obsessed with, so I'm thinking we might see a "partial" redesign to continue pursuing the thinner and smaller.
I won't lie, I would prefer thinner bezels too. It certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker though.
Maybe they could drop to 8G max RAM and remove half of the ports, that might shave off 100g and half a millimeter. When looking at the competition, it seems like Apple could make the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter while keeping both battery life and performance on the same level (i.e. using chips with the same TDP). I really hope they take this opportunity, since 1.3 kg is on the upper end of what I would like to carry with me all day together with all my other stuff, but I don't expect them to actually change anything significant on the chassis for the next model.
Because they would prefer to channel their current surplus to students, and then do a wave of releases to people with more money available?I’m a college student who currently has no laptop and will need one before September. If it's a CPU/GPU bump and some other minor tweaks then that's what makes the most sense. Even if they were to fix the keyboard and drop the bezels, that's still not enough to justify much talk about it on stage. An analyst at Forbes thinks that the new Macs will be released via press release and updates to the product page, in order to not take away attention from new iPhones. https://www.forbes.com/sites/ewansp...mark-specs-release-date-surface/#32d829085003
Heey, my magic 6-sided die, work for me now. Will they release on Tuesday, show me 1-6 if yes, and anything else for no.Hey guys! My Magic 8-Ball has been telling me a positive new 2018 MacBook/Pro's this Tuesday eight times in a row!!! That's gotta be something, right?

You might want to take that 8-ball to a repair shop...

I’ll take Monday too.I think Monday or Tuesday.
I’ll take Monday too.![]()
Currently about half and half for a Tuesday release.Uhmm...no way...it's been my reliable 8-Ball for years now. What does your generic6-sided die say?
If they roll out new models during the summer, it will be a silent update, I think if we see a autumn release, it would be a media event. An analyst at Forbes thinks that the new Macs will be released via press release and updates to the product page, in order to not take away attention from new iPhones. https://www.forbes.com/sites/ewansp...mark-specs-release-date-surface/#32d829085003
A college student that doesn't own a laptop? Nope you are a rare breedI’m a college student who currently has no laptop and will need one before September. There’s probably a lot of people like me, so I don’t really understand why they would wait until October.
Absolutely disappointed with Apple. I've waited long enough with the money in my pocket. I really need a new laptop before September but obviously I am not going to buy a laptop with a faulty keyboard. I'll wait a couple of weeks and if they don't release the new MBP I'll definitely go for a Dell XPS.
I know at least 5 people in the same situation than me. That's only around 7K $ less for Apple, but empires fall little by little, following a flow of many individual actions like these.
I don't remember what he said about Monday. I think he said something like either Apple usually releases new products for back to school on Monday or the day after Monday. If they don't announce anything descent by Tuesday, I will probably get a Windows laptop. It is really a pain to carry so many things with a 3kg laptop each day.
When looking at the competition, it seems like Apple could make the MacBook Pro thinner and lighter...
Enough with this madness....you should buy a Macbook.
You really feel that the rMBP is too thick and heavy? (no sarcasm, genuine interest)I absolutely need at least the performance of an Core i5-8250U with its four cores to get any work done. Am I really asking too much for when I want a notebook with a CPU of this class in a chassis as portable as the current XPS 13?

I don't really care about the thickness (though it's impressive just how thin the XPS is compared to the MBP), but I'm thankful for every gram of weight I can save. I want to bring the MacBook Pro with me on assignments, and I prefer to use a shoulder bag since I need to have quick access to some stuff in the bag.
This often means that I have a bag over one shoulder for five plus hours without pause. While I already tried to make it as light as possible, it still weighs about 4 kg without a notebook - and that can already hurt pretty badly after multiple hours. If Apple could shave off a couple hundred grams from the 13" MacBook Pro, I'd be thankful for sure.
