I can't imagine how much this thread will blow up if they couldn't get the thermals right and release with dual/quad cores instead of quad/hex cores.

I don’t think there even are dual core 8th gens are there? Certainly not in the usual core i5/i7 U/H chips Apple use. The G chips with the AMD iGPU are a possibility for at least one model of 15” though and those are basically an i7-7700HQ with the GPU bolted on.

Based on other laptops I investigated and tried out, I will say that Apple has done a great job with the thermals.

Did you come to a conclusion regarding the Razerblade - pro's/con's?? Are you keeping it or returning it and seeing what comes out later this year?

Thanks
I returned the Razer blade, to buy me more time. That is, I felt I'd have some serious buyers remorse if I kept the razer blade beyond the 14 day return period and Apple released a new MBP that checks off all the boxes I have on my list.

As for the razer blade it was a great machine, but not perfect. The feel of the keyboard is so much better then the MBP, but the lighting was a bit odd. The secondary key values for the f-keys and number keys were not backlit so typing in a dim room, you couldn't tell which key was the & or fn-fkey for volume. The palm rejection wasn't the best, which is why I asked here in a number of threads about Apple's palm rejection.

As for the good, the screen is gorgeous, butterytsmooth with 144Hz refresh rate, and being matte was a dream come true, I forgot out much of a joy it was to work on a matte display. The performance was desktop level in a mobile form factor. That comes at a price, and that's heat, but the Razer did a great job and while it got toasty, it never throttled. I was also able to undervolt and set windows to go into battey saver mode which helped greatly with the heat and battery.

I prefer macOS, and since I'm well enmeshed in the apple ecosystem, I'd prefer a MBP, but if they don't update the keyboard, I'll more then likely order the razer again.

There is actually alot going on with other companies also. MS releasing a new Surface, Dell have a 15% off sale (at least where I am), possibly more going on

Although I think an update today is just wishful thinking, I think it’ll definitely happen either this month or next.

You know I'm just looking at the current pricing on 15" models. Unless there is a non-touch bar 15" at a significant discount I don't think I'll be buying. There is just so much better value on offer elsewhere

But not in the Apple ecosphere. If you are fine leaving Mac OS then maybe.

Well I'm not really fine with it but this is the reality right this minute:

15" MBP with 16GB quad core and 1TB drive = € 3,619
15" Dell XPS with 32GB hex core and 1TB drive and 4k screen = € 2,598 - 15% = € 2,208

There is just no contest at those prices - I could buy the Dell XPS 15" AND a Dell XPS 13" for the less than the MBP
