For the form factor yes, for performance orientated notebooks no. My hex core GL703GS is lucky to exceed 70C under a maximum 100% 45W load. Apple places the user experience over practicalities such as cooling, likely as the majority of it's user's don't push the hardware.
I don't know what qualifies as "pushing the hardware", but the fans on my MBP go into turbo mode every time I look at StreetView or watch a 1080p YouTube video.
I'm tired of what I consider to be basic tasks overheating my computer. And it's a laptop problem specifically. Doing those things on my iPad doesn't faze it! The MBP is in that "sweet spot" of not having the efficiency of an iPad and not having the power of an iMac. This is part of the reason I'm considering an iMac (or possibly a modular MacPro) as my next computer.
