Don't know,i suppose i'll have to pull the trig and buy an entry noTB 13 MacBook Pro then next Spring i could still sell it for a shiny 13 Quad core with 32 GB...

I'm in the same boat, I think I'll do the same: buy an entry nTB now and sell it when nTB Ice Lake MBP are released, probably on 2019... My doubt is wether buy the 256/8 or the 256/16 configuration...

Maybe the 8 GB of RAM will do for this 2 years. There's also the possibility of the nTB MacBook Pro not being updated anytime soon, or even being discontinued. In that case, I'd be glad purchasing the 16GB for only 220€ more.

So how long till we see faceID in a macbook pro. It makes so much sense but I don't see them doing it for a while if ever unfortunately. The fact that 1080p cameras are still missing from the macbook pro still pisses me off. Video calls are becoming more and more common in today's work force. In a professional setting I'd much rather use a macbook for video calls then a tiny Iphone.

Maybe they were holding the camera quality back due to face id?

I thought the camera was ****** cause there's no space remaining in the screen to house a good one.
The bezels are as thin as possible - some screens even crack on light tension due to lack of strength- so they need either a new chassis or a new camera

I feel like if they ipad can get a decent front facing camera then why can't the mac book pro. I'd take an extra .2 pounds for thicker screen with a decent camera. I'm tired of IOS getting all the love all the time. Sure the Iphone is the bread winner but how about showing some love to the creatives and engineers who make the apps, movies, and music that make the ecosystem what it is. *Rant*

Seriously though faceid in MacOs, make it happen apple.

FaceID and OLED HDR Super Retina (or whatever they call it) with ProMotion in a non-TB 13.3 MacBook Pro would be heaven for me! Like I would drop full price for that kind of heaven!

With quad core and discrete graphics :D:eek:

But doubt that'll happen for a long time :(

I'm getting to the point that I need to upgrade my 2012 MacBook Pro. Like many others I'm holding out hope that Apple will stop the obsession with thinness and add ports and functionality back to the MacBook Pro. I'm not sure I can see Apple basically admitting a mistake and updating the line any time soon.

I have a 2012 Macbook Pro as well and am deciding when to purchase the new one with the touch bar. The free headphones ends sept 25 so I may purchase now rather than waiting.

AMD GPUs in Ryzen Mobile APUs are much faster than Iris Pro. Given that Apple uses AMD dGPUs, could we see Ryzen based MBPs? :)
Not a bad point.

As for me, 32Gb, not sure what cpu (what about a Xeon or a even Threadripper?), anti-glare screen (not sure about the 120Hz thing) & nVidia gpu (definitely not happening if they use Ryzen as cpu) - Mostly processing power as you see.

I'm oriented to think that it will also feature facial ID recognition and replace the fingertip sensor. Not sure if they are implementing keyboard once again. Maybe they'll do something for external gpu processing power.
Wireless recharging perhaps?

Ok, news for everyone:

A recent, trustable leak points to a major delay of cannonlake until end of 2018. It seems like Intel is having real, severe difficulties with the 10nm process.

So I'm definitely going to purchase now my Kaby Lake non touchbar 13" MBP before the Beats promo ends.

It seems we are going to wait a long, non determined amount of time before the 10nm four cores arrive to the 13" MacBook Pro.

MBPs will be on 14nm Coffee Lake or Kaby lake refresh, so wouldn’t be affected by this...

They are totally affected. I mean I don't know you, but I'm not interested in another 14nm MacBook pro with 4 cores, a very low frequency, and much worse GPU on a very hot 15W die.

What a lot of us are expecting for next nTB MacBook Pro is a new process node, more headroom for four core and GT3e GPU at a decent frequency, and that's not gonna happen with another 14nm CPU.

The great leap we are expecting in this thread will come with cannonlake or Ice Lake, along with more power efficient LPDDR4 and up to 32GB of RAM. I don't need 32GB but a lot of people are expecting new MacBook pros with this feature.

That leak means that Intel is facing serious problems in order to manufacture the new generation of 10nm CPUs, and it is uncertain when this new generation will come out.

Be that as it may, certainly for the 15” models it was always going to be 14nm Coffee Lake, the 13” was a little more uncertain to begin with, but now seems to be KBL refresh. The only model that was definitely meant to move to 10nm with cannon lake was the 12” MacBook on the 4.5W Y series chips.

Personally I’m waiting for Ice Lake, unless Apple creates a config that makes sense to me in the meantime, I mainly want better battery in the 15”, if they can hit 12h or more solid usage at 50% brightness surfing over WiFi, writing in pages or other similar tasks I’ll be very satisfied, whether it’s using Ice Lake, Coffee Lake or whatever.

I’m also fully expecting the low end 15” slot to move down to a 28W quad core cpu with iris/plus graphics (as intel have moved away from offering 47W chips with iris pro). I’m fine with that. I expect performance will be on a par with/ better than the 2015 igpu model with better battery life and much cooler. Moreso if they keep the existing cooling system set up to cool a 45W cpu and discrete GPU!

Its been 6 months that i sold my mid-2012 retina and regret it deeply :( now i have to bite the bullet for a mid-2017 waiting for a proper “pro” to come out

Probably wouldnt have to blame apple or intel, just me
