LOL!

Who thinks of concepts like these? No concept of usability (try writing on that giant touch screen without hitting the keys).

Yeah I thought the same when watching it. The screen looks nice tho.
RE: Touch Bar - I modified mine with BetterTouchTool so its only purpose is currently monitoring and showing information.
For example I gather statistics from within an Apple Script which is calling a Webservice and returns information which I then show on the Touch Bar and for this purpose I really love it. You can also just show upcoming events from your calendar or fetch the number of plays of a youTube video etc. Apple should really integrate a more sophisticated solution within MacOS to customize it.

edit: and I recommend the tool "Haptic Touch Bar" which triggers a click on the trackpad whenever you touch a Touch Bar button - it really does wonders in my opinion.

Do we have any guesses on the release for Intel's Sunny Cove? Are they doing the low power variants first again? I'm wondering if the high power ones will slip into next year.

I'm sitting on my MB Pro early 2015 13 inch. Last one with the nice mushy keyboard and all the ports.

The ports I can do without, I guess. I can live with that. But not the keyboard. As others have mentioned, Apple's obsession with lighter and thinner has gone too far here.

Just give us a better keyboard. Add weight. Size. Whatever, they are alright pretty damned light and thin. Our hands are in constant contact with the touch pad and keyboard. This was not an area where there should be compromise!

Apple, figure it out. About to lose a lifelong member if they don't figure it out with 2019 MB Pro. Want to upgrade, as mine is pretty heavy in comparison to the new ones. But refuse to move until they give us a proper keyboard, and the lining underneath in the newest model still doesn't cut it.

I also have the Early 2015 13 inch and find it a pretty good weight and size. I even have a protective sleeve over it. The only nit pick I could find is that the bezels are just too much. They really need to go back to the 2012-2015 chassis with the current display, restore mag safe, SD card (tired of reading and watching complaints from professional video editors and photographers needing this - even amature YouTubers). USB C for all its complaints is a reasonable trade off and I don't see a huge desire to still have USB A around. Its the industry thats dragging its feet and Apple itself (the iPhone is still using its own proprietary connection).

I’m refusing to buy one for reliability reasons alone.

Double shame that Apple drove up pricing in the whole market and then kept upwards to continue to differentiate themselves.

Now, you have extreme pricing and high failure rates. I wouldn’t pay for that even if it was cheap.

What I've seen looks like low power first for Sunny Cove(no mention of whether it'll be ~5w chips, 15w chips or both). I wouldn't expect the 45w versions until next summer at the earliest, due to the 9th Generation (but still 14nm) 45w chips this summer. I don't think Intel would bother with a significant update like a core count bump if they were going to release 10nm chips a few months later?

I have a 2015 13” and love it too. I tend to agree with most of your post, except the last part.

Apple released a device with USB-C, and now we have plenty of options for USB-C peripherals don’t we? Isn’t it the user base who are slow to adopt USB-C, not the industry? Maybe I’m wrong, as I said, I still use a 2015 too, but at a glance there are plenty of USB-C devices coming onto the market it seems.

I do agree that Apple’s adoption has been messy though.

I use SD cards in may camera but I wouldn’t miss it. Using a card reader is no big deal. I also won’t miss MagSafe. I don’t dislike it but it has no value to me. Being able to charge my MacBook using an industry standard USB port had far more value to me. Not even once have I accidentally yanked the MagSafe cable. So it’s just a super expensive charging cable I’d have to replace if it fails.

I've never seen a usb Cable wireless receiver, mouse, nor usb C sticks yet

We are pretty sure they are doing low power first. There is some concern on here that the high power ones are not actually ready.

Edit: lol

That's because most wireless equipment uses BlueTooth nowadays, which is standard in just about any hardware. As for USB-C sticks, they're available from 16GB (€4) up to 2TB (€1216) on many price compare sites.

Yep, it's the user base that's slow to adopt USB-C :) (which is understandable... I am also using the USB sticks that I have, which all have USB-A connectors)

Hey Community,

Heres a poll - when do you want to see new MBPs. Spring is highly unlikely but Apple has been know to surprise us. Many want summer but others are saying the intel chips wont be ready for summer and Fall is the answer.

Go vote.

Cheers

I'd love to see them this spring - or they could just talk about them. But I'm pretty sure that they won't do that. I would have expected more leaks if they're coming out in two weeks. I really hope that they are not fall - usually that means October or November. I have no plans to buy a new MacBook Pro.

But I can change my mind really fast.

I could be wrong, but the next gen CPUs are not due out from Intel until the summer, so I think we are on the hook for those.

Summer as a baseline (would assume around July again) - unless there’s a delay related to the new 16 inch model(s) in which case it might be October again.

does this still mean WWDC is feasible ?

hahaha that was purely optimistic.. but as i said apple could surprise us.. May maybe?

or like you said they could give us a heads up that they will be out in June.

i dont think its a long shot saying that the 16 MBP is one of the most anticipated products of the year next to the Mac Pro

I'd guess late fall, either alongside Mac Pro or as a press release with minor spec bumps. I expect minor improvements over gen 3 switches.

Well not before July when the last ones were released. I do not expect a redesign, just a spec bump. They might make some under-the-hood changes for reliability but they won't advertise that so don't expect a redesigned keyboard or anything like that.

The most important improvement will be reliability. I am sure a lot of people will be fine with just an reliable model that can last 5+ years with the computing capabilities within today's ballpark. What is the point of waiting for the next CPU if that's going to throttle anyway...

Not a fan of Apple first iterations. If it's not the keyboard, it'll be something else.
[doublepost=1552528787][/doublepost]Granted, I'm still taking a chance on a 2018 pro
